🧡 Immersive experience 💚 Having the treat of being part of the elite start at the @vienna_city_marathon was a huge treat to me. ☺️❤️ and I loved every moment of it! It was a moment of learning. Seeing and experiencing what elite marathon runners do and go through before and after a race. I was the pre-last on the elite list but probably the happiest about being there 🥹. And so I got spoiled by having my own bottles throughout the race, having one at every 5km 💦. I am not saying I always found mine 😅😂 or that I could found it at all 🤣 but just the simple idea of having them was pretty cool 😎. Last year I run with my flasks in my hand 😂 and probably I was much better hydrated. My mother came with me to Vienna ❤️. She was already with me at some of the big races as she helped me to look after my daughters 👧👧. So she was with me at @transgrancanaria in 2022 and at @wser in 2023. This was her first marathon experience, where she was waiting me at the finish line 🏁. So it was the first time that she saw people collapsing at the end. She didn’t see this at big ultras and she couldn’t make a sense of it. Her question is a bit the essence of what pulls apart road running from trails. She asked why do people collapse after a marathon while they don’t after a 100 mile race? - absolutely legitimate question. The best way to reply is to experience it 😅. If not, I would try to explain by saying that the speed ( whatever this means..) consumes you in a marathon. In a trail running race there is so much variety (up, down and flat) that the pace is constantly changing and also the way how you use your 🫁 and 🦵. 📔@vienna_city_marathon 💬 😎 - The lead up for this marathon was not as straightforward as last year. I got a flu just before the @nagoya_gowomen half marathon in early March and that was followed by a little injury. This happened a week after I defended my Ph.D. and I do think my body responded to the exhaustion that came from the exam. The good thing in this low moment was is that at one point you need to wake up, shake up yourself and make a decision: this won’t hold me back or break me down. So I did, and so after that I had to catch up with the training in humid conditions that Hong Kong has. It was challenging but the last two weeks of the training went very well. Looking back I prefer to finish the training block well and have that niggle in the middle then the other way around. And so… the biggest question before this race was mental. What I believe I can do and do I dare to go for it? 🤷♀️ - I did dare. I do not think I was too fast at the beginning, that was just right. What I do think is that next time I want to keep that pace till the very end 🧜🏻♀️. It sounds a simple goal even though it’s not an easy task. Final week of the training done! Been fiddling around with different bottoms to wear ahead of London, and I decided to go along with a more conventional shorts since the Nedao I had purchased was a little tight. Having talked to so many of my fellow RDRC runners, the T8 Sherpa Shorts was certainly in my mind, and I decided to go try that and I am very impressed w the comfort! Thanks to the team at RDRC for ordering in this pair for me before London, I'm also really loving the added team prints! Loved that the shorts was very smooth and easy on the skin, and didn’t really feel much heavier after it got soaked during the run. The only small issue was that I had to now put my phone in the front rather than at the back since it was still bouncing around😳 and it almost flipped itself out of the pocket . Felt decently good during this last tapered long run - good pace, aided by the good weather and just confidence in the ability to deliver. Backpacked thru #Pisgah & stayed atop Firefly mountain. A 2 week trek that ended the next night with Wisemans View, at the top of Linville Gorge just as the sun was goin down to see the "Brown Mountain Lights" on a full "Wolf" moon. My 2nd Marathon, A sub-4 finish! It was 2022 when I finished my 1st marathon on Asics Rock n Roll Run (5:51 quite disappointing), I told myself that I would run a marathon again with a better time, a sub-4 at least. 2023 came, and I was assigned around Taguig City. Back then, I used to run along BGC with known run clubs like ARC, GRC, and AR Manila. Fortunately, upon scanning one of the run club pages, I saw a link about the @tbrdream Marathon. After minutes of reading about the event, I joined, however, I was only on the waiting list but with God’s grace, I got a slot and the rest is history. To make the story short, it was 6 months of love-and-hate of running (5x a week - 2 easy runs, 2 speed runs, and LSD) even during holidays and the festive season. I wanna thank all the people I’ve crossed with during this journey, you have touched my life in every possible way. To all the run clubs especially to my @rockwellrunclub continue inspiring and a home to all runners and aspirants. To my classmates @magtalasmultisport daghang salamat sa bolahan at panonorta, ito’y aking naging gasolina. 💫 The only thing I wanted to do on Sunday morning is to race 🏃🏽♀️💫 - I was to run my first XC race ever 😅. I had no idea what to expect, how to execute or what so ever 😂. The only thing I knew at the startline was that i was so excited to be there and see how it is going to be. Well… I’m not used to such short races 😅 so probably a bit miscalculated but overall I had so much fun 🤩. 5 loops ➰ on the golf ⛳️ course in Fanling meant a rather civilized XC race- not the muddy ones one would expect. Fun how focused I was on boosting self confidence and showing you how I do it and then today happened 🤷🏼♀️🫣 We had an amazing powder day and overall everyone was so excited. Then we tried a path, that I’ve never been on before. And if you scroll to the videos you see my breakdowns 😂 But instead of cheering myself for doing it, with every fall, I’d tell myself how bad I am and how I should never do it again, even though I had so much fun. All that negative self talk did not help. Here I’ve got some examples: 🫵🏽 why can’t I just do it? 🫵🏽 I can’t snowboard, 🫵🏽 I suck, 🫵🏽 everyone hates me, as they have to wait for me, again, 🫵🏽 I can’t turn, 🫵🏽 I should just take my board off and walk, Now looking back at the videos I see that I actually can snowboard and I shouldn’t have said all these bad things. But I’m a work in progress and I’m learning by doing. During the Elbrus expedition in 2023, I encountered my most challenging mental barriers. Coming off unsuccessful attempts at Lhotse and Makalu, I grappled with psychological fears of illness or mishaps during the climb. In moments like these, I retreat to solitude to confront the underlying issues. It became apparent that my unease stemmed from homesickness, marking the furthest I had traveled from home since 2019.
