A runtime of two hours with an R rating. This is available to rent on Prime Video. "Blade,” played by Wesley Snipes, is half vampire and half human. His mother, "Vanessa,” played by Sanaa Lathan, was bitten when she was pregnant with him. Growing up, he was taken in and raised by a vampire hunter named "Whistler,” played by Kris Kristofferson. “Blade” has all the perks of a vampire, but he unfortunately also has the urge to drink blood, and he ages like a human. Together, “Whistler” and him make a powerful team, taking down vampires. In the first film, they get an ally from a hematologist named "Karen,” played by N'Bushe Wright. She uses her knowledge of blood& all things Sickle Cell Anemia to help out. They fight against a young, power-hungry vampire named “Deacon Frost,” played by Stephen Dorff. Along with his crew of vampires, "Quinn,” played by Donal Logue, and "Mercury,” played by Arly Jover,. In the second film, the main villain was "Nomak,” played by Luke Goss. He was a crossbreed of a vampire and something else. "Blade," "Whistler," and his understudy, you could say in "Scud,” played by Norman Reedus, allied with the vampires to take out these hybrid vampires. In the third film, the vampires got someone to take care of their “Day Walker” problem, "Dracula,” played by Dominic Purcell. “Blade” got new allies forced on him. This vampire killing unit called the "NightStalkers,” consists of "Sommerfield,” played by Natasha Lyonne, “Hannibal King,” played by Ryan Reynolds, and “Abigail Whistler,” played by Jessica Biel, to name a few. This was the last film in the “Blade” trilogy. “Blade” (the trilogy) started flawlessly, then toward the end got a little shaky. I loved the first film. The second film was full of action, with “Blade” setting in his badass persona. By the third film, they were kind of making fun of his persona. To be completely honest, I do not remember much about this job. Wesley Snipes was super hot for a minute or two when this project came in-house. While thumbing through the photography, I noticed a shot where Snipes was pulling down his lip to reveal his marking of being a hybrid. Although you can’t see his face, every other art director/creative director found this shot too ... and presented comps featuring it at one of our critiques. You can only show so many similar comps before the client thinks they all look the same and won’t approve any. Before the presentation was sent, I went back to my deck and inverted the image so it would appear more medical, kinda like an X-ray, and extended his vampire teeth. It may have starred Wesley Snipes but comic adaptations were lost causes and generally regarded as weak sauce at the time. Surprising everyone, the film impressed most critic and, most crucially, it made money at the box office. This ensured a sequel would follow and in 2002 we got Blade II as directed by Guillermo Del Toro. While the sequel can’t hold a light to its predecessor, it’s still a fun watch as vampires and like explode all over the place. While hunting for his friend/mentor Whistler (Kristofferson) in Prague, Blade (Snipes), a half-human/half-vampire hybrid termed a “Daywalker”, comes across a new breed of blood suckers. The baddies are called Reapers and they are nasty scamps who are feasting on vampires and turning them into mindless, inconsiderate monsters. Knowing humanity will be their next victim once they’re done devouring the suckheads, Blade partners with a crack team originally assembled to hunt him down. Together they have to find the Reaper boss and kill him before he and his kind consume the world. Guillermo Del Toro is a talented director whose work I admire. He does well with this film, infusing a bit more style and panache over the first movie. The only real issue I have with it is there isn’t much movement forward. At the end Blade is still Blade doing Blade things and we are mentally prepping for Blade Trinity (we’ll talk about that shiny turd later). Blade II - Blu-ray Blade 2 (Blade II) est un film américano-allemand réalisé par Guillermo Del Toro, sorti en 2002. Second volet de la franchise Blade, il fait suite au premier film de Stephen Norrington, sorti en 1998. Malgré des critiques mitigées (comme son prédécesseur), il connaît le succès commercial et dépasse les recettes du premier film. Le tournage s'est déroulé entre les Studios Barrandov de Prague, Londres, New York et Toronto. Prague a notamment été choisie, en dehors de l'attrait financier et pour l'aspect “technico-gothique” que souhaitait Guillermo del Toro. Les actions spécifiques du film ont nécessité la création d'une caméra pouvant suivre les acrobaties des acteurs et cascadeurs. La L-cam a donc été mise au point par l'équipe des effets visuels. Guillermo del Toro explique qu'elle pouvait suivre « un plan de Wesley Snipes qui court le long d'un corridor quatre étages au-dessus du sol, puis il fait un saut de 60 mètres et la caméra suit la balle qu'il tire à 20 mètres de lui ». Blade 2 est le film le plus lucratif de la trilogie, récoltant 80 millions de dollars aux États-Unis et 150 millions dans le monde. Entre 2002 et 2003, le film Blade 2 a été sélectionné 16 fois dans diverses catégories et a remporté 6 récompenses. I've already done a review for "Blade II" on my Letterboxd last year, but a few things stood out this morning when watching it again for the umpteenth time. For starters, the worldbuilding here is far superior than in the original film, with production