Feeling unheard 🙇🏻♀️ These are comments made by medics (mainly GPs) to clients who have attended the clinic, often ill informed and unsupportive comments that leave clients feeling quite defeated, deflated and depressed. A lot of people attending the clinic have seen various GPs and specialists whilst dropping up to thousands of euros on appointments and testing and still remain no clearer with regards to their health situation. Just some of the issues experienced by clients who have made these comments include stomach complaints, heavy periods, low mood, chronic fatigue, toxicity issues, severe PMS, just to name a few. 🍃 Name change incoming! So after much thought I have finally decided to go ahead and change my business name from ‘Riverside Biokinesiology’ to ‘The Holistic Nurse’. ‘The Holistic Nurse’ is a nod to my experience of working in both the medical and alternative field of medicine. I have gained invaluable knowledge and skills throughout the years, from my experience of working in mental health, completing both my degree in nursing and my masters in mental health, becoming a yoga teacher and most recently, receiving my diploma in Biokinesiology. My nursing experience in particular has allowed me to question some of the more conventional approaches we use today in western medicine. My transition into the world of Biokinesiology has enhanced my knowledge on the importance of nutrition in health whilst providing me with the skills and understanding of getting to the root cause of the issue for clients rather than solely treating associated symptoms. I’m beyond greatful for both the professional and personal experiences I’ve gained in life, although some of them difficult I truly believe they have lead me to who I am and what I do today. Re-introduction I’ve had a lot of new followers recently, so I thought I’d re-introduce myself. I am Dominique a mama of 2, Saoirse is 3 and Seanán is 6 months. Next month we will be 2 years home from Australia and what a 2 years it’s been. We moved home, I opened my business and I’ve been busy ever since. Since we're learning about blood sugars this month, let's look at insulin resistance! Insulin is what regulates our sugar levels in our body.. Insulin resistance is when cells in your muscles, fat, and liver don’t respond well to insulin and can’t use glucose from your blood for energy. To make up for it, your pancreas makes more insulin. Over time, your blood sugar levels go up. Insulin resistance syndrome includes a group of problems like obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and type 2 diabetes. Other problems that may arise are fatty liver and hormonal imbalances resulting in acne, hirsutism (excess body hair), PCOS and infertility. On a positive note, insulin resistance CAN be improved, and even reversed, with proper diet, exercise, weight loss and if needed, certain medications! EVERYTHING boils down to our diet! Full moon in Pisces Friday 9th September Ohhh this one has all the feels, the best advice I can give you is, go easy on yourself. This full moon is all about letting go and moving forward, letting go of limiting beliefs about yourself and what you can do! It’s all about dreaming and going for it. What is your dream? What do you actually want? It’s time to go for it. Think it, believe it, dream it and get it! Trust is a major thing here, we need to trust that we can achieve are dreams no matter how outrageous they may seem. Remember mercury is going into retrograde at the same time, so there may be delays or some tech issues, just go with the flow and keep dreaming. I encourage you to take some quiet time tonight, sit with your pen and paper, write down what you want to let go of, what is holding you back, what limiting beliefs are you telling yourself and actually starting to believe. The time is now, the night is now! Make it special, get a nice cuppa or glass of wine, sit down and enjoy the me time. Light a candle and after you are done writing, burn that piece of paper and do a meditation. This is what helps enforce the letting go process even further. Imagine a life with everything you wanted and needed. It’s different for each of us, you’d be surprised to know for most of us, it’s not material things. It’s things we can ultimately change ourselves by taking the next step and moving forward.
