Refugee children suffer a disproportionately higher poverty risk compared to adults* but the Save the Children grants allow parents to buy essential items such as food, warm clothes and beds for their children. Unable to work, asylum seekers rely on state support which usually only amounts to £49.18 a week. This is expected to cover food, clothing, toiletries and transport - almost impossible in today’s cost of living crisis. * Theresa P. Today is International Labor Day! Peace Winds is proud to support the laborers who are working hard to secure a better life for themselves and their families. In 2023, Peace Winds provided 13,200 working days to Syrian refugees in Domiz-2 camp, encompassing the efforts of 1,282 remarkable men and women. Looking forward, we remain committed. In 2024, under the Sustainable Shelter, Improved Protection, and Access to Livelihoods project, Peace Winds endeavors to extend support by offering 12,650 working days to over 1,256 male and female workers in Domiz-1 camp. Having gone through such a traumatic experience from family members being killed and escaping their country as a result of war and persecution to reach safely, it can be difficult for refugees and asylum seekers to talk about their individual experiences, yet there are many that have gone on to help others by offering guidance and support and insights into their own experience to support others who are navigating their new life in the UK. Currently, young refugees are campaigning to help children receive a guardian so that they are not alone when they arrive in the UK and to help guide them through the difficult asylum process. and The separated children and young people that we work with are kind and compassionate. We regularly witness young people at Club Class offering supportive advice, informally translating or simply being a listening ear for a newly arrived separated child who might be struggling with sleep, language difficulties or their asylum application. Our foster carer’s video has been designed to inform foster carers and other professionals about asylum seeking children to help guide and prepare them for the crucial role that they play in the lives of separated children. Thousands of individuals seeking asylum in Australia are battling just to fulfill their basic needs, says @refugee_council. Left without a safety net, people seeking asylum are struggling with homelessness, unable to afford medical care, and facing a daily fight against hunger and health decline. Here’s what’s happening: 🔻 A house and homeless crisis is worsening 🔻Many unable to receive necessary medical treatments or medication 🔻 Mental health is on the decline 🔻 Food insecurity is so severe many are forced to rely on food pantries. The situation is critical for 15,000 individuals – including children, the elderly, and people with disabilities – who face an increased risk of exploitation. This new information from RCOA demonstrates the increasing vulnerability of already vulnerable people seeking asylum.
