I’m building habits! If you haven’t seen my rubber band trick yet, here it is. I have absolutely no interest in carrying a huge water bottle around to make sure I get my water in. I add four rubber bands and move them to either the top or the bottom every time I fill up this bottle. For years I struggled to get my water in. I just can’t stand plain water and it was never a priority for me. During the day, time slipped away from me and the next thing I knew it was nighttime and I only had one or two glasses. I felt the effects. * Exhaustion * Dry skin * Brain fog * Storing extra weight Recently, I upped my water game and the difference in my health is crazy! I am energized, shedding the pounds and feel good all over. Now that summer is here, staying hydrated is a must! Have you ever had big dreams for your life but then thought they were too difficult to achieve, so there is no point even trying? Do you ever feel overwhelmed with study, personal relationships, or lack of money? Do you look at other successful people and think, well, that could never happen to me? Do you feel stuck? Most people live in reaction mode, which means they react to events in their lives as they occur. Sure, they may have a rough idea that they 1. want to have a successful career, 2. want to have a family, 3. want to live in a lovely house, 4. go on a nice holiday once a year. Significantly few people spend time planning clear goals and being specific about what they want in detail. This is why so many people drift through life, get to their middle age and then feel disappointed with their relationships and situation. I wish that I had learned this when I was in my twenties. If you want anything in your life, you need to write down precisely what that is. Then look at the people who have already achieved those goals and learn what they did to get there. Think about what sort of person you need to be to achieve that goal. What type of character traits do you need to learn? Practice them daily. Start small and build on your skills daily. No one is an expert at anything when they start. But the most successful people in life have a goal and then a plan to get what they want. It sounds too simple, right? Wrong! The first step is deciding what you what and then taking one step at a time to get there. Have you ever received a negative comment from someone that has upset you? Have you then thought about that comment repeatedly? . Comments from other people can hurt, but only if you will allow them to. . You have more control over your emotions than you think possible . Sometimes you can create a disaster scenario in your head that does not really exist. . You create your own reality, so you can choose to ignore those comments and fill your mind with appreciation and positive thoughts to feel calmer and more in control of your life . It is a skill you can practice and it starts with self-awareness . Gratitude and appreciation are values that recent studies have shown to increase your well-being and therefore your quality and success in life . Most people think about things they don’t have and want and feel bad for not having the desired possession . With repeated thoughts this can lead to feelings of insignificance and depression . Fortunately, focussing on what you do have and being really grateful for it is a skill you can practice . At the end of each day try and think of 3 things or people you valued during that day and write it down . As your brain shifts attention to positive thoughts it will increase happiness and can prevent or reverse depression . Seems too simple to be true right? The words you use to yourself are fundamental to how your brain perceives the world . If you are feeling sad, ‘YOU’ are not sad, but you are ‘FEELING’ sad . If you keep repeating ‘I am sad’ to yourself, your brain starts to believe it’s true - but it is not fact . Feelings are transient and they change . No feeling is permanent and this is useful to remember when you have a negative feeling . Sadness, depression, anxiety, overwhelm, insecurity, worthlessness are all feelings not facts . Self- awareness is the first step to regulating your thoughts and channelling them into positive thoughts . Ask yourself - ‘How are you feeling?’ . Someone who is ruthless does not have compassion and will take down whoever is in their way to achieve their goal . Ambition is a strong desire to achieve an objective. You can be kind, thoughtful and inclusive as well as ambitious . Being ambitious to achieve a goal is a good thing. It pushes you to achieving more and becoming a better version of yourself. . The antidote to self doubt is self belief - but how do you improve your self- belief? . Here’s a little motivation for your Monday! These are my results after Phase 1! Can you believe I ONLY lost 2 lbs... but a total of 6 inches all over !! 😱😱😱 3 weeks in the bag with 6 more to go! I’m far from bored with this program and am loving every challenge it’s throwing my direction. It only takes 21 days to develop a habit. If your consistent you will get changes. What was the first thing you ever failed? . For me, it was my driving test and I was devastated! . I went on to fail it a second time and passed it on the third attempt . I remember feeling so humiliated as so many of my friends had already passed and were driving . When I got to medical school I failed my first academic exams and had to retake them . I knew this was totally my fault for not preparing properly, but again I felt terrible and totally humiliated . Later on in my career I went to fail at getting jobs I really wanted . But looking back, things happen for a reason and it took me on a journey that got me to where I am today . I now realise that failure is not something to be ashamed about . Every failure teaches you something and gives you an opportunity to reflect, reassess and grow .
