. Rasta Rockett - Réalisé par Jon Turteltaub (1993) . Synopsis: L’histoire véridique de quatre Jamaïcains qui ont un rêve fou : obtenir une médaille d’or dans une discipline olympique qui leur est totalement inconnue et impossible à pratiquer chez eux : le bobsleigh ! . Mon avis: Ce film culte a bercé toute mon enfance, et me rappellera toujours les séances de cinéma que je passais avec mon père. “Sur toute la planète les gens n’en reviennent pas, en Jamaïque aussi le bobsleigh a une équipe!” A partir de cette simple phrase, que Sanka chante à tue-tête, on a résumé l’ensemble du fond de Rasta Rockett: l’histoire, incroyable mais vraie, de la première équipe de bobsleigh de l’histoire qui représente la Jamaïque aux Jeux Olympiques d’hiver de Calgary (1988). Mais, plus que cela, Rasta Rockett se démarque des biopics habituels par un humour décapant qui fait mourir de rire toute la famille à travers des séquences et répliques devenues cultissimes: (lorsqu’ils sortent de l’aéroport dans un blizzard) “Qu’est-ce que tu fumes?” - “Je fumes pas, j’expire!”; ou encore le gimmick “Sanka, tu es mort ?” - “Yeah, man...”, qui marche à tous les coups. Mais, encore plus qu’un biopic particulièrement drôle, Rasta Rockett se positionne comme un petit bijou merveilleux par ses messages de tolérance et d’acceptation de soi-même: il n’y a qu’à voir les rires hilares des sponsors lorsqu’on leur annonce que des “Noirs” vont participer aux JO d’hiver, ou même les bras cassés refoulés qui forment l’équipe (un sprinter aux rêves fous, un doux dingue qui fait un gag à la seconde, un petit timide qui a peur de tout, et un grand baraqué mais qui craint son propre avenir...). Mentionnons l’excellente scène, à la fois comique et touchante, de la collaboration surprise du timide et du baraqué: “Un type fier !..”. Le final, plein de beauté du sport, nous rappelle que l’important c’est d’aller jusqu’au bout (de la course, et de ses rêves, au delà des préjugés...), dont les notes écrites avant le générique nous prouvent que ces hommes doux rêveurs et battants, malgré les moqueries de tous, ont bien eu raison... NATIONAL TREASURE writers: Jim Kouf, Cormac Wibberley, Marianne Wibberley director: Jon Turteltaub NATIONAL TREASURE finds Nicolas Cage doing his best Harrison Ford (or is it Tom Cruise?), running, jumping, swimming, and driving from location to location trying to link vague clues about a possible treasure map hidden on the back of the Declaration of Independence (and heretofore unknown by anyone else in the world). I'd honestly never seen this movie until recently with the kids for a family movie night. It's enjoyable, if a bit dated. As with basically all films of this subgenre, the plot itself is a gobbledygook device to ferry the actors from one location and setpiece to the next. The type of movie where an actor will step to the edge of a harbor, talk into an earpiece to the FBI Director about "just trust me," and then jump into the river to evade capture. The screenplay is efficient, but also a bit odd at times. Nicolas Cage and Diane Kruger have an awkward enemies-to-lovers thing going which borders on misogynistic early in the film, and I guess we're supposed to buy the romance because they both like history and puzzles? Then Jon Voight, who plays Cage's father, starts off highly skeptical of Cage's latest adventure, but turns on a dime to accepting and then aiding and abetting him as the film goes along. It moves quickly and does exactly what it wants to do, so there isn't much time to dwell on these issues. It's overall a fun (if empty) romp. Seemingly whimsical and juvenile, don’t judge this film by its poster or plot, for it is, upon closer examination, as deep as the ocean. Esta película no puedes dejar de verla y sobre todo: ENTENDERLA. La historia arranca con el histérico asesor de imagen, Russ Duritz, quien trata mal a sus colaboradores e inclusive a su familia. Él sólo piensa en facturar, nada más. Por esas cosas raras del destino un niño interrumpe en su vida y cuando él descubre que se trata de él mismo, pero de pequeño, piensa que está loco en primera instancia. Luego busca la forma de entender el porqué de este suceso. Recuerdo haber visto esta película muy joven y si bien uno la goza y se emociona, no llegué a entenderla a profundidad. Ahora 24 años más tarde, no solamente la he disfrutado, sino que hasta he llorado entendiendo el mensaje que busca transmitirnos: Conócete a ti mismo. J'aime beaucoup la première partie du film, elle me rappelle la BD Carthago, la suite par contre est plutôt moyenne. C'est le genre de film qui a tout pour me plaire, une histoire de survie avec une grosse bête et un environnement sous-marin. Mais malgré le fait que je sois bon public je me suis ennuyé sur la fin. Review Cool Runnings 1993 DVD Rating: 4/5 Cool Runnings boasts a formulaic sports story but is elevated by its comedy, performances and heartwarming tone. The central casting of John Candy in his lighthearted comedic style but carefully balanced dramatic turn is what grounds the film. He was coming off a disappointing previous year after starring in 4 releases in 91. The actors of the Jamaican bobsled team have great chemistry and you genuinely care that this underdog team succeeds. The film is a work of fiction and the events are heightened to service the feel good tone of this film, but that’s forgivable when it’s this enjoyable. Filmmaker Jon Turteltaub was coming off a variety of comedies, with his most recent film 3 Ninjas being successful financially and developing a cult audience. It’s a good choice with Turteltaub in the director’s seat and having Candy as the lead role ensures the tone of the film never shifts into heavy handed drama. The film covers a lot of themes and Disney had been successful in this era with their choices for live action. The energy of its central characters ensures the film is fun and engaging. It’s a combination of storytelling and structure that helped this grow into the underdog of the 93 box office season. It’s not as remembered as other sports films, but it’s certainly one I remember and watch casually from time to time.
