(not to get confused with absorbent inserts and boosters, liners are there to help make clean up that much easier) 🙂 🤔 Ever felt a bit hesitant about the 'poop aspect' of cloth nappying? Liners are your answer. They act as a perfect barrier, catching most, if not all, of the mess and making cleanup way more of a breeze. But, here's the scoop: you’ve got the option for disposable or reusable liners, depending on what you want and need! 🙋♀️ Disposable liners can be super handy and some mums love these for the ease of just throwing them away at change time. 🌿 Or if you're all about that sustainable life (and I know lots of mums are 😉), there are reusable liners, such as fleece or athletic wicking jersey; these are not only eco-friendly but also provide a super soft touch and stay-dry layer against baby's delicate skin. 🫶 Then, the huge bonus for me with our fleece liners is being able to just hold the liner underneath the flush stream to get rid of poop…as opposed to trying to hold the whole nappy under there! Pre wash cycle time 💦 I'm often asked if a pre wash and main wash cycle are both necessary for cleaning cloth nappies, and the answer is absolutely YES! The pre wash removes excess soiling so that the main wash cycle can be completed with clean water and do the best job of cleaning your baby's nappies. If you don't pre wash you are much more likely to encounter smells, stains and other problems. For your pre wash, choose a short wash cycle, using warm water (40-60 degrees) and half the amount of detergent recommended for heavy soiling. After the pre wash, your nappies can go back to the dry pail to wait until main wash day. We do a daily pre wash cycle in our house. Line dry your nappy inserts whenever you can. But, if you are strapped for time or the weather is lovely and rainy you can tumble dry them as needed. In winter, inserts will generally take a lot longer to dry. Avoid running out of inserts by adding some extra sets to your stash. 🧺 T I P T U E S D A Y 🧺 When your brand spanking new cloth nappies arrive in the post i know its sooooo tempting to whip it out of the packaging and get it onto bub ASAP, but listen up...you gotta prep inserts before you use them! Why? Inserts are soft, fluffy and gorgeous to begin with but you need to roughen them up and expose them to moisture to optimise absorbency...otherwise they wont last between changes 🧺Its common advice to machine wash inserts at least 3x before use BUT theres a little trick meaning you save on water and electricity!- winning at life 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 🧺Run warm water in the sink and soak your inserts for 12-24hrs 🧺Once soaked, throw in the washing machine for 1 wash cycle 🧺Line or tumble dry- then VIOLA! ready for use💛 Soaking the inserts prepares the fibres for first use, making them much for effective and last longer. We LOVE hearing your tips and tricks- please feel free to share with our beautiful cloth community! MY BABY IS THE PERFECT SIZE FOR MY BODY . Women can carry a lot of fear that their baby is going to grow ‘too big’, others may worry theirs is ‘too small’. Perhaps someone has put the thought into your head by commenting on your bump size, or sharing traumatic stories which stay in your subconscious. Growth scans are another common cause for worry over baby’s size despite being notoriously inaccurate especially in late pregnancy! . In reality it makes no biological sense for s a healthy, woman to grow a baby too big to get you, and bump size doesn’t always correlate with baby’s size. I’ve known a woman whos bumps measured perfectly, she birthed all of three of her 12lb+ babies at home with no issues at all, and I’ve known a woman who barely looked pregnant who birthed 8lb+ babies! . Your baby is the perfect size for your body, and your body is designed to give birth. Trust it! . It doesn’t matter if you have all of one brand and style, or a mix of 10 - some nappies you might prefer for different roles (for example we use an @bambinomio miosolo for grandparents as they’re so easy, but they’re not as reliable as my faves so not my go to generally!) . People are often surprised that cloth nappies are fitted slightly differently to disposables. That doesn’t make it hard, it just requires you to learn a slightly new approach. . When putting on a disposable, you tend to start with the back up high (so as to hopefully contain the poop!), pull the front up between the legs, and fasten quite tightly. You’d then ensure the inner elasticated gusset / frill was untucked to keep everything inside. . With a cloth nappy it’s almost the reverse: start with the back low, in line with the hips, then when lifting the front squeeze the fabric together so the leg elastics tuck in and sit in the knicker line rather than out against the thighs. Before fastening the tabs, pull them up and out at around 45degrees from the body to ensure a snug fit around the leg and raise the back slightly. Do not untuck anything when you’re finished! .
