I wanted to treat the hubby to an upgraded tasting experience so I booked a Legacy Experience for the two of us at L'Ecole's newish Woodinville tasting room! Doesn't this look fantastic? 🍷 Nothing makes my heart skip a beat quite like seeing wine glasses lined up and waiting for us! 💜 The flight showcased 4 wines from the 2015 vintage. 🧀 Delectable cheese selections and nibbles curated by Rachael, everyone's favorite Cheese Lady, accompanied each sip. 😁 We also got treated to the latest release of rosé (it's grenache and so good we bought a bottle to take home along with some Chard!). 🍇 If you're near the area be sure to head there this weekend, April 19-21, for a fun barrel tasting being offered by L'Ecole and their neighbors Montinore Estate, Mullan Road Cellars, and Barnard Griffin. 🏫 Find the tasting room along "Wine Walk Row" in what some people call the Downtown District. If you guessed that the grape variety is Dornfelder you're right! 😂 A throwback on this #TravelTuesday to my visit at Vinothek Rheinweinwelt Ruedesheim in Germany during a fun tour with Bottle Stops which I highly recommend. 🍷 Imagine a self serve wine bar with room after room filled with 80 or so local wines available for sampling (wine dreams do come true!!). The guest simply purchases tokens then chooses which wines to taste from these automated servers. It enabled me to taste a number of wines I may never have otherwise encountered. Link zur Folge in Bio. 🎧🎙️ ~~~ Der Masut da Rive Sassirossi DOC 2021 ist eine aus 60% Merlot und 40% Cabernet Sauvignon gekelterte Cuvée, die im Glas ein tiefes Rubinrot mit violetten Reflexen zeigt. Die durchschnittlich 35 Jahre alten Rebstöcke gedeihen im Gebiet Isonzo del Friuli, einem der DOC Gebiete im Friaul. Nach der Handlese werden die Trauben entrappt. Anschließend geht es in eine recht lange Mazeration der Trauben während der Gärung (bei der Mazeration werden Farbe und Tannine aus den Schalen der Trauben gelöst). Nach der malolaktischen Gärung (siehe Weinwissen) reift der Wein zwölf Monate lang in französischen Eichenfässern. In der Nase begeistert er mit Aromen von schwarzen Johannisbeeren und Heidelbeeren, die von einem Hauch Lakritze und kräuterigen Noten untermalt werden. Am Gaumen entfaltet der Wein eine vollmundige und weiche Textur mit einem ausgewogenen Tannin. Heutzutage wird sie jedoch in vielen Weinbauregionen der Welt angebaut, darunter Neuseeland, Chile, Südafrika, Australien, den USA und Italien. Sauvignon Blanc ist bekannt für ihre frischen und fruchtigen Aromen, die oft Noten von Zitrusfrüchten (Grapefruit, Limette und Zitrone), tropischen Früchten (Ananas und Passionsfrucht), aber vor allem grünen Früchten (grüner Apfel und Stachelbeere) und frischen Kräutern (Gras, Minze und Brennnessel) umfassen können. Sauvignon Blanc-Weine haben oft eine lebendige Säure, die zu ihrer Frische und Trinkbarkeit beiträgt. Diese Säure ermöglicht auch, dass die Weine gut altern können. Die Rebsorte wird oft als sortenreiner Wein angeboten, kann aber auch in Cuvées verwendet werden. In Folge #47 verkosten wir einen Weißwein aus Südtirol, der mit seinem großen Bruder Quarz sehr gut mithalten kann: den Winkl Sauvignon Blanc DOC 2022 von der @cantinaterlano Link zur Folge in Bio. 🎧🎙️ ~~~ Der Sauvignon Winkl DOC gilt als der berühmteste Sauvignon Blanc aus Südtirol. Dass Sauvignon überhaupt eine so anerkannte Rebsorte in Südtirol wurde, ist der Verdienst der Kellerei Terlan, die Sauvignon bereits seit 1956 sortenrein vinifiziert. Die Rebsorte wächst im Terlaner DOC-Gebiet rund um die ältesten Gutshöfe, dessen Terroir von kalkhaltigen Böden und einem kühlen Klima geprägt ist, was dem Wein seinen einzigartigen Charakter verleiht. Der elegante und vielschichtige Wein präsentiert sich im Glas in leuchtendem Strohgelb mit dezent grünem Schimmer. In der Nase bietet er fruchtbetonte Aromen von Aprikosen, Mandarinen und Passionsfrucht, aber auch Holunderblüten, sowie grüne Noten von Stachelbeere, nassem Gras und Minze. Er besticht mit seiner lebendigen Säure und der mineralischen Struktur, die ihm Frische und Langlebigkeit verleiht. Dabei hat er eine gute Balance zwischen Fruchtigkeit und Säure. Er kann jung getrunken werden, entwickelt jedoch mit der Zeit komplexe Aromen und eine reichhaltigere Textur. Er eignet sich hervorragendes als Aperitif, aber auch als Speisebegleiter macht er eine gute Figur. Weekend wines and pairings.🍷🍽️ I placed an order with DeLaurenti and had it delivered. 🍝 Fresh pasta was paired with Il Negrese Gutturnio Frizzante, a fizzy red wine. 🇮🇹 From Emilia-Romagna, Italy. 🍇 Grapes include Barbera and Bonarda. 😋 This wine is a super quaffable easy drinker. 🐾 Swipe to see what Baron thinks! You know I love a good Lambrusco! This is one, Lini 910 Labrusco, I used to sell back at my first wine job in a shop. 🍕 Paired with pizza using DeLaurenti’s dough. It’s frozen, so just leave it out to thaw then roll it out and add toppings. Barbecue sauce, pepperoni, and smoked cheddar for the hubby. For me, I made a riff on pesto with garlic, spinach, 🍋 lemon, and pistachios and combined it with fresh mozzarella. 🥣 Last night I incorporated the butternut squash ravioli in an easy pumpkin soup made with sauteed leeks, marsala, and pumpkin. So easy and tasty! Since this is perfect soup weather, I’m thinking about incorporating those Rancho Gordo lentils into Mulligatawny. We all know blind tasting is the best way to improve your palate but three things stand in the way – it can be costly, it takes up time, and it can be intimidating. This blind tasting exercise removes all of these obstacles! Come and train your palate with the guidance of your hosts Sommeliers Australia’s Gill Sykes (WSET Educator, Melbourne Wine House) and Noah Rozenfeld (CMS Advanced Sommelier, NOMAD). At the conclusion of each bracket, your hosts will give a short summary on the key pointers for the tasting of the wine, and how to get to the correct conclusions. Four wines – two whites and two reds – will be tasted. Wines are chosen primarily for their typicity and are a mixed bag of varieties, origins, quality and price points. Suitable for anyone in the industry wanting to practice blind tasting in a structured way, and would also benefit those studying all levels of WSET and CMS. What does it mean when a wine is sustainable? 🤷🏻♀️ As the saying goes, it's complicated. 📕 Thankfully, there's a book available that tells the stories of properties where draft horses work the vineyards, marmots help fertilize the vines, and exciting varieties like Mourvèdre, Gruner Veltliner, and Zweigelt grow without synthetic herbicides. 🍇 That book is the Slow Wine Guide USA and it aims to help wine lovers identify eco-friendly wines.
