First up for today we are checking out "The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare", the new action spy / war comedy by Guy Ritchie and is based on Damien Lewis’ 2014 book, "Churchill’s Secret Warriors: The Explosive True Story of the Special Forces Desperadoes of WWII". The main reason I wanted to see this one was because Henry Cavill is in it but I’m also excited to see some other familiar actors in it too! Review: “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare” from EoM Senior Critic Hunter Heilman. It’s nice to see a filmmaker really come into his own, not necessarily in a stylistic sense, as Ritchie has been unabashedly himself behind a camera since 1998, but in the comfort and ease that comes in being able to really do what you want, as much as you want after so many years. Ritchie isn’t a filmmaker who is constantly throwing his hat into different rings, but is tweaking individual elements of his tried-and-true formulas to create new experiences that, while familiar, all stand on their own two feet handedly, and “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare” is no different. This is that type of film my dad and I would’ve seen on a Friday night when I was in eighth grade while I spent the weekend at his house, and it’s that sort of mid-budget dad movie that I’ve missed so much in this landscape of big-budget, soulless franchise films. I think it’s beautiful that Guy Ritchie has worked so tirelessly to preserve such an underrated genre of film. Be ready for your dad to ask you about this movie at Thanksgiving this year, and prepare for him to absolutely butcher the title of it even more. In theaters April 19th, 2024. His style is there, it's something he can hardly shed when he makes films like this one, but it seems that this time there wasn't much interest in making more appealing characters and above all a more engaging story. Much of the effectiveness of this film is due to the charisma of Henry Cavill and Alan Ritchson. If you just want to be entertained without looking for something with a little more substance, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare will give you two hours of that, which you'll forget before the day is over. 4/8- The Minstry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, dir. Guy Ritchie Guy Ritchie’s sixth movie in the same amount of years, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is a reminder of why the phrase quality over quantity exists. Ritchie’s brand of action comedy feels stretched to its thinnest here. This extends to the lazy plot, dialogue, and even some of the action which feels lifted from past collaborator Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman series. The performances at least manage to be entertaining though one noted (another casualty of the screenplay), and Henry Cavill has never been more fun to watch on screen in a role he feels more at home in than he ever was in a cape and tights. The biggest issue I had with this anachronistic spy caper was just how tension free it feels, as if there’s never really a danger of failure on the horizon. With it difficult to suspend disbelief, you’re not left with much to connect to, making for a forgettable experience. If you can go in with low expectations however, there may be enough looney tunes action and cheesy zingers to satisfy for its runtime if not much more. Black Hawk Down is a 2001 war film directed and produced by Ridley Scott, and co-produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, from a screenplay by Ken Nolan. It is based on the 1999 eponymous non-fiction book by journalist Mark Bowden, about the crew of a Black Hawk helicopter that was shot down during the Battle of Mogadishu. I’ll review a Disney fantasy film title that I watched 🎥🎞️ Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017) パイレーツ・オブ・カリビアン／最後の海賊 This movie is Johnny Depp played a lone pirate “Jack Sparrow” in the 5th series of the global blockbuster series. The plot of the movie is about, Centered on the confrontation between the lonely pirate “Jack Sparrow” and the vengeful "Grim of the Sea" Salazar, the fates of “Will Turner’s son “Henry Turner”, the lone astronomer “Karina”, and Jack's nemesis “Barbossa” intersect. Salazar, the Grim Reaper of the Sea who has a grudge against Jack Sparrow, has been freed from the Devil's Triangle. To stop Salazar's revenge, they must obtain Poseidon's Spear, a treasure that only the Last Pirate can find. Meanwhile, Henry, cursed to land only once every 10 years, approaches Jack to get Poseidon's spear and break his father's curse. I thought about this film, Henry Turner played by “Brenton Thwaites” is 12 years older than Will Turner played by “Orlando Bloom”, although their age is related to siblings, I think Brenton did a good job of exposing the atmosphere of being a son to make Henry looks younger. It was as comical as ever, but it was steadily funny. I hope to produce for a sequel.
