Playing is all about learning, exploring and building positive relationships - all things that start right from birth. Here's two key things to consider when playing with your newborn baby: 1. It's never too early to start playing with your baby! Playtime can be based around your interaction together (young babies don't need toys- your face and voice are the perfect toys). Talking and singing when your baby is awake, calm and alert are great ways to build your baby's brain and enjoy the bond between you. 2. Playtime and interacting takes a lot of energy and regulation for babies as they need to process all the sensory information coming at them. With this in mind, keep an eye on the cues your baby will give you for needing a break and be ready to stop playing. Newborn babies' awake periods are short at this stage but as time goes on your baby will stay awake for longer periods of time and you will be able to play for longer ๐Ÿ˜Š #playingwithyourbaby #parentinfantrelationships #talkingtomybaby #babybehaviour #babycommunication #babycues #sensorybabies #infantmentalhealth #infantdevelopment From Brazelton Centre UK

10 to 12 months What Your Baby Can Do *Imitates others. *Curious about new toys and can point to what they want. *Can express several emotions: excited, anxious, sadness... *Can trigger an action that affects others like making them laugh. * Can show signs of distress when they are separated from their favourite people and things. * Seeks visual or physical contact with their parents when they are unsure about a situation. *Reacts when someone takes their toys. *Shows affection with kisses, hugs, and smiles. 10-12 Months What You Can Do *Provide them with a safe environment. *Play with your baby. Read them books and sing their favourite songs. *Try to understand what your baby wants when they cry, smile, babble, point their finger or turn away. *Try to help your baby identify their feelings in words: happy, sad, angry... *Make routines more enjoyable by ticking, laughing, singing, and playing games. *Encourage your baby's efforts to move, stand up and hold onto furniture. *Talk to your baby about what you're going to do together: eat dinner, go for a walk outside, take a bath... This will help them to feel safe in their daily routine. #EarlyYears #InfantActivities #BabyActivities #ChildDevelopment #NewMom #NewBaby #1YearOld #PlayingWithYourBaby #Turning1 #ConnectingWithYourBaby

Super simple Sunday Setup. Merida is off at dance rehearsal so once Bonnie woke from her nap we did some really simple but fun play. All we did was put the @lego Duplo in and out of a box transferring it from one to another! She got so much out of this really simple idea. โค๏ธ She was using her motor skills and hand eye coordination to pick up and put down the Lego ๐Ÿ’™ She was eye tracking watching when I threw the pieces in. ๐Ÿ’œ She was listening to the noise as the pieces dropped. ๐Ÿ’š She was feeling the Lego shapes- the smooth areas and the bumpy parts. โค๏ธShe was also sharing the Duplo with me passing it to me and then taking it back, learning early social skills ๐Ÿ’› I was using the colour names as she picked pieces up. So much from a 1 minute setup! I shall be sharing more easy and quick play activities for babies! In my beginners class series, I will help you to develop a felt experience of when there is excess pressure on the pelvic floor while simultaneously working through tense areas of the body that foster this preference. ๐Ÿ’ซThis is a holistic approach to pelvic floor health. These techniques transformed my life as a new mum โšฝ I could finally kick a ball with my child ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ Run and play ๐Ÿคฑ Pick up my baby pain-free Push a shopping trolley and feel my core reflexively respond At the time my boy was my motivator. I wanted to be able to run and play with him but what I didn't expect when taking this approach was the change in my tension levels, and the deeper connection I would also develop with my body.ย  Being super tense with hip, shoulder, wrist lower back, foot pain, two prolapses and a diastasis recti wasn't a permanent state of being.ย  ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ We are always adapting and healing and this is what we promote in my beginner's 6-week evening class series starting in Clanfield next week. 7th June 6:05 pm Message me at [email protected] to secure your spot. Our high contrast cards. As part of our Meaningful play box. Because a babyโ€™s eyesight is not yet fully developed at birth, their perception of colour is restricted to black, white and shades of grey. Therefore, babies love to look at high-contrast black-and-white shapes and pictures. It draws their attention and helps them concentrate. Watching a moving object, helps fine tune your babyโ€™s visual tracking, a lifelong skill that could impact reading and writing. Because high contrast images are easier for babies to interpret, they are the best way for your baby to lengthen their attention span, improve their memory and develop their nervous system. . . . #easypeasyplaybox #mumlife #learnthroughplay #playingwithyourbaby #sensoryplay #babyshowergifts #newbornbabygift

