Saturday 19th May 2024 • Loss this week 2.2lb. • Total loss since WLS: 1 Stone 5.5lb. • 2 Stone 4.6lb lost since LRD. • Well, I mean, a loss is a loss is a loss…however a lot less than I would have wanted, think I need to be getting more protein in but I won’t lie as much as I welcome puree stage after 4 weeks of liquid I quickly went off of it’s texture. It’s been hard to get the amount of protein in I need with the small portions I can stomach at a time. Today I hit the lowest weight of my adult life. I was a literal child the last time I would have been this weight. 146.3! I took my last shot of Zepbound/Mounjaro last Saturday, and I am set to start the compounded Semaglutide this weekend (if I can manage the insulin syringe! 😬) I'm hoping that the exhaustion and depression that seem to have come along with the Tirzepatide lift soon, but overall I am so glad I did this. Bariatric #protip! I am sick to death of protein shakes and jello. The broth from the store that I have tried is 🤢. Enter Pho broth from our favorite Vietnamese restaurant! I had my husband soak the solids in it (meat, basil, mint, etc…) for flavor and then strain off the solids (which he happily ate 😆) This broth *almost* tricks my brain into thinking I’m enjoying a meal. Total game changer! In other news, I am 5 lbs down since my pre-op weigh in. 22 lbs down since starting the pre-op liquid diet (3/14). 30 lbs down from my highest weight. I did it! I officially joined the losers’ bench yesterday!!! It’s been a pretty miserable recovery so far with stomach cramping and overall tenderness. Yesterday, I hit 149 pounds, which I haven't seen since 2018! I've felt exhausted and shitty lately, so I haven't exactly gotten to enjoy my weight loss, but it's okay. That time is coming. Tirzepatide is rough on me, but it was exactly what I needed. I'll be taking 2 more doses of 5 mg. Zepbound (the 7.5 incapacitated me for several days,) and then I'll be switching over to compounded semaglutide for maintenance. I still have 4 more pounds to lose, but I can't wait to get my blood work done and see how my cholesterol looks now. A LOT of people in my family (both sides) have died from high cholesterol/BP related issues, and I'm determined to not allow that to happen to me. I know that sometimes my battle seems superficial because I care about how I look now, but that is a new thing for me that I definitely don't hate. But it's also a small part of why I fight so hard. I know my genetics are already stacked against me, and I really just don't want to be sick and/or die like so many of my family have. #nofilter #noedits
Pre-op liquid diet day 5! I have been losing a TON of retained water. I got home from NYC and after 8 days of luxurious eating, almost 200,000 steps, and sitting on airplanes for hours and hours, I was really carrying a lot of extra water weight. I can tell my inflammation is going down and it feels great! Thanks to ditching the water weight I’ve lost 12 lbs in 8 days! Obviously this is NOT a healthy way to lose weight long-term. The purpose is to shrink the liver as much as possible so the surgery goes easier. But I’m glad for the head start! I could lie and say this is easy. But I’m just keeping it real here. So I’ll be honest. The cravings so far have been awful. I have never used drugs or alcohol but I imagine this is kind of what detoxing would be like. It’s weird because I haven’t actually been hungry at all. It’s just craving the food that’s the problem. But! With doughnuts. 😆🤦🏻♀️ Sometimes I look at pictures like the one here (from Sept 2017) and beat myself up. Why couldn’t I just keep going on that (restrictive, calorie counting, compulsive exercising) lifestyle? Why couldn’t I keep it together (after my Mom died and my thyroid imploded)? Why couldn’t I? Notice a pattern here? No grace given. I have a history of not giving myself compassion. THAT is going to be the biggest difference this time. You see a skinnier me in this picture. I had lost 70 lbs at this point and was able to fit into my wedding dress. Physically I felt healthier than I had in many years. BUT! Mentally and emotionally I was all over the place. I’ve done a lot of work internally since then. I refuse to bully myself into submission and it’s not primarily about what I look like. This time. It’s about grace. It’s about a healthy mind, a healthy spirit, and a healthy body. It’s about kindness and compassion. This is me standing up and admitting I cannot do this on my own. This time I’m being vulnerable and courageous enough to admit that I need help. I need tools on this journey. And this time- I’m going to get there. This liquid diet is so not favorite. I'm so sorry I've been so quiet, but I've been exhausted still. I haven't been able to do much other than work, but I'm now down 22 pounds since the new year, and it has been a wild ride. I've switched over to Zepbound because it's what I should have been on in the first place, and I'm boosting to 7.5 mg tomorrow. Other than the exhaustion, it is absolutely magical. Photo #2 is a jar of my favorite peanut butter that has been sitting in the cabinet UNOPENED for the last 2.5 months. Peanut butter is probably my favorite food of all time- to the point where if we had it in the house, I would ask my partner to hide it from me. The "food noise" truly is gone, and I have the metabolism of a normal person for the first time probably in my life. 25 pounds was my initial goal, but I'm going for 30 now just because I can. I can't stay on this stuff forever because it makes me too tired, but I'm considering a low dose of compounded semaglutide instead, because I don't want to go back to struggling how I used to. The lack of food stress is life-changing in a way that I can't even explain unless you have it and can even imagine life without it. 7 pounds to go!
