I’ll always remember this moment on our drive home from Oregon to Northern California. I was a novice photographer with wide eyes, so no criticism please. I had to stop on the side of the highway for a pic. (Irritated husband not pictured 😂, wait we weren’t married yet) The fires were bad here the year before and they caught this orchard but didn’t destroy it. The Lupine brought life to the once fruitful orchards, bringing a spark of light after devastation. An affectionate callback to classic horror comedies of the ‘80s, Lisa Frankenstein is a charming movie with a fun and different performance by lead actress Kathryn Newton. I like the visual style, especially with the outfits. Everything in the movie is above average, but no single aspect excels. It’s pretty funny but not hilarious. The horror elements are fun but very mild. Overall, there are a few memorable moments within an overall enjoyable story. All Christians, young or old, must learn the absolute necessity of fellowship with Jesus each day. This lesson is not always taught at the beginning of the Christian life. The grace we have received of the forgiveness of sins and of joy in the Holy Spirit can only be preserved by daily renewal in fellowship with Jesus Christ Himself. Many Christians backslide because this truth is not clearly taught. Some are unable to stand against temptation or their old nature. Though they strive to do their best to fight against sin and to serve God, they have no strength. They have never really grasped the secret that the Lord Jesus will continue His work in the believer every day from heaven. But there is one condition: Time alone with the Lord Jesus each day is the indispensable condition of growth and power. Read Matthew 11:25–30. Listen to Christ’s words: “Come to me...and I will give you rest.... Let me teach you...and you will find rest for your souls.” … This applies not only to young Christians but to all who love the Lord. For the believer, taking time each day with God’s Word and in prayer is indispensable. Each day, we need to wait upon God for His presence and His love to be revealed. It is not enough at conversion to accept forgiveness of sins or even to surrender to God. That is only a beginning. We must understand that we have no power on our own to maintain our spiritual life. We need to receive new grace daily from heaven through fellowship with the Lord Jesus. This cannot be obtained by a hasty prayer or a superficial reading of a few verses from God’s Word. We must take time to come into God’s presence, to feel our weakness and our need, and to wait on God through His Holy Spirit to renew our fellowship with Him. Then we may expect to be kept by the power of Christ throughout the day. It is my aim to help Christians see the absolute necessity of spending time with the Lord Jesus. Without this, the joy and power of God’s Holy Spirit in daily life cannot be experienced. Our culture worships the self. The idolatry of our modern age is humanism. It’s all about you. Live your best life. You do you. Secular humanism teaches that truth is found by looking inward and connecting with your authentic self. We are so accustomed to thinking like this that we don’t even recognize this as a form of idolatry. While many Christians reject the obvious “me-ism” of our culture, we are less aware of how we blend godliness with the god of self. The statement, “God wants you to love yourself” is a prime example. There is no verse or passage in the Bible that tells you to work on loving yourself. … The Bible explicitly and clearly warns us about self-love. In Romans 1 and 2 Timothy 3, Paul describes a pagan culture in which people will be “lovers of themselves.” Rather than loving ourselves, Jesus challenges us to deny ourselves and to lose our lives that we might find them. This isn’t about cultivating self-loathing. Instead, it’s about cultivating a posture of beholding God and being so focused on Him that we cease to be our own obsession. The life of a Christian is supposed to mean crucifying the self so that Christ can reign within us. We live not for ourselves, but for the glory of God. Paul meant it when he wrote, “I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.” … Friend, you need to embrace the bad news of your brokenness and helplessness before God in order to be able to accept the good news of the Gospel. 4 YEARS!!!! Never would I have thought something like this would happen. And it has taken its toll over the years. Life may look the same because I can walk around just fine now but it has changed so drastically from before. And it has taken some time getting used to. I've had to change so many things in my life. And when you are so used to doing certain things that you love....giving them up can be oh so hard. Well new milestone reached. 1st ever miniMarathon completed. I may have walked and trundled the whole way but it was SO much fun. Definitely a tradition to stay!! Thanks Kentucky Derby Marathon for the opportunity. Sour Grapes ------‐---------------- Grapevines are such a rollercoaster of lure. The way they move every which way through lattices, around posts, up fences, etc. Along those vines these elegant blossoms emerge and form into lucious sweet grapes. Sometimes on those grapevines though we experience a sour grape. Sometimes it may not just be one sour grape but a string of them. We nurture and care for this fruit plant everyday but still something goes wrong along the way regardless of the effort we put into it. We can choose to give up and neglect this plant because "who cares anymore right?". Or we can appreciate the bittersweetness of these grapes. The bitterness being the hardships experienced but the sweetness being the lessons learned. Because if we choose to not give up and keep trying something truly beautiful will emerge. A bountiful harvest for years and years to come. This definitely was not the sourest grape I've come across along my journey of life. And honestly probably won't be the last. But I'll be damned if this grape plant ever gets neglected again. Grief, the actual never ending story… I was reflecting about my life this morning and was slingshot into thinking about my Grandma Allen. The only thing she loved more than a McDonald’s Menthol, was her family. She didn’t just love her family, she lived and breathed it too. When we were with grandma, we felt acknowledged and safe. Always. Something I wish my kids could have experienced with her too. It’s certainly something they’re getting from their own grandparents but today, I grieved that my Grandma Allen never had the opportunity to hold a great grandchild. I can vision how much this would have lit her up. Grief isn’t going away. If you’re trying to wait it out, then I recommend you start getting your affairs in order because your life will end before grief does. Give it some space, allow for the hardship to enter, and embrace their presence when the hardship starts to fade again. Jer ❤️