designer Carol Spier crafting some locations and places that make the underbelly of vampirism stand out in a way it didn't in the first film. Secondly, Luke Goss as Nomak is one of the most underrated "villains" in a comic book movie, as he's more of an antagonist and a deeply sympathetic and tragic one. The true villain is Eli Kamaskinos, the creator of Frankenstein's monster in this film who uses the Bloodpack to destroy the beast he made out of his own son. Finally, the Whistler and Scud dynamic is done very well as even with you knowing the twist reveal of Norman Reedus's character, there's that uncertainty as to who to trust between the two men. Nothing like watching a blast from the past: Blade II. What makes Blade II the better movie in the Blade trilogy is having Guillermo del Toro at the helm. The film is darker, grittier and gothic than its predecessor. The action sequences are crisp, Marco Beltrami’s score takes Blade II to new heights as well as the soundtrack, and the effects, practical and digital, are top notch. Plus, Wesley Snipes gives it his all for the sequel, and the supporting cast of rich characters helps make this Blade film more memorable than its predecessor and, to an extent, Blade: Trinity. Blade II / Spider-Man (2002) ... FX BY YEAR — Chapter Eight ... I went to a Doctor Who Christmas party over the weekend and it threw my Who stride a bit. Our regular Tuesday content will happen tomorrow or Thursday. In the meantime, 2002!!! Joining X-Men in rounding out an holy trinity of early oughties superhero flicks that put a big foot in the door for a new golden age of the sug-genre that grabbed the mainstream audience, here's Blade II and Spider-Man. A lot of bloody work by some pile of insanely talented people went into making Guillermo del Toro's Blade seqel hella memorable. The reaper FX were digital in places, this handled by Tippett Studio, who blended this into practical stuff already applied to the actors. The purely practical stuff, including an animatronic that could open its face, was handled by Steve Johnson and his illustrious team at XFX, including Lennie MacDonald and frequent Del Toro cohort Mike Elizalde. Vince Niebla designed and painted many of the reaper jobs and def painted the autopsy corpse. Barrie Gower was in on application too, I believe. Spider-Man was originally to have a practical animatronic mask for Green Goblin and one was made by Amalgamated Dynamics. A more normie-friendly flight suit and helmet were ultimately used instead. A shame it wasn't used but, again, this one opened a lot of mainstream doors by presenting more mainstream-palatable, more realistic versions of their comic counterparts. "Dopo il successo di #Hellboy e #BladeII, mi hanno offerto qualunque film di supereroi, che all’epoca stavano iniziando a prendere piede. Ci stavo pensando perché era molto allettante e mi sono detto: ‘Lo faccio o meglio un film più personale con un budget più basso? La scelta è poi caduta su #IlLabirintoDelFauno, in seguito a un curioso aneddoto: un giorno ho dimenticato il taccuino con tutte le mie idee in un taxi a Londra. Quando il tassista me l'ha restituito, ho capito che dovevo realizzare il progetto che mi stava a cuore. Durante le riprese anche la troupe pensava che io fossi un pazzo completo che urlava cose senza senso. After the original #Blade film, I was pretty excited for #BladeII, and I was not disappointed. I like the influences that Guillermo del Toro brought to the film. There was a lot more action in this movie, but it was all done well without being too repetitive. I did notice this film doesn’t consistently follow its own established rules, and the CGI was very hit-or-miss throughout. #BladeTrilogy #Blade2 #horror

#BladeII is one of the few sequels that’s better than the original. This had better baddies, better story and overall more fun. The action never lets up and we get what we loved about the first #blade and get that enhanced. Blade is enjoyable because it’s a good time without over complaining things. Big fan. Theme: Martial arts horror. Today: let's go Hollywood: the "Blade" trilogy. The original "Blade" movies, about a vampire slayer with vampire powers and great fight skills, are looked back on as the first hit movie adaptation of a Marvel character, with a sequel that was done by Guillermo Del Toro and featured Donnie Yen and Norman Reedus, and a third one with pre-"Deadpool" Ryan Reynolds and a look-at-my-midriff era Jessica Biel. The great Udo Kier and Ron Perlman also have roles as vampires. Often forgetten is that Wesley Snipes has a 5th dan black belt in karate and also studied capoeira and wushu, as well as dancing, prior to being a successful actor. His roles as a villain (Nino Brown!!) rarely allowed him to show off the extent of his skills, nor did his action movies such as "Passenger 57" (still one of the best "Die Hard" variants). But in the "Blade"movies he locks in dozens of great moves per most fight scenes. Also forgotten is that Marvel published Dracula horror comic books in the 70s, which eventually included Blade and other characters featured in his movies. These were very grounded in horror, rather than superheroics. "Blade" was not the first Hollywood horror comic book action movie to star a martial artist. It followed "The Crow" with Brandon Lee and "Spawn" with Michael Jai White. But neither had a chance to show off their fight skills in either (e.g. Lee mostly tackled and shoved opponents).