I just got home from an amazing trip to NYC for the #internationalbeautyshow and then sight seeing with my baby sis. I’m proud that I didn’t let my size hold me back. I've been pretty quiet on here, just a lot going on. I got a new job after being at the same place for over 9 years, which I did for ME! I feel like it was the final piece of the puzzle (besides moving South where there is no snow...but that'll happen in time) to make so I have every chance of happiness in all aspects of everything! My job was so stressful and I just felt, like my FAVORITE saying goes, that I was "ice-skating uphill" (from the movie Blade). . With all the stress but joy of changing jobs, I have slacked on eating right, staying hydrated, getting enough protein, and drinking proffees instead of snacking. A few pounds have come back on...not enough to freak out about, but I am a little. BUT.... . I am back, baby! I started my new (fully remote) job this past Monday and week 1 was awesome! I go to the HQ tomorrow for the week (near Chicago), which means I have to fly - NOT my favorite thing. But I'm excited to meet everyone and kick ass! . My wonderful husband also got me an exercise bike so that when I need a break from staring at spreadsheets that I can go for a quick 15 minute ride a few times a day. I did one ride this week and it kicked my ass, so I have a long way to go! I got my stand up desk so I'm not on my ass all week, and I'm so excited to rock it! . So this week is a bit of the unknown. Because of that, I refuse to beat myself up, and to instead focus on the best I can with eating while I'm there, and then shifting back to my health as the priority when I get back! Sorry for the delay in posting, but I just haven't felt like it. My back pain is improving, but it still worsens the moment I do much of anything (yesterday it was laundry and litter box cleaning.) I've also had pretty severe nausea since the 5mg boost and have vomited twice, and I've been kind of just waiting to break through my plateau. Part of me was scared that the medication had just stopped working and I'd have to go back to starving myself to lose, but no... I got on the scale this morning and I'm at 160! That's 15 pounds down! Not having ANY food noise for the first time in my life has been UNREAL. I'd love to stay on this med permanently (as long as the side effects subside,) but $650 a month ($550 for the drug and $100 for the Sequence app) is pretty crazy, and I worry about the potential long-term effects it could have. Having a "normal" metabolism for the first time in a VERY long time is also pretty unreal. For now, I'm focusing on staying hydrated and getting protein (@bobateaprotein is THE BEST protein powder I've ever tried- it's soo close to having a real bubble tea!) 10 pounds to go! 🎉

Okay, so I've been in too much pain to make a TikTok (I have a bulging/herniated disc in my lower back,) but I wanted to do another update because this is so crazy. Week 3 is ending tomorrow, and I'm now down 12 POUNDS. I have been able to increase my calorie intake to OVER 1200 and still lose (honestly, some days I haven't even kept track,) so it's safe to say that the Mounjaro has boosted my metabolism pretty significantly. Because the side effects have been pretty minimal, I've decided to go up to 5 mg. next month. Unfortunately, I also discovered that the price (with commercial insurance without coverage for weight loss drugs plus the manufacturer's discount card,) went up from $450 to $550. But that's okay, because it's worth every penny if it gets me back to a healthy weight! I've lost more in 2.5 weeks than I did on MONTHS of keto, so it honestly feels like magic to me. This year has been a rollercoaster for so many reasons, but this decision that I made for myself, my health, and my family, is by far the best decision in the past 365 days! . I am grateful to have found an amazing surgeon in @dr.vadimmeytes and to have someone like my sister @klalibra to be motivated by and to ask COUNTLESS questions! . By far, proffee is the best new thing I have found during this year, though things like the famous ricotta bake, protein bagels and muffins, and some other new things have saved me from always having boring meals! . I still struggle....with self image, with motivation, with exercise (or lack there of!), with extra skin, with slider foods, and the damn hair loss that won’t seem to really grow back! But all of these struggles don’t take away from all that I have learned - about myself, this process, this community, other people (and their opinions), and my family. . What a year...here’s to hitting my goal weight soon and being in maintenance. I lost another pound today. So I'm down 6 pounds in the 5 days I've been on #mounjaro. 😳 I have been doing the same calorie tracking and intake I was doing previously, but this has clearly changed something in my body. I am beyond grateful that I have the means to pay for this out of pocket. It's criminal that insurance companies are excluding these drugs specifically but are still covering bariatric surgery. 😞
It has been 4 days since I took my first #mounjaro injection, and I'm down 5 POUNDS. Finally, I'm not having to starve myself to see results. I feel so validated in thinking there was something wrong with me. I've always dealt with people telling me I "just" need to do this or that- "just work out," "just cut out sugar," "just eat less," "NO, JUST EAT MORE! YOU'RE IN STARVATION MODE!" I can't tell you how sick I am of explaining myself and how hard I try. Or how scared I am of watching my health slip away again in spite of my best efforts. I know it's too early to know if this is going to work for real, but I feel like it's going to. I feel in control of my diet and health, and I don't even have the words to describe how life-changing it has been so far. Note: the side effects did start yesterday, and I now have some nausea and diarrhea, but it's nothing Immodium can't fix. Sorry if that's TMI, but I want to be fully transparent here. This is a medication that is rarely without side effects (at least while titrating,) but so far they have been worth it for me.
