I’m always amused when people approach me to offer sympathy for how challenging it must be with twins. I often jest that the babies are no trouble. It’s the two older ones I want to tie up:) (I’ve replaced three windows in just the last year)! It’s a good thing I had my older two first to teach me a few things before Apolonia and Pete arrived. Most importantly, I know how fast this first year of babyhood flies. Sometimes there is a string of difficult moments—missed naps, sleepless nights, colicky crying, endless teething—but it’s over so quickly. When I had my first, I would sometimes irrationally feel that I would be stuck in a difficult place forever like when Teddy starting biting while nursing or when Charlie had colic for first 3.5 months during COVID. A friend encouraged me: “Don’t get too upset about anything. Whatever is wrong this week will be over in two weeks and there will be something new.” And she was right. Teddy stopped biting while nursing after a month or so. He had been getting his first teeth and was sorting himself out. Charlie stopped crying all the time just in time for Christmas. So when I walk through the grocery store with my cart full of babies, I don’t feel overwhelmed. I feel happy and triumphant from where we’ve come. I would daydream of moments like this before Pete’s surgery. As I stroll, I feel thankful that someone is entertaining the big guys at the playground so I can shop. And I already feel nostalgic for these moments that are passing by too quickly. #twins #twinswithdownsyndrome #handsfull

In a small village about 6 kilometers from Maastricht Annemiek @dewondertuinannemiek has a lovely flower garden !! Yesterday I went to pick and buy tulips. A big colourful bed of tulips, with lots of different kinds and colours, and the invitation to pick them myself…. no need to say that I enjoyed it. Her garden looked nice and well looked after. There are many flowers in the making, and I’m sure there will be lots of opportunity to go and pick a colourful bunch this summer. Mar 16 ~ Hands Full Almost 2.5 years ago, Mama J moved in with us after her husband of 70 years passed away. I wasn’t prepared for how challenging that first year with her was because of her dementia and grieving but I can say that we have adjusted. She is thriving for being almost 91. She loves to go to church with us, rides the trike around the neighborhood with Ray and loves to go thrifting with me. I’ve learned to just say okay when she tells me that several professional football quarterbacks are from her tiny hometown of Anson, Texas. Sure, that’s great! She likes to help with dishes and sometimes I have to search for where she puts things but that’s okay. She sometimes complains about taking prescriptions and she only has 2 of them! I took this photo while she was napping this morning and smiled when I zoomed in and saw her weather app shows 18 degrees. Um, not sure where she set that location since we are in the 50’s this morning.

This morning as I left my home with a diaper bag dangling from one arm, a purse dangling from the other, a camera strapped around my neck, fighting with my keys to lock the door with one hand and pushing a stroller in the other hand—I heard snappy clicks of a tongue and the words, “I think she’s already a single mom or something.” When I looked up, Karen and her bestie were jogging past my home in their matching Halara leggings. With their best eye roll, they quickly looked away realizing I’d heard them. By the time I got everything and everyone in my vehicle and began my commute, I met up with the duo at the stop sign. The direction they were facing told me they, the pedestrians, would be crossing in front of me—so, I waited. One of the women began mouthing the words, “F***ING GOOOO.” and waiving her arms around like a banshee as she attempted to direct me. I mean, did she think I was going to sneakily run them over with my vehicle as they crossed the street? I would never do that. Do you know what I would do though? I would grab my Dutch Bros gift card, roll down my passenger window, hand it to them, smile and drive away, knowing that regrettably, I will never witness the reaction when that gift card simply removes twelve cents from the total.
