After being hit on the arm by a falling acorn in the park at the end of last year, I decided to research what colour(s) if any I would be able to get from naturally dyeing with them. I collected a few up and managed to produce this soft pale grey colour.. . . Finally this week I have got my act together and printed the cotton with a new pattern... . . Jessica is a Sydney-born, Armidale, NSW-raised printmaker, artist and graphic designer. After graduating with a Master's degree in printmaking from the National Art School, Jessica developed a relief printing studio called The Blue Stamp. Within this space, Jessica creates unique linocut-printed artworks. Her work explores the complexities of the natural world and the interconnected relationship between ecosystems, organisms and the cycle of life. Jessica combines strong contrasts, a sense of play and dynamic visual combinations to reflect her subjects' organic movements and to create a sense of realism and visual drama, drawing the viewer into the scenes. Happy 25th of April - happy freedom day! 🌱 Today is the 50th anniversary of the “Carnation Revolution”, the day the dictatorship fell after 48 years of authoritarian regimes bringing back freedom for Portuguese people and the end of the colonial war and Portuguese colonialism. The military coup was marked by a mostly non violent take of power with few shots fired and the celebration with carnations given to military officers by Celeste Caeiro, a restaurant worker. Many of the soldiers put their carnations in the muzzles of their guns or their uniforms, and so this symbol was born. Since I’ve been born, it has never been so important to celebrate and remember this day, with the incendiary rise of the far right in Portugal over this years election, and I’m taking extra time to give appreciation and to be grateful to all the grandparents and parents that fought for us and for our freedom. And a special thank you to my grandmothers for fighting gender norms even back then, for my paternal grandfather for being an artist when it was even harder than now and especial to my maternal grandfather for being one of the deputies writing that very first Portuguese Constitution after the fall of the dictatorship. I’m thinking of all of you today and how we have to keep your work going! I also want to send a message of strength for everyone fighting for freedom, personally or as a nation - freedom always wins in the end! As my dear grandmother always writes me on this day: 25 de Abril - SEMPRE! ✊🏻❤️🌱 And as a special celebration for the 50th anniversary of the revolution, my “Liberdade” prints are on sale from today and just until the end of April! Wir folgten den Pfaden des Blauen Reiters und haben die Museen in Kochel am Walchensee, Bernried am Starnberger See, Penzberg und letztendlich München mit seinem Lenbachhaus besucht. All diese beeindruckenden Werke der Mitglieder des Blauen Reiters machten Lust auf ein neues Gebiet - den Holzschnitt. Gedruckt habe ich auf Japanpapier und verblichenem Schreibpapier aus einem alten Fundus.
