Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé, Musigny at Christie’s from Le Gavroche….. . The apex of the portfolio at Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé is the 7.25 hectares of Musigny Grand Cru. Great care is taken with the production of the noble grape, with only the oldest vines — a total of 3.8 hectares — used to produce wine with the greatest consistency and depth. . In most vintages, only 900 or so cases of the Musigny comes to market; the result is a wine to be sought out and treasured. Former winemaker François Millet felt that the character of the wine was akin to that of a noble old gentleman: a cravat-wearing cognac-sipper, smoking a cigar as he holds forth on world affairs. Musigny is as sophisticated and serious as the image implies, with strong vintages suggesting a robe of rich cherry and raspberry fruit billowing over warm chocolate and a crème brûlée texture. Stellar vintages such as 2010 have an element of oriental spice — sumac, paprika and black pepper. . The 2012 vintage of #red #burgundy has been enigmatic. It has been so hard and closed down that we had concerns that, by the time the wines shed their tannins, the fruit will have dissipated. Thankfully, this tasting revealed that this will not be the case. These wines have loads of material. Although still tightly wound and structured, they all had beautiful noses & lots of fruit. The #comtedevogue was so big & powerful that we decanted. Though, when you stuck your nose in the glass, you knew it was #Musigny- it couldn't be anything else. A seductive, gorgeous wine with wonderful floral notes.The @_domainedelaromaneeconti #echezeaux was also stunning with lots of Asian spice and dark red fruit. Likewise, the @domaine_meo_camuzet #Closvougeot was beautiful with dark fruit and a sweet oak influence. Suffice it to say that these wines were NOT yet in their drinking windows, but you can now see their enormous potential. All had mega intensity & concentration. These are serious wines that will last 50 years, but they should enter their drinking window in perhaps another 5 & peak thereafter. Can't wait--they are #Grandcru in every sense. Cheers,

This trio of reds continued the theme of great bottles - all on point and showing the exceptional quality you’d expect from producers of this pedigree. Rousseau Chambertin 2008 in a great section of drinkability, so multi-layered, generous and beguiling in equal parts. Impeccable purity for those wondering 😉 DRC Echézèaux 2006 similarly complex and forthright, a little more space on the palate than the Rousseau, alluringly supple, plenty of fragrance and perfume. Opened up so fresh and vivid. Comte Georges de Vogüe Musigny 1982 a real contrast to the other two bottles here. Sure it’s a lot older, but the structure of this wine is such a contrast to the layering and spread of tannin in the Chambertin & Echézèaux. Instead this is a wine built on fine and dense tannin, stone-like on the palate, it’s almost impenetrable and yet it is silky on the surface. Contradictory really. Aromas and flavours running a full spectrum from florals through red and blue berries, spices, earth and an overall autumnal tone. Chambolle-Musigny é uma das 12 comunas vinícolas da Côte-d’Or, que adicionaram o nome de seu vinhedo mais conhecido ao nome original. Essa tendência começou em 1847, quando Gevrey solicitou com sucesso ao rei da França, a inclusão de Chambertin como estratégia de marketing para poder utilizar o nome da vinha mais famosa também como parte do nome de vinhos mais simples da mesma aldeia. Assim, Chambolle tornou-se Chambolle-Musigny em 1882. O nome da vila é uma appellation d’origine contrôlée (AOC) para vinho tinto com Pinot Noir como uva principal. Le Musigny é um terreno de 10,86 hectares explorado por nada menos que 10 produtores, tais como Comte Georges de Vogue, Georges Roumier, J.F. Mugnier, Joseph Drouhin, Leroy e Louis Jadot. É uma área reverenciada e descrita como “a rainha de toda a Borgonha” e “um punho de ferro em uma luva de veludo”. Fundado no século 16, La Pousse d’Or🇫🇷 fica em Volnay, 33km de Chambolle-Musigny e mais perto da linda Beaune🤗. Diz a lenda que os vinhos locais já eram conhecidos no século 4. No século 13, Filipe, “o Temerário”, proibiu a variedade Gamay em favor do Pinot para garantir a melhor qualidade dos vinhos. Mais tarde, o duque Eudes ofereceu ao neto Filipe 6 de Valois, 72 barris de Volnay, que foram enviados à corte real.
