My mom is visiting from Greece and she brought with her the best ingredients for a feast, ingredients I grew up eating and that now I’m introducing to my son. Σουτζούκι (spicy fresh beef sausage), παστουρμά (seasoned, air-cured beef), and we cooked two of my favorite dishes. Ingredients: 2.2 lbs of lamb shoulder 4-5 Roma tomatoes 2 onions 1 tablespoon of oregano 1 teaspoon of cinnamon 2 cinnamon sticks, snapped in half 4 cups of beef broth 4 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil 2 cups of orzo Directions: 1. In a casserole dish, arrange the lamb, Chopped onions, spices and cinnamon sticks. Pour the oil over the top and mix well with a spoon until everything is evenly coated. Place uncovered into the oven for 45 minutes at 350 degrees. Pictured here are 3 peices of lamb shoulder and a lamb shank. I chose to do this to see how the shank cooked in this dish. The original recipe is made with lamb shoulder. 2. After 45 minutes, add in your diced tomatoes and beef stock. Add in the uncooked orzo. Place back into the oven and continue to cook for 1 1/2 hours. 3. Turn and stir occasionally. You can top with cheese or serve warm as is. #lamb #youvetsi #lambyouvetsi #greek #greekcomfortfood

Welp, this beauty here was purchased from a new spot in the food court called Pita Chik. Unsure of the ethnicity but I can tell you it's authentic. The Mousakka platter is what this is called on the menu. Comes with a slice of Mousakka, a side salad and 4 flavorful pieces of pita bread. The Mousakka was delicious and it felt like someone's YiaYia made it for me. It was comfort food and it was an absolute pleasant surprise. Usually food court food consists of fast food joints like McDonald's or Burger King. It was a long shot but I'm glad it turned it well. Shout out to the young man who worked behind the counter. He was very attentive and tried to answer any questions people had as they lingered by the counter. He worked very hard that day! The pita tasted like it was lightly toasted and seasoned. Idk what it could've been but the pita was outstanding imo.
