🔑🙌No surprise here! Menopause, a reputable medical journal, in April 2024, published this small study showing that #postmenopausal women that used hormone replacement therapy (aka HRT or MHT) plus semaglutide vs those who used semaglutide alone, had greater weight loss than those who did not. #Estrogen therapy can help with a decrease in visceral fat or that stubborn midsection weight gain when combined with muscle building via strength training and proper nutrition (protein and fiber intake need to be adequate). . . 🙈With menopause, and age, there is change in your fat metabolism and insulin resistance. Both of these need to improve in order to fight this type of fat. It’s not simply caloric deficit. Inform yourself and realize not all of your medical providers are well-versed in hormones and the menopause transition or nutrition in general. . . It is a team approach and I recommend working with ✅a personal trainer ✅a nutritionist ✅an endocrinologist who is a specialist in the GLP-1 or incretin medications - such as an obesity board-certified doctor ✅A menopause specialist. Great advice for Dr. Kunal Sood. 💠 No one else can truly understand the nature of your own physical pain. It may feel as if you've tried everything under the sun (and in the medicine cabinet) to alleviate it. 💠 It's worth a try to incorporate some of these whole food options and give it several weeks to a month to really assess the difference. 💠 Dr. Wayne Jonas has five more suggestions: 1. Beans, nuts, seeds, and plant foods that have a pod, such as peas: black beans, kidney beans, garbanzos (also called chickpeas), white beans (also called navy beans or cannellini beans), hummus, nuts, and seeds. 2. Fruits: berries, pomegranates, and cherries. Dark-colored fruits are especially good for preventing inflammation. 3. Vegetables: yellow, orange, and red peppers and tomatoes. Spinach, chard, kale, leaf lettuce, romaine lettuce, arugula (rocket or roquette), and mixed greens, especially dark, leafy greens. Purple and green cabbage, onions, garlic, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and cauliflower. Radishes, cucumbers, green beans, and green onions. 4. Olive oil: Use this instead of butter and other oils for cooking foods, when possible. You can use flavored or extra virgin olive oil in dips and dressings. 5. If you're looking for a menopause supplement that actually works, my advice is don't bother until you've looked at your diet and lifestyle. I’m sorry if that’s not the answer you were looking for, but it’s certainly understandable given that is how our healthcare system works. We’re used to thinking ‘what can I take?’ instead of what can I do? If you like many people don't think nutrition and lifestyle changes can work, ask yourself this - why do most Japanese women not suffer from hot flushes? I often recommend supplements to my clients, especially as a short-term measure for symptom relief, whilst changes have time to kick in, however here’s why they won’t work in isolation:- 🩹 Taking supplements is like putting a sticking plaster on symptoms if you’re not addressing the underlying cause[s] driving them. 💎 We are all unique and different. Taking the same supplement that worked for your friend Janet, doesn't mean it’ll work for you. No two women's bodies are the same! 💀 Not all supplements are made equal. Stocking up on High Street buy-1-get-1 free pills you “think” you need, may be doing your body more harm than good. The High Street is notorious for selling supplements that contain fillers, emulsifiers and VERY little of the actual active ingredient you need. 📜 Self -prescribing yourself supplements you think you need can not only be dangerous, but mixing the wrong supplements together [or even worse with prescription medication] could be having the opposite effect. Don’t fall for empty promises and quick fixes. Supplements can be part of the puzzle, however I strongly recommend you save your precious pennies and look at the diet and lifestyle factors first!

😬I’ll cut to the chase here. . . 1) Your doctor or provider probably doesn’t have any menopause knowledge i.e. you’re at the wrong type of doctor’s office. (How to find the right menopause provider is an entirely different animal and challenge.) 2) Or, you’re trying to talk about your hormonal concerns at an annual wellness visit where the focus is preventative care and not on your problems. . . #Menopause and #perimenopause concerns are highly specialized and also require a lot of in-depth questioning. In my opinion, it requires at least 30 minutes to adequately address. Most people do not understand, especially if they’re using insurance, and they did not schedule the appointment for menopausal concerns that it is, basically an afterthought. . . 💚💛💙TIP: Schedule your appointment appropriately and ask for a separate appointment from your annual GYN wellness exam. (I.e. your Pap smear and mammogram type exam.). Also, don’t be afraid of seeing a primary OB/GYN for your annual care and then having a menopause specialist secondarily. That’s completely fine and suggested as well.
