Stand have been working with The Glasgow School of Art since 2004. Our longest client relationship. And one that has won us a large number of awards over the years. The Way In > To The GSA is part of the 2024/25 student recruitment campaign. A pair of booklets that talks about the school in the context of Glasgow as a creative powerhouse and inspirational place to live, work and create. The booklets are based on the format of creative sketchbook and scrapbook bulging at the seams with inspiration. The book is printed @ J Thomson Colour Printers on a series of different self-coloured tactile papers - form-cut to various apparently random sizing creating a layered effect that drags you into the content. It’s right up there with the best work we have done for the GSA. Intuitive or planned? For me it’s both. (But actually more the second one) I have an idea, a concept I’m working from - and I plan. Then I might set out to execute it in a more intuitive way taking advantage of what might happen in the process. And then often working in bursts of energy to get an expressiveness, a bit like action painting, in my screen printing. But I work always within some frames I’ve been setting up. And I actually ponder a lot over what I’m making - taking pauses, looking, thinking … and considering how it relates to the rest of my art and the series I’m working on. Cheering myself up by being productive & planning a CMY #screenprint workshop using my smallest screens. Been thinking about this for a while & so glad to finally be doing it. 💰 Paid an extortionate amount of money to get an eighth little screen made to match the seven other little screens I already had. But now there’s enough small screens to run a workshop, hopefully everything will be a bit easier to transport, it will take up less space & save me a bit of time & money. Instead of screen printing on A3 paper we’ll be printing on A4 paper… @bytinafrancis will be happy about that! 🌈 Had a lot of fun printing these new workshop examples on A4 paper using my small screen. Also been trying out an eco friendly degreaser to clean my screens with instead of Mr Muscle. Checking for any pinholes before I start screenprinting a new small oval print. I used to print a lot of ovals, they were quite big if anyone remembers my older work?
