Choosing to stay home with my kids and become a one-income family really wasn't very difficult for us. We knew how important it was for me to be home with the kids every day, homeschooling and being completely involved, but I also had a career that I had worked hard for. Ultimately, it came down to identifying and sticking to our morals and convictions, and trusting God would provide ways for us fo be successful in these decisions. We also knew that me being home, doesn't have to mean there will never be other avenues for income. I started breeding German Shepherds several years ago after totally falling in love with the breed. This has become an outlet for me to continue to use my nursing skills, an invaluable experience-based learning model for my kids, a whole-family hobby and another form of income. If you are looking for a way to stay home with your kids or to work from home, I promise there are endless ways to make that work. Pray about it and be willing to put in the work and doors will open. When you have the means to be independent, you are fully free. 🇺🇸

The dried frosting on that favorite wooden cutting board~ reminders of the small palms that squeezed frosting onto oven-fresh sugar cookies with overzealous excitement. J’s laughter ringing through the house, through my very bones, reverberating in my soul like a singing cathedral bell 🥀 Folding still warm towels fancy in that Marie Kondo kind of way 💫 Keeping long hair plaited to the side for her to finger gently as she lays in my arms. The ever-present, overwhelming joy spilling out of my heart & into every caress, every kiss, every gaze I set upon J, upon our children.

Monday is for Making; sweet treats for my family, fun adventure plans with friends, and making sure my floors are swept and mopped! It's also a day for going through the household budget, checking the cupboards and making a note of which staple items we're running low on and having a cuppa whilst updating the family calendar. As my children have gotten older I've found that some things have changed - they no longer need me in the same ways they once did - and yet some things (like they're endless love for my baking) remain the same! I've been reflecting a lot on the transition from parenting teens to being the parent of adults recently. I'm wondering what my role is now as I'm no longer needed for homeschooling, planning activities, organising their lives and so on; and what I want to do with the time I have available now those duties have been fulfilled.... January Beyond the Bookstagram We kind of eased our way into 2024. January brought us to the northern shore in New Jersey, where we saw two lighthouses and seals in the wild and other wildlife at Sandy Hook. We watched a lot of playoff football while cheering on our Packers as long as we could. We had measurable snowfall in two different winter storms, which was a big deal because it's been two years since we've had any measurable snow. We went a county over so I could gain a library card in a neighboring system. And today I gained another meal plan set from @passionatepennypincher so we have a whole new set of recipes to explore in the coming months. When I'm not reading, I'm found most often in the kitchen, so it was exciting. I can't believe it's the 9th set they've created and that I get to enjoy. I do love a laundromat for washing my big duvet inners and blankets. There is one right by my supermarket and the 35-minute wash cycle is a perfect time to get my grocery shopping done. I then take my wet washing home and hang it on the clothesline.
