Wong Kar-Wai is one of the most acclaimed directors to have come out of the Hong Kong second wave film movement of the late 20th century. With characteristics, like an affinity with the 1960s and an influence from western filmmaking and culture, Wong’s films embody the aesthetic and interior meanings of this movement. Wong’s career as a director began in 1988 with As Tears Go By, and from that moment he carried on exploring themes surrounding isolation, human relationships, and life in (primarily) Hong Kong, until his most recent film The Grandmaster (2013). His films could reasonably be classified in an individual genre, as his filming techniques and poetic dialogue are so unique to his films, that they are unmistakably his. Some of his most notable stylistic features are; wide angle lenses, hand-held camera work, neon lighting, and use of slow motion. Despite being an extremely aesthetic director, his films are in no way style over substance, he has perfected the use of stylistic trademarks to convey interior themes and meanings into his films - With his films tending to be driven by his characters’ thoughts instead of action or plot. Garcia ⏳ 1h 39m IMDb : 7.6 15+ 🇬🇧 This Hong Kong-set crime drama follows the lives of a hitman, hoping to get out of the business, and his elusive female partner. It’s a mystery to me why people like this movie. I got fooled by the high ratings again. I guess I must be the only one with a different taste for good movies when I read the reviews. I was a little bit bored with movie . The acting is average, the story, is non-existant as there is no story. Interesting camera work ; stunning, with so many effects and shots - the neon lights, reflections, colors. I mean, just wish the story and feelings had been as profound as the cinematography. Not fell in love but its ok . I was fascinated by two scenes in the movie, the first one is motorcycle scene (also we watched one at Leos Carax’s Annette (2021) and I think I wasn’t the only one who was impressed), the green lights, the tunnel, and the speed. And the second scene is the : First love monologue in the cafe. Soundtrack was so good 🔝 🇹🇷 Hong Kong’da geçen bu suç draması, işten kurtulmayı uman bir tetikçinin ve onun zor kadın ortağının hayatlarına odaklanan bir film. İnsanların bu filmi neden sevdiği benim için bir gizem. Yine yüksek reytinglere aldandım sanırım. İncelemeleri okuduğumda iyi filmler için farklı bir zevke sahip olan tek kişi ben olmalıyım. Filmden biraz sıkıldım. Oyunculuk ortalama, filmin konusunun orjinal bulmadım. Açıkçası sinematografi daha ilgi çekiciydi ve bence filmi izlenir kılmış ; Neon ışıklar, yansımalar, renkler gibi pek çok efekt var. Demek istediğim, keşke hikaye ve duygular sinematografi kadar derin olsaydı. ***Filme bayılmadım ama izlenir. Filmdeki iki sahne beni büyüledi, ilki motosiklet sahnesi (ki benzerini en son Leos Carax’ın Annette (2021) filminde izledik belli ki tek etkilenen ben değilmişim 🙂) yeşil ışıklar, tünel, ve hız. İkinci sahne de kafedeki ilk aşk monologudur.
