Dull Saturday morning visit to Sizergh Castle. It’s a National Trust property. It’s not actually a castle, but a medieval house with gardens. 🚗LA8 8DZ.. car park fee and entrance fee, unless obv you are a NT member. There a garden, house, cafe, shop, toilets, play area, ponds, book shop and trails around the estate. There a spring bird challenge on at the min. We didn’t go in the house. The gardens will probably be more colourful in the summer, however it was a pleasant day out. Not the largest or the nicest National trust places we’ve been to so far though. Have you been? One of the advantages of being on the road with the shows is getting to pop in to some wonderful @nationaltrust properties - like this week when we got to see spring in full bloom at @cliveden_national_trust and enjoy the gardens. This week we visited Speke Hall for the first time and had a brilliant afternoon. We actually ended up signing up as National Trust members. It costs £13.25 a month for a family and this gives you free access to all National Trust locations for a year 📍The Walk, Speke, Liverpool L24 1XD 💵 A standard adult ticket is £12.00 for grounds only and £17.00 for the house and grounds. Children are £6.00 for grounds only and £8.50 for the house and the grounds. Under 5s are free. Other ticket types are available 🛍 It is also only 5 minutes from New Mersey Shopping Park which has plenty of shops, restaurants and entertainment centres including Cineworld, Ninja Warrior and Hollywood Bowl ✈️ It is situated very near to Liverpool Airport therefore there are planes frequently flying overhead 👨👩👧👧 It is a great day out for all the family and dogs are allowed in most areas. There is plenty to do including; 1. A team room and restaurant 2. Lovely walks and plenty of open space 3. An outdoor children's park 4. A good size maze 5. The Giant Childe of Hale play trail 6. An outdoor woodland play area 7. Ice cream stall 8. Speke Hall - a beautiful Tudor manor 9. The stunning gardens 10. Free parking 11. Picnic benches and outdoor seating 12. I’ve been thinking about artistic ways of expressing the value of wild flora and fauna in my upcoming film about @lewesrailwayland and there’s so much to be inspired by at @standennt! Stepping out of the rain and inside the house today I was struck by this gorgeous William Morris wool curtain designed in 1878, which became one of his own favourites after studying the details of real birds before trying to incorporate them into the work. It’s also fascinating to follow the artistic journey of a design and I especially like the medieval influence in Morris’s work. I love the idea of a treasure chest! This silver one was displayed in a room all by itself at Standen House, under a direct light which really drew the eye and made you want to peep inside 👀🙂

Today we were rather busy exploring Birmingham’s Victorian social past through visiting the Back to Backs and Coffin Works! The tour of the Back to Backs was really insightful and illustrates just how communities were able to live in these houses through 120 years of history. After that we headed to Coffin Works and walked around an old factory which showed the process of making coffin furniture.
