Velociraptor measured approximately 1.5–2.07 meters (4.9–6.8 feet) in length and weighed around 14.1–19.7 kilograms (31–43 pounds). It was a bipedal, feathered carnivore with a long tail and enlarged sickle-shaped claws on each hindfoot, likely used for hunting. Contrary to its depiction in popular culture, Velociraptor was about the size of a turkey, not the size of the larger animals seen in Jurassic Park. Similar to modern animals with feathery or furry coats, Velociraptor’s feathered covering suggests a some evidence being warm blooded. However, bone growth rates in dromaeosaurids and early birds hint at a slower metabolism compared to most present day warm-blooded mammals and birds. This fish is solitary. Its diet consists mostly of invertebrates along with detritus. Fun Facts: • The zebra pleco is named after its striped pattern. Each pattern is unique to each pleco, just like an actual zebra’s! • Unlike a lot of other plecos, the zebra pleco’s diet is more carnivorous, preferring to eat aquatic invertebrates over algae! • Males of this species are territorial, defending its turf from other males! • This fish is highly sought after by aquarists. As it only lives in a very small portion of a river, it is highly vulnerable to extinction. A dam built poses a huge threat to this species as the water flow it requires has been drastically reduced, and fish are also sometimes illegally collected for the black market. A few breeding programs currently exist for the zebra pleco in hopes of restoring its wild population and to supply captive-bred fish for the aquarium trade! I'm the guy that brewed the #kombucha in your green room mate. O... I can't drink that..I can't have sugar.. I respectfully withdraw from that banter because noone wants to hear me speak about the blood sugar regulating magic that is a well brewed kombucha at a comedy gig. Anyway.. the show goes on. All of a sudden he's laying into @gretathunberg saying she's got no ethics and no clue, co2 is great for plants, her parents are child abusers for putting her up to the task of worrying about our #extinction. This is in #Brunswick.. everyone is agreeing with him. Then he says.. "and now she's at the White house.." Ghosts: The Cuban Crocodile For this project I considered it important to portray extinction as haunting. I took heavy visual inspiration from photographs and footage associated with Cryptozoology and the paranormal, such as the Patterson/Gimlin bigfoot film and the 'spirit photography' of William hope. This image representing the Cuban Crocodile, intends to take the features defining ferocity such as the teeth and jaws and use them to represent the fragility of this species. The model is posed to subtly imply a scream and the image has been deliberately overexposed and edited to obscure the subject and communicate that the presense of the Cuban Crocodile is being bleached out of existence. I have always been drawn books that take on biology in a creative way. It’s the microbiologist in me and my love of late night lab drama #iykyk In Extinction, a resort in the high Colorado Rockies has been created to offer its guests the opportunity to see animals that have since disappeared. Wooly mammoths, Irish Elk, and giant ground sloths are some of what can be seen. And even though aggression have been removed from the genome, there are still potential problems here. This is a thriller that fans of Jurassic Park will eat up. It’s just possible enough that it’s kinda creepy and super entertaining. I read it over the past couple of days and have already passed it along to one of my boys. And of course the Colorado atmosphere made it extra fun for me. 🏔️ • • Extinction is out now.