Our baby safe mirror. As part of our Meaningful play box. During tummy time a mirror motivates your baby to lift their head, keep it up and look around which strengthens neck and arm muscles. Mirrors can also encourage babies to roll simply because they want to be closer to the reflection. Mirrors inspire babies to reach, pat and point. When babies can grasp objects, playing with a hand-held mirror supports their hand skills as they hold and move the mirror to capture different views of their surroundings. . . . #newborn #babygiftboxset #meaningfulplay #sensoryplayideas #playingwithyourbaby #sensoryplay #babyproducts

Our baby safe mirror. Babies particularly enjoy the faces of their mums, dads and caregivers; however they also delight in seeing all kinds of faces in books or in a mirror! Mirrors tend to catch and hold a babyโ€™s gaze. The longer your baby focuses on something, the more their attention span grows. With this in mind, keep an eye on the cues your baby will give you for needing a break and be ready to stop playing. Newborn babies' awake periods are short at this stage but as time goes on your baby will stay awake for longer periods of time and you will be able to play for longerย ๐Ÿ˜Š ๐ŸŽฅย Head over to our IGTV to our Playtime video see some more ideas about now to play with your newborn baby and how to notice when they need a break. #PlayDayย  #NationalPlayDay #playingwithyourbaby #parentinfantrelationships #talkingtomybaby #babybehaviour #babycommunication #babycues #motherandbaby #dadandbaby #sensorybabies #infantmentalhealth #infantdevelopment

Babies explore through play. Between birth and 12 months, babies become more and more fascinated by what is happening around them. Research shows that through play, babies explore and develop their imagination. As their imaginations develop, they can experiment with new objects, sounds and sights. Play is important because it provides babies with different cognitive, sensory, and physical experiences. We have assessed the research and incorporated insights from experts to find ways in which you can support your baby and create a developmental foundation through meaningful play. #comingspring2021 . . . . . #easypeasyplaybox #meaningfulplay #sensoryplayideas #playingwithyourbaby #sensoryplay #australianowned #supportsmallbusiness #localbusiness #local #noosabusiness #babyplayideas #sunshinecoast #mumlife #learnthroughplay #fineandgrossmotorskills #earlylearning #socioemotionalskills #cognitivedevelopment #languagedevelopment

A newborn has as many brain cells(neurons) as an adult, however the connections between brain cells (synapses) that allow the baby to process information quickly haven't yet been wired. Babies learn about the world by interacting with it and with their parents. To build a baby's brain, parents need to expose the baby to new things, letting the baby explore those things over and over until the baby has memorized every detail, then give the baby quiet time to process what the baby has experienced. For your baby, play is how thay learn about themselves and the world around them. When your baby grabs and shakes a rattle or plays Peekaboo with you, they discover that they can make things happen. When you talk, coo, laugh, hug & kiss your baby they are learning that their responses affect you. #newborncare #newborn #newbaby #newbornplay #babyplay #playingwithyourbaby #childbirtheducator #childbirtheducation #newborncare #childbirth #inarabirthclasses

It is so fantastic that in recent years there has been more education/emphasis to expectant and new parents to 'talk to your baby'. It's so important we engage and interact with our baby when they're ready for it ( in a calm, alert state) but it's ALSO good to remember communication is two way. We need to believe and trust our baby is speaking back to us. Our baby's body language will continuously be sparking conversation- "Come and play with me!", "I'm feeling tired, can you help me calm the environment?", "I'm starting to get hungry, can I have a cuddle and a feed". When we understand the ways our baby shares with us their needs, thoughts and feelings we can respond accordingly. We become attuned to our baby and our relationship deepens โค๏ธ Let's remember: Communication is two ways. Even with babies. And good communication is one of the keys to a flourishing relationship. #babycommunication #talkingtoyourbaby #playingwithyourbaby #babycues #newbornbaby #newparents #parentbabyrelationship #bonding #bodylanguage

