Come and visit us to learn more about the contribution of women to Nottingham's history, and see how you can get involved. 🔥 A word from the group: Nottingham Women's History Group was started back in the 1980s with the aim of rescuing women from obscurity and telling their stories. The group was reconstituted in January 2010 when it pledged to celebrate, promote and research the contribution of women to Nottingham’s history. Some of the things we do to facilitate this include giving talks, leading walks, producing publications, helping to raise plaques to women and organising visits to places such as the Nottinghamshire Archives and the Lace and Textile Collection at Newstead Abbey. ✨️ current library books ✨️ To be honest, some of these have been issued to my account for a couple of weeks, but I accumulated The Winter Spirits a week or so ago and realised I have too many books out for my own good right now. I am currently reading The Winter Spirits because it has a big hold queue so I can't renew, and I am hoping to get on to A Short History or Queer Women by Kirsty Loehr after that! I have still got Jujutsu Kaisen vol. 2 out as I want to find out what happened at the end of vol. 1 - I read vol. 1 last month to complete a prompt for my StoryGraph genre challenge ✨️ I took out The Secret Life of the Owl when a colleague showed it to me at work and I instantly just wanted to read it there and then. I still havent gotten round to it but I am sure I will eventually! And finally, The Lesbiana's Guide to Catholic School has been on my list for *ages* I could have sworn it was staring at me every time I walked past it at work... so I gave in and took it out! I am so excited to start reading this soon! What a brilliant session yesterday! We had such a lovely time crafting memory boxes at #nottinghamcentrallibrary as part of the Fifty years of #middlestreetresourcecentre project by #nottinghamtrentuniversity - there’s so much artwork we will need another post or two! 🔸 We love workshops like these, it’s a joy to see people spend time choosing their favourite elements from our paper treasure collection and then get creative with the resources. Watching people relax into their flow is actual magic. 🔸 One of the lovely things about the session yesterday was how friendly and supportive everyone was to each other, chatting away and sharing ideas. We had a lot of feedback about the inter generational aspect of the group, we couldn’t agree more! 🔸 The library was bustling with such a lovely atmosphere. If you are local to Nottingham and haven’t yet been, do pop along and have a look, there’s so much on offer! Remember to take a little time for you and your creativity this coming week. A wonderful morning spent at the new Central Library on Carrington Street, Nottingham. A huge thank you to the staff there for making class 2/3 thoroughly welcome, being super-friendly, and fountains of knowledge- as they were asked every question under the sun - from books about chickens to Robin Hood. We accessed books in mother-tongues, huge copies of books to be read and shared in class, in fact, everything we asked for... either appeared or was sign-posted. What truly brilliant customer service!! Current reads and life updates! As some of you may have seen on my stories, my hold for Yellowface came into my local library recently! I am 3 chapters in and it is really good! It's such a fast-paced read and really grips you from the get-go. Very much enjoying so far! Alongside my library book in the picture, is a tote bag from the new Nottingham Central Library which I am so unbelievably lucky enough to work in. I wasn't scheduled to work the opening day, but went as a member of the public to watch the opening. I almost cried - my heart so full of joy! As a librarian and an avid library enthusiast, libraries mean so much to me and it brings me so much joy and happiness to share such an incredible public library with Nottingham. The space is incredible, with such a vast scope of books, information, technology, community spaces, events... the list goes on. Please visit your local libraries - they are more relevant than you think and are pillars of the communities in which they serve.
