THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS.....a true story of an African-American man, Chris Gardner, (played by Will Smith) & his 5 yr old son, Christopher, in 1981.Chris started out working as a medic in the navy, performing surgical techniques.He would get A's at school.Very smart.He left the navy, got married ,had a child & was selling Bone density scanners (an advanced xray device) to doctors, to make money.They were sometimes hard to sell & the wife was left being the bread winner.Then he applied & qualified to do an internship (work experience, with no salary),for 6 months, for a stock broking company.Only 1 person out of 20 people in the program got the job.His wife left him & their son under the pressure, & he ended up sleeping on the streets & refuge's with his son, after not being able to pay the rent, plus also handling other unfair defeats & set backs(his scanners being stolen by hippies, chasing them in the street & getting hit by a car, tax man taking all his money with no warning after finally making money from his last 4 scanners,being arrested unexpectedly- stayed overnight in prison when for not paying parking fines,bosses wasting his time getting them donuts & coffee,bosses asking to borrow money for taxi fares, bosses wasting his time when trying to get to an appointment with a client to make a sale, only having 6hrs to work with, instead of 9hrs like everyone else because he had to pick up his son from daycare, running & catching buses, no car) there is no time to waste while trying to sell finance packages to big wig companies & win over the other 19 people.He still won the position (sold the most)& got the job.He started his own investment firm in 1987, then sold part of his firm in a multi-million dollar deal in 2006.Now he is a motivational speaker.His son studied psychology & own his own fitness company.This is truly an inspirational movie to stay motivated & look at the big picture in the workforce.To not give up, stay positive & rise above every challenge is a skill that comes from pure determination & a spirit (desire) to live & look & push forward with dreams & hope. #chrisgardner #pursuitofhappynessmovie #willsmith #truestory

While on the surface it may seem like a fictional rags to riches tale, it is based on a true story of a young salesman, Chris Gardner, who struggles to survive, take care of his son on his own and find some happiness. The underlying theme of the tale arises from a phrase he remembers Thomas Jefferson saying; the right to the PURSUIT of happiness not happiness itself. During his struggles he wonders if it is all just a pursuit and that it is unobtainable. His situation goes from bad to worse as his marriage crumbles and he and his son end up out on the street homeless. He succeeds despite all his struggles because he capitalizes on several sales skills making his phone sales calls more efficient and by reaching out to high value customers. His ability to relate with people is what makes him so successful even as he competes with others who are not financially disadvantaged. Starring Will Smith, this is a movie you should watch. It is sad in a number of parts, but Chris’s struggles pay off, showing no matter how desperate a situation may seem, you should never give up. It shows how much we can miss about people, and that we shouldn’t judge people so quickly. Finally, the role his son plays is also what makes the movie so good. His son is so understanding in the situation as well as positive and is a big part of Chris’s happiness. May 2007, a storm delayed Chris Gardner (Entrepreneur, Author & Film Producer of #PursuitofHappyness) from speaking at what would be my final Mentor Tech Banquet at @texastech. . . See Chris Gardner who Will Smith played in the movie, never thought when he was hired as a stockbroker. He would go on to own his own brokerage firm in 1987 and is now the CEO/Founder of Garner Rich and Co. His net worth one article said $60 million, but I'm certain his worth surpasses that. As the article stated, some of his earnings are undisclosed. God has already planned your life.
