Sur la route on avait vu des camions avec écrit "road train", en arrivant sur la highway, on a compris le nom... Un camion à 3 ou 4 remorques lancé à 130 km/h, ça décoiffe ! Adelaide River a été un point clé lors de la seconde guerre mondiale car les QG s'y sont positionnés afin de lutter contre les attaques japonaises. On apprend aussi que de nombreux aborigènes ont défendu le pays pendant les 2 guerres alors qu'à l'époque on leur avait supprimé leurs terres, interdit le droit de vote, etc... Malheureusement on ne peut que constater qu'aujourd'hui encore il y a une grande disparité entre les natifs et les blancs. 🇬🇧 A day with giant termite mounds, palm trees and we arrive at Adelaide River. On the road we saw trucks with "road train" written on them, when we arrived on the highway, we understood why... A truck with 3 or 4 trailers going at 130 km/h, that's mind-blowing! Adelaide River was a key point during World War II because the headquarters were positioned there to fight against Japanese attacks. We also learn that many aborigines defended the country during the two world wars even though at the time their lands had been taken away, they were forbidden to vote, etc... Under the moon’s glow, a steaming hot soup filled our bellies before we set off on the 22 km Giles Track, a stretch along the George Gill Range. The really cold night gave way to a warm sunrise, heating us up as we start to walk. We spotted tiny creatures, flower, and took a few wrong turns, but never lost hope. Install to the right🙏 Emu Dreaming by the talented, Margaret Gallagher🙂This Jukurrpa tells the story of a ‘yankirri’ (emu) and a ‘wardilyka’ (bush turkey). ‘Yankirri’ lived at a soakage to the west called Warnirripanu (or Walangkamirirri), while ‘wardilyka’ lived at a soakage to the east called Parirri. The emu and bush turkey used to go around the country picking ‘yakajirri’ (bush raisins) and mashing them into ‘kapurdu’ (fruit balls) to save in their nests for later. However, they were jealous of each other; the emu thought that the bush turkey was picking the best and juiciest ‘yakajirri’, and was leaving him with only the sour ‘yakajirri’. The emu went to the bush turkey’s nest to the east while the bush turkey was out hunting and smashed up the ‘kapurdu’ that the bush turkey had saved there. When the bush turkey returned, he found his smashed ‘yakajirri’ balls and realized that the emu had destroyed them. He went to the west to confront the emu and when he found him, they got into a big fight. The bush turkey eventually flew away to the north, leaving behind the smashed ‘yakajirri’ balls. This practice of making ‘kapurdu’ (fruit balls) is a traditional Warlpiri method of storing ‘yakajirri’; in the old days, people used to dry the ‘yakajirri’, grind them up with a rock in a coolamon, mix them with water and form balls from them, and cover the ‘kapurdu’ with red ochre so they would keep. Today at Ngarlikirlangu we can see round, red rocks which are the ‘kapurdu’ that the emu smashed up. There is also a dance for this ‘yankirri’ (emu) Jukurrpa that is performed during mens’ initiation ceremonies. A number of other Jukurrpa are also located at Ngarlikirlangu, including ‘wardilyka Jukurrpa’ (bush turkey Dreaming), ‘yardijiinypa Jukurrpa’ (meat ant Dreaming), and ‘pirntina Jukurrpa’ (woma or Ramsay’s python Dreaming). Following on from my post earlier this week, a lot of you are fellow photographers - it’s so nice to be able to share my passion with everyone 😀 Below are 5 tips for beginner landscape photographers (using 5 different photographs of Nightcliff Jetty to try and show how important composition is - even though this is the same place, these are 5 very different images using different angles and different conditions to create something unique!) 1. Remember, gear isn’t everything! A better camera won’t make you instantly produce “better” photos. Practice, time and learning will! The equipment is just a tool. 2. If you do want to add new gear to help improve your images, a tripod is the most essential piece of kit for a landscape photographer (after the camera, of course!) 3. Composition is key. Yes, the settings and technicals are important in creating a high quality image, but a great shot starts with the winning composition. 4. Move yourself! Interesting foregrounds are found by getting low. Unusual angles and different views are found by walking around or up a hill or away from the people… Strong images draw you in, frame your shot and pay attention to what you’re framing! 5. Slow down. Observe. Watch for movement or changes in light. Do you really want that litter in the middle of the beach?! Do you need to wait for people to move or the wave to wash higher…. or the cloud to move!? . Kapi is Sacred - The most reliable of all kapi (water) is this one at the base of Uluru. In traditional times Anangu would sing out ‘Kuka kuka’ and Wanampi would release the kapi and let it flow into the waterhole. Hard to imagine from a distance this water and lush nature with its deep sense of peace at the base of Uluru and the subsequent dependence of the local Anangu people—an Aboriginal group of the Western Desert—on the resources in the past and now still held so scared. Day 11- Devils Marbles/ Karlu Karlu these bolders are situated all across this sacred site in the Northern Territory. They formed 1700 million years ago 😳🤯 Molten magma squeezed through sandstones of the earth’s crust and cooled into hard granite rock. The Devils Marbles Granite. On commence par le point de vue sur les 2 cascades Tjaetaba falls et Tolmer falls, puis on monte au marais de Tabletop swamp et on redescend vers plusieurs coins où la baignade est autorisée : Buley Rockhole et les chutes de Florence falls où on passe la nuit. Se mettre dans l'eau fait un bien fou ! 🇬🇧 A short cycling step to visit a few gems in the Litchfield National Park. We start with the view of the Tjaetaba Falls and Tolmer Falls, then we go up to the Tabletop Swamp and we go back down to several places where swimming is allowed: Buley Rockhole and Florence Falls where we spend the night.
