A smuggler's cave Last day at Gatehouse and an adventure to re-find Dirk Hatterick's Cave. Not for the faint-hearted. Was still in my 40s when I last entered, bit more of a challenge in the 60s, especially if you don't like small spaces. Muddy afterwards as you can see, glad I went, unlikely again in my lifetime. Fantastic coastline and views to the Isle of Man very clear, looming on the horizon A visit to Cairnholy burial chambers and the contemplation of those who were here 6000 years ago. The morning was a last visit to the viaduct and recorded the cuckoos again, louder than before. Finished the day with another trip to the Galloway Smokehouse (3rd time), scallops (local from Kirkudbright), smoked mussels and smoked venison sausages. Very, very sad to leave the little cottage in the woods. 2024-04-28 V roce 2018 zakoupil náš spolek od Správy železnic vyřazený kmenový přejezdník. Jedná se o původní provedení, navržené v roce 1972 vývojovým pracovníkem tehdejšího Výzkumného ústavu železničního. V této době se užívalo pojmenování přejezdové návěstidlo, a teprve v souvislosti se vznikem přejezdového zabezpečovacího zařízení VÚŽ 76 se začal pro tento prvek používat jednoslovný název přejezdník. V roce 2023 jsme v našem depozitáři vyčlenili prostor, kde bude možné tento exponát umístit. Na jaře následujícího roku začala tedy jeho oprava. Jako první bylo nutné opravit poškozená dvířka základnové transformátorové skříně. This here is the former site of West Bay Railway Station, first opening in 1884 as part of the line to Bridport & Maiden Newton, it only lasted until 1930 for passenger usage, but continued the serve freight right up until 1962. Taking time out to stop and check out the delights of little country towns is something I’ve enjoyed doing on my bike rides. Woodstock is a small country town in central west NSW - it used to have a train line. The station building and sign have been preserved, and make a fantastic backdrop for a photo. There’s also a great pub in town, doing what great pubs do - great meals, great conversation and adding to the local community. 2024-04-22 Generální oprava trojstavné páky vzor 5093 pro stavědlové přístroje vzor 5007. Tuto páku vyvinula rakouská firma Südbahnwerke v závěru dvacátých let dvacátého století. Díky svému chodu 2 x 550 mm se používala hlavně pro stavění dvouramenných návěstidel, závorování výhybek do obou směrů a k obsluze tehdy nově zaváděných trojznakových předvěstí. Důvodem jejího vývoje byla mimo jiné i snaha ušetřit. Jejím použitím místo do té doby obvyklých trojpolohových pák vzor 5014 nebo dvojitých pák vzor 5015 se ve stavědlových přístrojích ušetřilo jedno pole. V provozu na našem území se příliš nerozšířila, protože se začala více využívat trojstavná páka A 16 tuzemské konstrukce, vyvinutá ve firmě ČKD. Po opravě všech součástek exponátu proběhlo jeho sestavení a přezkoušení. 🚶♀️Beautiful Walks 🚶♀️ We are so lucky to have the most amazing walks so close to the site! This walk is under 5 minutes away. It’s a gorgeous walk by the river along the old railway line! There is a rope swing to encourage the kids along the way too. You even get to walk through the old railway tunnel and if you are lucky you might see some bats. Surrounded by tall rocky cliffs, hidden lake was created when the Newsome quarry closed and the old quarry filled with water creating the lake. The quarry maintained a company town called Fuellers siding after the railroad siding that serviced the quarry where the employees lived (pic 2) and you can still see remnants of the old tracks along the blue trail (pic 3) Atleast one employee from the quarry is buried in the woods in an unknown location. It's also rumored that moonshiners were active in these woods. On the hills overlooking the lake you'll find an old oil tanker car (pic 4 & 5) The state, which owns the land doesn't know how they got it on the hill since there wasn't any railroad running up the steep hill but it's speculated that it was used as oil storage. Also on the bluffs overlooking the lake you'll find the dance floor (pic 6) which once belonged to the "hidden lake" resort which opened after the quarry closed. The lake is located in Harpeth River State park and as the name of the park implies, Harpeth river runs through the state park. Harpeth river state park is broken up into a few day use areas rather than one continuous site. The Hidden lake day use area is located at 7851 McCrory Lane Nashville. There's no visitor center but a passport stamp can be found by the trailmap wayside exhibit near the parking lot. To get to Hidden Lake: from the parking lot follow the "story book" trail until you reach the red trail. Follow the red trail until you see the blue trail on the left then take the blue trail which goes to the lake To get to the old train car & dance floor: From the parking lot follow the "story book" trail until you reach the red trail which leads to the train car and dance floor 🚗 Parking: Free parking 🐕 Dog friendly: Leashed dogs allowed 🚣♀️ Kayaking: Class I river/ kayak launches into the river available at 7851 McCory Lane Nashville, 7701 Hwy 100 Nashville and 1672 Cedar hill road Kingston. 🎣 Fishing: State license required.
