The Beautiful Loch Lomond just north of Glasgow, Scotland. Hard to believe it’s just a few miles outside of a major European city. Typically we had sun and snow. While heading up the east coast we went inland for a couple of nights at St Marys so we could visit Ben Lomond National Park. After another beautiful drive through regional Tasmania we arrived at Jacobs Ladder. This narrow hairpin road was taken very slowly as there are no guard rails in a lot of places. Once you get to the top you arrive in another world, the vegetation and landscape has totally changed. There is a small ski resort (only 2 in Tasmania) and a short walk to the summit which is the second highest in Tasmania. It was 9 degrees in the ski resort carpark but the temperature dropped dramatically by the time I reached the summit, the wind was very strong, but you felt very alive. This national park was a pleasant surprise. We’d heard Jacob’s Ladder was a must do and we certainly agree. Amazing scenery of this alpine area as the road climbed in altitude. It was an early start from Myrtle Park as our friends had planned a fully day of adventuring, starting with an ascent of Jacobs Ladder in Ben Lomond National Park. Jacobs Ladder is a winding, dirt road up to the Ski Resort. A large group of cyclists were also doing the ascent. We admired their tenacity in getting up the steep, uneven road. My massive adventure day ended with some wine on the balcony as the fog rolled into the Ben Lomond Village. We started the day hiking up Legges Tor, Tasmania's second highest mountain, and instead of hiking back down we rode down the steep and intimidating Jacob's Ladder gravel road. Once safe back at our lodge we took the Surprise Vale walk which was both boggy and scratchy but full of amazing vegetation and wallabies. Ben Lomond National Park, Tassie Ben Lomond in winter is covered with snow. So it was really good to see it without snow…and it definitely did not disappoint. In winter you can ski or go bob sledding. They have chalets and huts you can stay in too, which is our plan for this winter! ❄️ When there is no snow there are walking tracks you can do…which we will go back and do for sure! Definitely a bucket list to do!
