May is Bike Safety Month and the Mattpoisett Rail Trail is a shining example of designing with community in mind. The 1.2 mile shared-use path enhances opportunities for everyone, however they propel themselves, to experience a safe way to enjoy nature while reducing vehicular emissions. This project extended the existing SouthCoast Bikeway from Fairhaven into the downtown Village of Mattapoisett — the stretch of path known as the “Shining Tides Mile.” This impactful project required a significant amount of surveying, planning, engineering, permitting, project management, and construction phase services as well as extraordinary teamwork and coordination between local, state, and federal officials, engineering consultants, contractors, environmental regulators, local interest groups, and the community of Mattapoisett, Massachusetts to make the project a reality. We rented a cabin in Waterloo State Recreation Area over the weekend. While riding the Mike Levine rail trail we rode past some beautiful woods carpeted with may apples and white trilliums. We followed a game trail into the forest and on our way back out I thought I spotted at the top of a hill the tell tale curve of apple tree branches. It was a huge, half dead tree that looked ancient. On our way up to it we startled some sleeping deer in a nearby thicket. Around its base, among the remnants of last year’s apple crop (which, for rotten wild apples were quite large), were the largest morels I’ve ever seen. We were a day or two too late for them to make good eating but it was a magical place to experience nonetheless. Later we would ride past a hilly meadow with a pair of sand hill cranes, a pair of Canada geese, a pair of white tail deer, and a pair of turkeys; all within a few hundred yards. . . . #puremichigan #morel #foraging #railtrail #whitetail #mushrooms #nature #spring

Today was the @hudsonvalleymarathon Half Marathon. It started and ended by crossing the Walkway over the Hudson Bridge, so naturally I was pretty distracted for those miles. Unfortunately it was overcast and rainy, so I didn’t bother trying to stop and get pictures of the Mid Hudson Bridge. I’m going to have to go back next time we have good weather. The rest of the race continued on the Dutchess Rail Trail, so it was a pretty flat course. @alphawinracing actually had pacers, which was really nice. I don’t usually splurge for races that are that fancy. I was able to run right near one of the pacers, which forced me to keep my pace consistent. Love trying new flavors that rotate. We have tried the chocolate avocado with candied walnuts and cookies and cream, pictured. Also, peppermint and peanut butter. Note: Peanut butter sauce has honey in it. I love their ice cream. Some can have a stronger coconut flavor which some people like and some not. Patio is not pup friendly but we snuck our pup because it was late at night and no one was outside ( Sorry and thank you ) We can easily spend a day in Hudson. We even get takeout here often, but recommend going in person for more customization (Rail Trail please allow online protein add on for vegan pizza, tofu or impossible meat😉😉😉) We usually order the modern greek sub feta for tofu. Then a large farmers market flatbread with vegan cheese and @impossible_foods meat. Add ons can add up, but we love the food♡ The staff is knowledgeable on vegan (some being vegan themselves). It's funny, they don't recommend getting the cauliflower wings veganized because they know it will be disappointing without the breading. This time for Cinco de Mayo, we ordered the black bean hummus without cheese. The chips are hearty and the hummus was absolutely delicious! I hope its a regular offering ♡ And our usual flatbread.
