So last night, one of my besties and I were talking about Nancy Drew. And we discussed at length I might add the rich history cinematically she has had. It started in 1938 with Nancy Drew Detective. It started Bonita Granville as Nancy, and she made four movies. And then there was nothing until 1977 where Pamela Sue Martin became iconic, playing the role of Nancy Drew. Then, once Pamela quit, we did not get another Nancy until 1995, when a Canadian production company did half-hour episodes for Nancy Drew starring Tracy Ryan as Nancy it only lasted one season. Syndication in the 90s was a Fickle thing you either hit big or you didn't. And then we didn't have another Nancy Drew until 2002, where the indelible @magslawslawson played Nancy in an hour and a half long movie intended as a pilot for a TV series produced by Disney. It was a little darker in tone than we had ever seen Nancy before, but I really loved it! It's a shame it did not get picked up for a series because Maggie carried that well! And then, of course, we have the wildest romp in Nancy Drew land we have ever had. Again, by Disney! @emmaroberts took over as our penny loafer wearing maven of mysteries, and I freaking love it! Then, of course, we have the Nancy Drew that wasn't. In 2000, I believe 16 one of my most favorite actors out there @sarahshahi who we know really well from the USA Network TV show Fairly Legal. Unfortunately, her pilot Drew did not get picked up. I would love to have seen it. And then,of course, we had a little dry spell for Nancy again until @sophialillis gave us another youthful turn as Nancy Drew taking us back to where it started with a reboot of the Hidden staircase. And then it happened.Nancy Drew got a new TV show series with a supernatural tinge. @kennedymcmann led the seriously awesome Four Season Miracle show. Blending the supernatural and murder mysteries seamlessly,I have all four seasons. I can't believe from 1938 till now we have had so many incredible women portraying this very strong character. My answer: This was the Nancy Drew book series I read the most of as a kid. I fondly remember talking my dad to take me to Boarder's Books as a little kid and finding these titles on the shelf. In this trilogy Nancy Drew goes undercover as a pageant contestant and although she doesn't do very well as a pageant girl she's great as a detective. She takes on the beauty queen stereotypes, but unfortunately they win more often than not in this story. I enjoyed the drama and mystery in this one mostly for the nostalgia, but it is a solid mystery. July was a dream and a seriously eye-opening catch-me-before-I-fall time. I will never forget those four weeks. My vacation centered me. Made me obnoxiously aware of my surroundings, feelings and past. It brought me full circle to a LOT of questions in my life and I can’t WAIT to go back (iykyk). • I wanted to post again, not only before the episode tonight but before my three year anniversary on this page in three weeks. As many of you have shared, I too, am not ready to let go of this soul-searching, empowering and life altering show that is Nancy Drew. I am forever grateful that I was fortunate enough to take the plunge from the very start having loved the series for all of my life. It is one of my comfort shows, just as Carson and Nancy are my comfort ship. They have taught me so much, about standing up for your family even if they don’t want you there and realizing that the choices you make, effect every person that knows you (iykyk). And that has never been more true then right now for me. Without thinking things through and taking other people’s feelings into consideration.
