It's funny listening to the ongoing debates about manipulation in landscape photography 😂 As I've often explained in my captions, every photographic image is merely a representation not an accurate depiction of reality. Every photographer has their own opinion on how much manipulation is acceptable. A popular opinion doing the rounds is that photo manipulation is okay as long as the artist discloses that he did. This is sanctimonious trite and laughable! 🤣 Instagram won't allow captions that long. 📜 Besides it would make very boring reading if one tried 🥱 Am I being dishonest if i fail to disclose that I took today's photo with a focal length of 30mm because that is less real than if it was 400mm? Would it be deceptive unless I disclose that I captured it with a full-frame camera, not a crop-sensor one? That in post processing, I pulled down the highlights and raised the shadows, among a hundred other adjustments? Or would it be more honest if I let a preset algorithm designed by some unnamed employee at Canon edit the RAW file and convert it to a jpg file? You see?! Where does it end? Do we insist landscape painters disclose if they used palette knives or brushes? If they painted with oils, acrylics, or watercolours? If they removed an object from a scene? Or added one in? The first morning after our arrival, we were still a bit tired from our one-way trip from Belgium to the Isle of Skye (15 hours in total) and decided to do some scenic driving on the B8083 from Broadford to Elgol. Hill of Cleat, The Quiraing, Isle of Skye, Scotland. As a visitor, I found the biggest challenge to photographing The Quiraing was deciding what to isolate and photograph. With jaw-dropping views whichever way you look, it becomes so hard to decide what it is you most want to capture in that moment when the light is at its finest. For this reason I went for the easy option and made a panorama to capture those first rays of dawn as they lit up The Hill of Cleat and separated it from the background. As this platform was never designed for sharing panoramas, I've posted a crop here and the full pano in my stories and highlights where you can turn your phone and see it across the whole screen. When photographing coastal scenes such as this I usually have a very clear idea in my mind of how I want the water and waves to look; whether the scene needs an incoming or outgoing wave, how far into the frame it needs to come, the shapes I'd like. This was exactly the case here, and I knew instantly the moment I had the shot I wanted. So much so that I confidently picked up the tripod and walked away from the scene once I thought I'd gotten what I wanted without even checking the back of the camera. Now I hasten to add that really you should always check the back of camera just to make sure there were no silly mistakes like water on the lens but I was in a rush home. ✨ New Skye Film Out Now! ✨ 🤩 This vista is one of our favourite views on Skye (and all of Scotland!). Sgurr na Stri isn’t really all that high at 478 m, but the 360 degree views are outstanding. You’ve got Loch Coruisk and the Cuillin to the west, Loch Scavaig (a sea loch) and the Small Isles to the south, and the mountains of Knoydart in the distance to the east. 🥾 It’s a full day hike there and back from Sligachan (of Old Bridge fame), but we’d recommend savouring the scenery in this spectacular corner of Skye by following the 3 day loop hike/camp/bothy itinerary outlined in our latest guide (link in profile). Fairy Pools Île de Skye, Écosse, mai 2023 Les Fairy Pools, littéralement « piscines des Fées », sont une série de piscines naturelles situées sur l'île de Skye. La zone située aux alentours est principalement rocheuse et est parsemée de quelques zones marécageuses. L'eau y est froide car elle est alimentée par des ruisseaux de montagne. Elle est aussi transparente avec des reflets bleus. 2024 = another epic challenge. In 10 week time my good friend @mark_j_peart and I will be taking on the uk,s toughest mountain climb led by an extremely experienced mountain guide and friend @nigebmic.this challenge will bring its own difficulties, with us needing to spend a night on the moutain before waking up to continue and complete the route. We will be required to carry enough water , food ,climbing equipment and shelter to sustain us for duration of the traverse making it a very technical and physical task. ..👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇 12km long, 3000m of ascent, 11 Munros (peaks over 914m or 3000ft), over 30 summits and technical rock climbing up to Very Difficult (if the easiest line is taken) makes the Cuillin ridge traverse the most challenging mountaineering journey in the United Kingdom... .
