After years of requests, I've finally found a great source for archival quality giclee prints, and have had a number of my babies reproduced in smaller sizes. I will be handpainting a selection of them and will offer them in open editions. This means they will be signed, but they will not be numbered or chopped (the red stamped part of my signature). My regular editions will still be numbered and chopped. The final pricing is still to be determined, but will be lower, naturally, because reproduction. Just as soon as I can carve out some spare time, I will be getting these up on my site for ordering. Woodland Walk - this is an old favourite, out of the print drawer today to scan... I carved this one a while ago and had a long list of essential things to be included in the image written for me by a child. Here's a story of me and Midjourney AI, that fun-but-scary and often (rightfully so) maligned AI generator that creates and copies, developing rapidly: I have decided to embrace AI in my own way. In this way, I think of using it to make us artists. I think of using AI to get off of it, to encourage me and you to spend hours and months not on any technology, but cutting, making, and drawing by hand. I also use it to feed myself and who I think I am and see what it gives me back. realizing there is much less “original” in the world but rather our particular story of the same story that is always told. This simple silkscreen titled Blue Mask was burned onto screens from collaged paper layers. Those layers were abstracted for an image that I painted/drew. That painted image was based on an image that #midjourney gave me. That image from mid-journey was prompted when I fed it a piece of my work from 2022 that captured something about me and what I’m trying to say about myself, about the masks we wear, in trying to find “ourselves.” The prompt was "a new version, three faces, 70's colors." What comes first, the copy or, the original, or the inspiration? Artists have been copying in ateliers for generations. Is AI copying me if I ask it to? The process of abstracting, finessing, and finalizing has taken me at least three months, most of which was spent among other people in a print studio. AI is here to stay; for me, it’s what we can do and how we can encourage others to connect in the real world, to develop their artistic mastery away from machines and generators, for the betterment of themselves and society. We should and can ask AI and technology to be part of that path, rather than hinder it.

Dear old Meva. Being a Cornishman and spending the first 25 years of my life in Cornwall I was very lucky to enjoy many places around the county. As a child my parents would take me out but we tended to go to the north coast, the moors or mining areas as I enjoyed collecting rocks. I would be there with my little pick hammer chipping away with my hard hat on 😉 gathering rock samples for my collection. It wasn't until I met @thespeltspoon and her family who always holidayed near Mevagissey that I really fell in love with that area of the south coast of Cornwall. I love Mev as it's always got something going on and is still a busy working fishing harbour with a real permanent community. Here's one of my latest of Mevagissey from an image I took a while back, the boats are all moored up at low tide with their ropes criss crossing over each other. I wanted to keep the block quite simple with just clean lines to form the boats with little texturing. This weekend you will find me and many of my new prints at the Maker's Market @sandylanefarm. There will be a wonderful selection of local makers there selling their wares and delicious food and drink available too. We will be there 10-3. Sandy Lane Farm is a lovely organic farm on the edge of Thame in Oxfordshire. It's going to be a fabulous day, you will not want to leave! Please come along and say hi.
