Happy national puppy day! First pic is 2nd week after adopting Bodie, 6ish months old. Second pic is Bodie around 3-4 months old when he was found abandoned in the Mojave desert. When I learned about Bodies story online I was shocked to learn a healthy, friendly and well behaved puppy was at one time on a euth list. Somewhere deep in my subconscious I mistakenly thought puppies aren’t euthanized. Are there even operating kill shelters in CA? How ignorant I was to the fact that CA is actually the highest euthanasia state with over 100k dogs euthanized a year, equating to roughly 1 in 4 dogs born and those numbers are reflected pre mass covid adoptions and the current shortage of veterinarians. Those numbers are sadly projected to dramatically increase over the next few years. Nugget - Available for Adoption - The Dexter Foundation - Special Needs (seizure disorder) Nugget is a three year old Bichon Frise and Maltese mix. He was rescued from a high kill shelter and then brought to a vet to get a full medical evaluation. Nugget has a seizure disorder but since he has started medication for it, he hasn’t had a single seizure. His medication is inexpensive and he is very good about taking his pills. Nugget is very cuddly and affectionate. He gets along well with other dogs and children. He is fully house trained and well mannered. He doesn’t have any bad habits such as barking, chewing or digging. Nugget has a playful and happy personality. He would be a great dog for someone who works from home. He enjoys sitting quietly beside you while you work. Nugget is neutered, fully vaccinated and microchipped. They have been on “confiscation” hold, which is a mandatory holding period of 15 days, to allow the humans to realize what a horrible mistake they made and come pick up these babies. The shelter has already notified the networkers that they will likely be euthanized soon if rescues don’t come for them. 2 have rescue holds. The others do not.
