Asking for help I am in the process of writing a book on how art helped me through my trauma and today I totally hit a wall in my writing. I asked my inner guidance to give me a sign and went out for a walk around town, I found this book in a charity shop... Clarity.. The main premise of the book is that most people live thier life "outside in" , constantly looking for things that will make them feel or think differently. The author( Jamie Smart) argues that we all have a natural innate ability to find our own "clarity" if we listen from "inside out". Today I found myself feeling deeply bad. Feeling jealous of other people, who in my mind are further along. Feeling just so bad about myself and like the biggest idiot on this planet. Yes, I have these days. I have them on a regular basis. They just come up. With no real reason. Or at least none that is obvious. But as I sat there working on the laptop, I realized that not long ago, I didn’t even notice when I felt miserable. It felt so very normal back then. Interesting. Happy Friday all! I know I’ve been a little quiet on here of late. I’ve been moving through some big life changes recently and really feeling the pull of stillness and rest and bedding down as we move through the winter. The stresses and uncertainties of this year has really took its toll on my body with many fibro flare ups so with a deep exhale I begin to journey deeper inwards and deepening my self care practices to ease my nervous system. ✨Gentle movement ✨Breathwork ✨Cold water immersion ✨Staying connected ✨Listening to what my body needs ✨Nourishing food I’m so grateful to have these beautiful tools in my tool box! We can easily get caught up with the busyness of life especially this time of the year but with these self care practices we can bring in stillness into our lives at a time when we really need it! 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐠 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭: 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐔𝐑𝐄 𝐎𝐅 𝐄𝐀𝐕𝐄𝐒𝐃𝐑𝐎𝐏𝐏𝐈𝐍𝐆 The rain is pounding on the cobblestones on this early morning here in São Vicente on the island of Madeira. The farm dogs are curled up on the mat outside the patio door to our bedroom, hopeful that we will let them in - but we have been told that they must stay outside. The crowing rooster on the neighbouring property sounds faint, probably because he is hunkering down in his coop, my husband laughingly remarks. This is the second time on our travels that we have had a weather warning, heavy precipitation today with possible thunderstorms. I expect we will be building a fire today and settling in with books and maybe a new series to binge on Prime Video. We have had a lot of rain these last 10 days, but that hasn’t hampered our enjoyment of discovering new places. It has meant more time spent inside - wandering through museums, a drink in a bar, dinner on a covered terrace, and indulging in drawn out breakfasts at some of the hotels we have stayed at. And, being in such close proximity to strangers, I have been able to indulge in one of my favourite pastimes - eavesdropping! My husband does not understand this fascination. I explain that I am not nosy but rather curious about the lives of others. Oh, I know, a blurred distinction perhaps, but as I am not the only one who enjoys this activity - and now that I know eavesdropping benefits my mental health - I am embracing the opportunity! So this week, I am sharing tidbits from my eavesdropping and some research about why eavesdropping is good for your health.

I’m still feeling the joy and thrill of collaborating with @idaliasautto from @pitzileinbooks on our new Zine MUY BIEN. . The Zine is a collection of things that were said around us which we over heard or that came up in conversation between us that made us laugh or summarized how we felt in that moment and then everything in between. It’s a steaming list of text. But we realized it might not have the same impact on the reader so we wrote footnotes for many of the statements; AVG and ISF 💜 It’s a lovely collection of moments and times shared . . In what we realized is both our working styles, we bound all of the books late at night before Idalia flew back to CDMX at the crack of dawn (she had to get up at 4!) the next morning! Right now, it’s very difficult for any of us to feel anything but debilitating fear, excruciating heartbreak, and extreme outrage. Still, consciously leaning into internally recalibrating your system to alchemize these feelings into love, compassion, and courage is essential for ourselves, our families, communities, and the world. You’ll hear me sharing a lot about teaching yourself the importance of rewiring your brain to take in the positive without shoving down but rather releasing the more harmful feelings. This is one of the most important and life-changing practices to integrate into your life. It’s a go-to exercise that I call “seal in the feel” and include in all workshops and one of the first experiments I introduce to coaching clients. It’s also one of the most challenging, especially right now. As @rickhansonphd puts it, “Our brains are velcro for the negative and Teflon for the positive.” That is, until we practice becoming self-aware enough to catch our thoughts, notice what they are how we’re feeling from them, and then choose to think a higher feeling thought from there. (Not necessarily positive; higher can mean more supportive and relieving, too.) And then, most importantly, ACT from that place. This has been proven to decrease feelings of despair and hopelessness and increase feelings of hope, connection, and interdependence. We get there by consciously noticing the moments in our lives that create a feeling of joy, gratitude, peace, love, and inspiration and then give them space to stay and dwell in them. This can be done in minutes and profoundly affects your mental and physical health. Throw a ♥️ below if you’re willing to give this a shot. There are three main methods of auscultation – with a Pinard stethoscope, using a Doppler, or using electronic fetal heart rate monitoring. 👂 Both national and international guidelines recommend that for low risk women and birthing people intermittent auscultation is used throughout active labour. 👂 According to NICE (2017) during the first stage of labour, we should carry out intermittent auscultation at least every 15 minutes. Auscultation should happen immediately after a contraction and last for at least 1 minute. 👂 During the second stage of labour, this increases to at least every 5 minutes. Additionally, we should palpate the woman's pulse every 15 minutes to ensure we're differentiating between the two (or more) heartbeats.
