This is my amazing #neighbour Freda, wearing a #funhat to church today. She is #80yearsyoung and is still working, cleaning #Dunvegancastle which she has been doing for 54 years. She takes out all our bins on rubbish/recycling collection days then brings them back again. She cares for the neighbourhood pets when people are away, feeding cats and walking dogs. She cuts the grass and tends flower beds. She walks around 30000 steps a day and regularly leaves flowers and chocolate gifts by our back door. Definitely one of the most hardworking, generous and kind humans that I know. #amazingneighbours #dunvegan #isleofskye #goodneighbours

Dunvegan ist eine kleine Stadt an der Westküste der Isle of Skye und ist vor allem berühmt geworden durch das Dunvegan Castle. Dieses liegt auf einem Felsvorsprung umringt von dem Meer und mehreren Hektar gepflegter Schlossgärten.🌷🏰 Die Festung stammt aus den 1940er Jahren und seit dem 13. Jahrhundert ist sie der Sitz des Clans MacLeod. Der MacLeod Clan gehört zu den ältesten Clans Schottland. An der Burg gibt es eine Anlegestelle von welchen aus regelmäßig Bootsausflüge für Robbenbeobachtungen entlang des Loch Dunvegan (an welchem wir übernachtet haben) stattfinden. Ein weiteres Highlight in dem kleinen Örtchen ist die älteste Bäckerei der Isle of Skye. Der Kaffee dort ist sehr zu empfehlen.😍☕️ In diesem Sinne, genießt euren Sonntagskaffee in der Sonne. We had a tour out to Dunvegan Castle last week - Isle of Skye never disappoints! Home to Clan Macleod for over 600 years! The longest time period any single clan has occupied one castle. We were treated to some fabulous weather and visibility! Some of the flowers around the gardens are just starting to show signs of bloom and colour 😍 Architecturally Dunvegan is a building of high importance, containing the work of at least ten building periods ranging from the 1200s to the 1850s. Dunvegan Castle today has a unified design with Victorian dummy pepper-pots and defensive battlements running the whole length of the roof line. This romantic restoration was carried out by the 25th Chief between 1840 and 1850 to the plans of Robert Brown of Edinburgh at a total cost of £8,000. Underneath this outer skin however, there remains a series of five separate buildings each with its own unique character and story to tell. The tone is set by the imposing land bridge leading to the colonnaded portico entrance built by John Norman (24th Chief) in 1814. From its impressive entrance hall to its ornately decorated State Rooms, the castle is a unique mix of building styles that reflect the requirements of the clan Chiefs who built them over the centuries. The clematis must be blooming beautifully again in the gardens of Dunvegan Castle. Dla mnie właśnie takie było spotkanie z tym clematis Montana. Zwyczajnie zauroczona wpadłam jak przysłowiową śliwka w kompot, najchętniej wzięłabym całą pergole ale trochę było to niewykonalne. Właśnie minęło kilka wiosen od naszej wizyty na wyspie Skye. Powojnik pewnie znowu pięknie kwitnie w ogrodach zamku Dunvegan. A moje zauroczenie przerodziło się w dwie odmiany tego pnącza,które właśnie zaczyna kwitnąć w moim ogrodzie. 🤍Na zdjęciach kilka ujęć z pięknych,zamkowych ogrodów. Jak widać pogodę mieliśmy taka sobie ale i tak mi się podobało. A teraz napiszcie mi o swoich dość ciekawych pamiątkach,czy inspiracjach życiowych z podróży. . . We have recently acquired what is now one of the oldest pieces of furniture in the Dunvegan Castle collection. This imposing Scottish Armorial wainscot oak chair belonged to John Ian Mor MacLeod (16th Chief), son of one of the clan’s most celebrated Chiefs, Sir Rory Mor. John was born in 1595, served as an MP in the Scottish parliament and married Lady Sybella Elizabeth Mackenzie of Kintail. After siring 11 children, he died four years after this chair was made for him. It bears his name, coat of arms and the date, 1645. 📍 Dunvegan Castle, Isle of Skye🏴 Dunvegan Castle is located 22 miles west of Portree on the Isle of Skye. Home to the Chief of Clan MacLeod. It is a picturesque place with wooded gardens. Parts of the castle are thought to date from the ninth century, but building work has been carried out in almost every century since the 1200s when the MacLeods moved in. It is said to be the oldest inhabited castle in Scotland today. Inside there are family portraits galore with antique furniture, books, trophies and weapons. Showcases containing alsorts of medals and relics display such intriguing items as a lock of Bonnie Prince Charlie's hair and a pin cushion embroidered by Flora MacDonald. Also on display is the famous Fairy Flag, of which precious little now remains. Legend has it that this sacred banner, believed to date from the 7th century, will bring success to the chief or his clan if unfurled in an emergency. Dunvegan Castle has been the stronghold of the Chiefs of MacLeod for nearly 800 years and it remains the home of the Clan Chief The most intriguing item on display in Dunvegan castle is the legendary “Fairy Flag” which the Macleods have twice used successfully at the Battle of Glendale and the Battle of Trumpan. According to legend the clan may use the flag only three times when they are in need. The flag is now a bit tattered as various members of the Macleod Clan would cut off a piece for good luck when going off to war. A practice that continued up to World War 1. Fairy Pools and Dunvegan Castle The fairy pools may be stunning in greener weather but were a bit of a disappointment in colder greyer weather. As we were leaving there was a line in the parking lot waiting for spaces. We had a lovely lunch at the Tavern at the Old Inn at Carbost and then popped into the Talisker Distillery. Dunvegan Castle is lovely- the oldest continually habited castle in Scotland. They have iron keys hidden in the rooms for the kids to find, and lots of beautiful gardens.
