I stand by it. A man can appear to “have it all” but if he doesn’t have awareness - and therefore control - of his breath then his experience of life will be compromised. I regularly have clients reporting that they’re not usually aware of their breath - or even that they can’t remember the last deep breath they took… Whenever we’re not breathing effectively we’re not feeling effectively and this can only lead to a build up of mental, physical and emotional tension. One of the most quickest and most effective ways to build this awareness is by spending 5 minutes (ideally in and out of the nose leading from the low belly) at the beginning of each day focusing on our breath. Much like activating a muscle - a practice like this gives us the best chance of remaining the master of our breath throughout the day. Do you have a Breathwork practice? Today I was out offering my Beltane prayers, giving thanks to all the places and spaces that have held me over two decades on the nature reserve where I live. I was in deep communion with my Ancestors. I offered mapacho (sacred tobacco) to the waters of the river, to the trees and the land. I then I made my prayers, clear prayers that my business (which I care greatly about) would guide me to calling in the right students and the right people, and to truly make what we offer be in service to us as Sacred Humans doing our best to walk in beauty in our lives. I am also learning more about the colonisation that is inherent in so many healing practices and I am eternally humbled. As I considered this and reflected deeply on it, my beautiful sister @yourdivineroots sent me a song as our work together weaves itself more deeply into a beautiful, ethical, heart centred tapestry. I sat down on a little wooden bench beside the river to listen to the song, and as I looked down at my feet, this emblem was sitting right there in the earth! I can’t begin to tell you how close it is to my original logo design, and if that’s not a message from Great Spirit that all is aligned, I don’t know what is! For All Our Relations 🦅

Der Ozean war mein erster Atemlehrer. Als Kinder haben meine Schwester und ich so lange Steine ins seichte Wasser geworfen und wieder aufgetaucht, bis uns die gefüllten Baguettes aus der Beachbar in Zakynthos wieder hochgekommen sind 😄 In Indoniesen kam die Liebe zum Surfen dazu. Was erstmal mit einer steilen Lernkurve begonnen hat, wurde ziemlich schnell ernüchternd. Sobald ich mich von den kleinen Wellen und dem gemütlichen Beach Break weggetraut habe, wurde mir ziemlich schnell klar, dass ich gegen die rohe Kraft des Meeres absolut machtlos bin. 🌊 Unzählige Male bin ich bei einem Wipe Out zu meinem (gefühlten) Maximum für Luftanhalten gelangt und habe richtig Angst bekommen. Zu viele Menschen im Line-up, Frustration, wenn mal wieder gar nichts klappt, riesige Sets, die wie aus dem Nichts kommen - beim Surfen ist das Nervensystem ständig gefragt. Mit einem Surf Survival Kurs wollte ich mir irgendwann die Angst nehmen und souveräner in großen Wellen werden. Alles drehte sich dabei um die Atmung: Wie nimmt man eigentlich einen vollen Atemzug? Wie viel Sauerstoff habe ich noch im Blut, wenn ich glaube, dass nichts mehr geht? Wie kann mentales Training dabei helfen, länger ohne Atmen auszukommen und gleichzeitig Sauerstoff zu sparen? Meine Atmung wurde mein Freund 🌬️ Ich war hooked und trainierte regelmäßig mit einer Gruppe für Apnoetauchen weiter. Jedes Mal mussten wir unsere mentalen Grenzen sprengen. Wenn man mit einem Gewicht am Boden eines Pools entlanggeht, sich zwischendurch abstößt und nur eine Sekunde Zeit hat Luft zu holen, bevor man wieder absinkt, lernt man Atmen erst richtig zu schätzen. Heute ist die Atmung das Zentrum meiner Arbeit. Als Fernbedienung für das Nervensystem. Als Helfer zur Selbstregulierung. Als mächtiges Tool, um aufgestaute Gefühle freizusetzen und Resilienz zu trainieren. Aus meinen Erfahrungen und Herausforderungen beim Surfen und Tauchen ist ein Workshop entstanden. In Breathwork für Surfer beschäftigen wir uns mit Atem- und Mentaltraining für das Meer und erkunden unser Nervensystem in der Atemmeditation. Wer sich im Meer unsicher fühlt oder einfach effektiver mit seiner Atmung umgehen möchte, ist hier genau richtig 💙

Diaphragmatic Breathing 1. Relax Your Body: * Close your eyes if it helps you relax. Release tension in your muscles, starting from your head and working down to your toes. Allow your shoulders to relax and let go of any tightness in your neck and jaw. 2. Place Your Hands on Your Abdomen: * Put one hand on your chest and the other hand on your abdomen, just below your rib cage. This will help you feel the movement of your diaphragm. 3. Inhale Slowly Through Your Nose: * Take a slow, deep breath in through your nose. Focus on filling your abdomen with air rather than your chest. You should feel your abdomen rise as you inhale, while your chest remains relatively still. 4. Expand Your Abdomen: * As you inhale, imagine filling up your belly like a balloon. Feel your hand on your abdomen rise as your diaphragm contracts downward, allowing your lungs to expand fully. 5. Exhale Slowly Through Your Mouth: * Slowly exhale through your mouth, allowing your abdomen to deflate. 