I finally hit my century walk with @onepeloton yesterday. I’ve had other achievements and done other forms of exercise but I’m proud of this one. I never thought I would be a Peloton person but it’s been instrumental for me in this journey. Happy New Year! It has been less than 48 hours since I took my first #mounjaro injection, and I've lost almost 3 pounds! I haven't been tracking or trying to restrict calories until today, so I'm excited to see where this goes! What they say about removing the ever present "food noise" is so far VERY REAL for me, and it's incredible. I don't have any side effects at all so far, and I'm generally just so glad I decided to do this. 22 pounds to go! 💪🎆

Two weeks and $460 later, I *finally* have this in hand! I'm not expecting a miracle, but if it can help me lose weight without having to eat<800 calories a day, it'll be worth it. Well, my insurance denied my PA for Zepbound, because it turns out they don't cover ANY weight loss drugs (I got excited when I saw it on the formulary and didn't think the "weight loss plan" exclusion would include drugs- I thought it meant like, Weight Watchers fees.) So I'll be paying out of pocket for it (or Mounjaro depending on availability.) I have high cholesterol AND high blood pressure now, and my doc believes that losing 25 pounds would resolve both. I've put so much effort into it with no results that I'm ready to give in to another "extreme" option... especially since that is what VSG was considered, and it WORKED. I've gained, but nowhere near the 115 pounds I lost! Some of us just need the extreme option, I guess!
Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals! After my weight didn't budge while calorie counting and going to the gym almost daily, I gave up. I hurt my back/pinched my sciatic nerve AND tweaked my knee probably because I was trying not to put weight on my broken toe. Admittedly, I said FUCK THIS and gave up. I feel terrible emotionally and physically. I'm watching my weight rise and my health decline again, and I feel so incredibly helpless to it. I don't want to have to obsess over this shit. I just want to live my damn life and be happy and healthy, and I don't understand why that never works for me. So after hearing it from multiple people who were in the same post-WLS regain cycle as me, I've decided to give GLP-1 therapy a try. I've been going back and forth with the doc this week about whether or not my insurance will cover it, because my BMI is barely over 27 and my comorbidities (cholesterol, BP) are "only borderline high" now. You know, stuff that was normal when I was 25 pounds lighter. It brings me to tears thinking that I have to get back into such bad shape just for them to consider this treatable... I obviously have a problem and always have! Anyhow, I had settled on paying out of pocket for Zepbound ($550 a month) if I had to because I cannot put a price on my health, but today I heard back and my doc is submitting a prior auth to my insurance because my BP is actually high enough as far as she is concerned! I'm fully expecting to have to appeal a rejection because all health insurance sucks, but that is still a step in the right direction. A little battle won. And yes, I'm terrified of the side effects of this stuff and don't want to take it any more than I wanted to have 80% of my stomach surgically removed. But I will never resist using tools that are available to me or be ashamed of needing them. VSG changed my life and I'll never regret doing it. It gave me a fighting chance, and this still isn't a fight I intend to lose. 💪
I’m 8 months post op and am down 116 lbs. Part of me doesn’t recognize that girl from 8 months ago and at the same time, part of me can’t see the person I am now. Feeling extra grateful and blessed this Thanksgiving knowing I took a chance on myself. 2 years ago on 11/23 I started my 2 week pre-op liquid diet.