This is the perfect resource for supporting the parent-baby relationship. The leaflet is A5 size, with 6 sides of information. The Red Ball. ๐Ÿ”ด This item is part of the Newborn Behavioural Observations kit. But what is it used for? The red ball is used to observe the babyโ€™s ability to track and follow objects. When the baby is in a quiet alert state the practitioner can hold the ball at a distance of approx. 10-12 inches where the baby may lock his/her gaze onto the ball and follow it as it is moved from side to side. It is amazing to see newborn babies focusing in on a stimulus and actively scanning its movements.ย  Of course, babyโ€™s have a special attraction to the human face and usually choose to look at a face rather than an object. In either case however, there is often a limit to the amount of stimulation a baby can take on. With the NBO we also teach the practitioner to show the parents signs of availability and readinessย andย signs of disengagement and overstimulation. It's really important to engage and play with your baby but it's also good to be able to recognise when they want a breakย ๐Ÿ˜Š #newbornbehaviouralobservations #babybehaviour #socialinteraction #playingwithyourbaby #parentinfantrelationships #newbaby #newparents

The Best Toy For a Baby is YOU! ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ When we bring a newborn baby into our family weโ€™re often showered with lovely gifts including soft toys, rattles or mobiles that our babies love to play with. Toys help them grow and develop all their senses to help them understand their world. The BEST toy that you can give your baby is time with you. Getting on the floor with them and giving them your full attention will benefit them greatly. When you baby makes noises, copy them to reinforce their language skills. Having your face close to theirs gives your baby a sense of trust and security. This bond then forms the foundation for future language skills both verbal and non verbal. Sing songs and rhymes to your baby along with actions like incy wincy spider or twinkle twinkle little star. Babies love seeing hands and fingers move above them. Read stories to your baby, talk about the pictures. When going for a walk talk about what you can see and point out different things like trees, birds and houses. All this interaction with your child is by far the most beneficial type of PLAY a baby can experience. So donโ€™t stress about having a latest popular toys for your baby when all they need is YOU! ๐Ÿ˜

๐Ÿ–ŒA REGULAR PICASSO๐Ÿ–Œ .. โœจThe weather has been seriously dreary, cold and depressing in Michigan lately. ๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿป Weโ€™re running out of things to do inside and Nora is starting to get sick of her toys. Lol. .. โœจSo I searched around the house and came across a bin Iโ€™ve kept of various activities and art materials from when my nieces would come over all the time when they were younger. .. โœจI realize Nora is still a bit young for markers and paints and those sort of things, but I found some @crayola Color Wonder Mess Free markers and paper and thought itโ€™d be fun to give it a shot. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ .. โœจSo I taped a piece of paper down on the table, showed her how the markers worked by writing her name on the paper and then let her play and experiment. How genius is it to make markers that only work on the paper!? I didnโ€™t have to worry about her coloring on herself or my table. ๐Ÿ˜‚ .. โœจIโ€™ll admit it didnโ€™t hold her attention too long, but I could tell it was getting her brain working as she was experiencing something brand new and her expressions let me know she was having fun. โ˜บ๏ธ .. โœจSwipe all the way through to see Noraโ€™s official first work of art! ๐Ÿฅฐ๐ŸŽ‰ Might have to hang this on the refrigerator. ๐Ÿ˜ .. โœจFor those who have babies around the 15 month mark, what are some activities you are doing at home with your littles? Lemme know! I need some new stuff! ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป

These last four months of your babyโ€™s first year are all about movement!๐Ÿคธ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ . Your baby will either already be crawling or master the skill during this time and will quickly move to standing, cruising, and walking! ๐Ÿคฉ . These months also come with lots of Separation Anxiety. Babies realize they are independent from mom, and with this realization comes a lot of tears and clinginess. ๐Ÿฆฅ . A sign of Secure Attachment is a babyโ€™s ability to deal with this Separation Anxiety effectively. This doesnโ€™t mean they donโ€™t feel it but that they are soothed once they are reunited with us and they quickly go back to โ€œexploration mode.โ€ ๐Ÿ˜ . . #playingwithyourbaby #8to11months #newmom #newparents #separationanxiety #happybaby #attachment #secureattachment #parentingtips #parentingthroughcovid19 #parentingthroughcorona #parentingthroughapandemic #playingtoconnect #childdevelopment #neurodevelopment #playbuildsthebrain #brainsloveplay