🥶💦The Journey of an Ice Cold Plunge 🌬️We first begin with breathwork to ready the body and mind for what is about to be endured. Some may choose to warm the body through physical movements to gain focus and become present as they prepare for this time of physical stress. Others may meditate beforehand to strengthen the mind through presence and positive affirmations. 🏋🏽‍♂️🙏🏽Everyone's journey is different; some find release and surrender by making noises such as singing, sighing, or shrieking, while some are silenced by focus and the shock of the temperature change as they submerge their bodies into the icy water. Someone may laugh to ease the discomfort as they lower their body into this unknown space (ahem, Cristina). 🧘🏻‍♀️There is no right or wrong, everyone's experience is valid and what's important is gaining control of the breath once you're in and observing your own experience, whatever that means for you. 🙌🏻And there's nothing quite like accomplishing your goal! It can be confusing for new coaches and mentors to decide what tools are best suited for them. And let’s face it, not all coaches are meant to work with every single tool. Not all clients resonate with every single tool. Not all transformations will benefit from a particular tool. 🌱 But if we really bring it down to the basics, there’s three tools that every coach must have to support incredible transformations. 👉🏽A mentor. Don’t be a coach who doesn’t have a coach. Don’t be somebody who teaches who doesn’t learn from anybody else. There’s a beauty and art of having a mentor as you discover and establish your own voice within your field of budding expertise. Begin to align yourself with peoples’ work that resonate with you. 👉🏽Learn a somatic practice, like breathwork or movement. When dealing with transformations, you’re talking about energetic level reprogramming. Mindset work is one thing, but healing through the body and reprogramming yourself on a molecular level is another playground. Coaches, therapists, nurses, doulas, practitioners, and facilitators are all getting privy to the importance of somatic work. 👉🏽Have your own self-care practices ready to go. A chronic mistake many new coaches and mentors make when just starting out is that they don’t really think about taking care of themselves. Along the lines of points one and two, figure out whether or not you are setting yourself up with a proper support and self-care system. Do you have a guide, coach, mentor, trusted practitioner, or facilitator? There may be several people who hold a space for you. There may be people holding space for you at different times and different seasons. As you continue on your journey as a new coach and mentor, many things will change for you. Resümee… vielen Dank an diese Zeit.✨ Nachdem wir den vor letzten Samstagabend alle Studios um 21 Uhr geschlossen haben in #parchim zum Yoga & Healing Day, sind wir alle müde und beseelt ins Bett gefallen. Wir sind schnell mit voller Energie wieder in die Woche gestartet und sind bereits an den Vorbereitungen für unser nächstes Event Richtung Herbst. Wie das aussehen wird und wann es stattfinden wird, werdet ihr zeitig erfahren. Wir bedanken uns bei all unseren Kooperationspartner. Wir sind sehr dankbar, dass wir immer wieder so tolle Menschen begrüßen dürfen, die uns dabei unterstützen, Yoga & Heilung in diese Stadt und Umgebung noch sichtbarer zu machen und um Kollektiv zu erfahren, was dies mit uns Menschen macht. Here’s why holding your breath isn’t the answer for healthier lungs.. Holding your breath for improved lung capacity is a big misconception. Holding your breath for extended periods can actually damage your lung tissue. Here’s why: 1. Overinflation: When you hold your breath, air gets trapped in your lungs, stretching the alveoli (tiny air sacs) beyond their healthy capacity. This can lead to tears and damage in these delicate structures. 2. Reduced Oxygen Exchange: Holding your breath deprives your body of fresh oxygen and prevents the removal of carbon dioxide, a waste product. This can lead to dizziness, lightheadedness, and even fainting. 3. Increased Pressure: Holding your breath increases pressure in your chest cavity, which can put strain on your heart and diaphragm. 🚀LIFT OFF… 2024 Intuitive Breathwork Training started last night with an online welcome meeting and introduction. 14 beautiful souls are out of at the starting blocks… ready to learn and embody the rich tapestry of breath and body work. The wait is over, the birthing of a vague idea I had over 2 years ago, became manifest last night. I played with the notion of creating something big, something I kept being asked for by clients… the doubts, the facing of fears and the blocks all came rushing in. Hatte ich bereits erwähnt, dass ich sie - immer noch - liebe, die wunderschöne @villa.havelland.ketzin 🥰 So ein wunderbarer und heilsamer Ort, um zur Ruhe zu kommen, Yoga zu machen und zu geben und zu meditieren. Und seit Neustem auch mit dem Atem zu experimentieren und unter Anleitung von @ralph_skuban von der @skuban_akademie sich in die #buteyko Atempraxis hineinzuatmen … und nach viel Erfahrung und Übung die Praxis weitergeben zu können! Alldieweil, wer einfach „nur“ Yoga vor Ort machen möchte und gelöst ins Wochenende starten will, für den hab ich samstags von 9:30-10:30 Uhr immer ein Plätzchen frei, um sich mit mir auf der Matte zu räkeln, außer an den zweiten Samstagen im Monat, da ist, wer mag, eingeladen, mit mir in Falkensee im Tryambakam einen entspannten Yogavormittag zu verbringen.
