You say freak, I say unique. ~Christian Baloga 🐻Do you know what tardigrades are? Often called water bears, they are microscopic aquatic animals with plump, segmented bodies and flattened heads. A bit like a 8-legged bear curled up in a duvet, you know? A sort of cousin of the hookah-smoking caterpillar from « Alice in Wonderland. » 🐻Though tardigrades are disarmingly cute, they are also nearly indestructible. They have been found in the deep sea, tropical rainforests, and the Antarctic. They’re able to survive extreme conditions – extreme temperatures, extreme pressure, air deprivation, radiation, dehydration and starvation. They can even survive in outer space. 🐻But you can also find them in the moss in your garden. And that’s exactly what we’re going to do today to conclude our study of microbiology. My husband is a bit scared, it reminds him of our blob study, which gave him nightmares full of strange creatures 😅 I still hope we find some, wish us luck! 🤞 What about you? If I was to give this arrangement a name I think it would be ‘flamenco’ 💃💃 The amazing Vovos tulip is like the frilly skirt and the Solomon’s Seal and honeysuckle vine is like the curved arms….or maybe I’ve watched too much @bbcstrictly? I find it interesting how certain flowers have a “moment” on insta and this year it seems to be the turn of the Vovos tulip….move over Belle Epoque (although I have planted some of them too). It is so exquisite that if I cut it, it is going to have to be for the right arrangement so just one in the middle of this bowl was 👌🏻. It is not a very tall tulip as you can see from the last picture but what it lacks in stature, it makes up for in va va voom!! Definitely one to add to your list for planting ready for next Spring. The last baby robin left the nest this week, and it has been a joy to have a front row seat to this amazing process. This week I am grateful for my best girl Daisy. She had a rough day this past week, but seems to be feeling a little more like herself the past few days. Cherishing every day we have with her. This week I am grateful for feeling good in my physical body. The past few months I have made it a priority to include more vegetables in my diet as an act of self-care. Endlich wieder Sonnenschein! Nach gefühlt niemals enden wollenden kalten Tagen, an denen ich unzählige Male frostempfindliche Pflanzen, vorgezogene Dahlien und frisch gekeimte Sämlinge erst rein und dann wieder rausgetragen habe. Wer braucht da noch eine Mitgliedschaft im Fitnessstudio? Gartenarbeit mit Trainingseffekt und klar - ab und zu auch Rückenschmerzen. Aber was tut man nicht alles für seine mühsam ausgesäten Schätze? All die Arbeit von einer einzigen frostigen Nacht zunichte gemacht? Dann doch lieber Muskelkater … Dieses Bild habe ich am 8. April aufgenommen. Inzwischen haben sich fast alle Tulpen verabschiedet, auch wenn das kalte Wetter der letzten Tage ihrem Verblühen noch einmal Aufschub gewährt hat. Aber so Vieles andere steht bereits in den Startlöchern: Pfingstrosen, Bartiris und sogar die ersten Rosenknospen zeigen Farbe. Träffat fina otroliga människor. Fått se fina platser, ätit otroligt god mat och dryck. GLAD🌴
The first reason that led us to homeschooling was the health of our family. The anxiety caused by school to each of us had become so deleterious, this new adventure came as a true breath of fresh air. This radical change in our lives enabled us not only to heal from years of daily battle, but also to think about how we could really take care of ourselves. The freedom to sleep and to enjoy nature as much as necessary, to eat more healthily, to learn our way, to take the time to understand how our bodies and brains work, finding out what suits us best, nourishing our happy hormones first, and to spent quality time together as a family, has been a real blessing. Homeschool life is not without its trials and tribulations, of course, and I know that we are sometimes far from our healthy habits ideals, but I’m glad that these little seeds have been planted, because I think that’s a part of learning that really counts. 🤍What are your favourite little daily gestures for taking care of yourself? 🌸Did you know? Emotions you might experience on a floral workshop here at Hamsey…. - ooooo look at all the flowers (this will continue on repeat, it is totally normal) - I can’t do this (but you can) - frustration with a stem that you want to bend up and yet for some reason it will only bend down - oooo look at all the flowers…how can I fit them all in this tiny bowl? - you will talk to the flowers “come on just move over a little bit” that kind of thing, this is also totally normal - there will be a point where you will think it will never look like you want it to, but it will - you won’t want to stop tinkering with the flowers in your arrangement - you will feel relaxed - when you do eventually stop playing with the flowers and look around at everyone else’s, they will all be completely different and you will like theirs more than yours….this is also perfectly normal - then you will look back at yours and smile because you created it and it is your flowery arrangement and you are proud of it - you will take your bowl of flowers home and pop it in pride of place and every time you look at it (or indeed a photo of it) it will make you smile What can I say, it is a rollercoaster🎢 but a fun one!!! I go through that thought process pretty much every time I create anything but the endorphins at the end and the joy it gives me are well worth it.
