Life Isn’t a Straight Line | Lead From Here #108. Too often I get emails from people telling me that they are frustrated by their lack of momentum, motivation and not being able to reach for their dreams. While all the tools we talked about over the last couple weeks are important and powerful, it’s not the silver bullet to unlimited motivation, energy and productivity. It’s one piece of the puzzle. It’s important for you to understand your mind, your body and your environment. The same people complaining about their lack of motivation and ability to stick with it...also happen to mention that they are dealing with the loss of a loved one or their kid is in the hospital. Life isn’t a straight line, there are hills and valleys, it’s important for you to realize where you are in the moment and adjust expectations accordingly. The popular mantra “Give 110% every single day” is often repeated and more often misunderstood. You may wake up feeling 100% and strive for 110% on that day. But what about the days you wake up feeling 30%...110% of 30% is like 33%. You aren’t going to find 80%, you focus on what you do have for that day. Consistency is more important than sporadic spurts of high throughput. Ultimately, you have to take care of yourself and understand what you need as an individual. If you are in a valley, don’t beat yourself up, focus on what you can do to shorten your time in that valley. Workout, take time off, rest, go out in nature, anything! Whatever helps you and works to get your mind at ease and back to work in a healthy manner. Mine is manual labor, there is nothing that reminds me of how good I have it like manual labor. Following on from my last post I should also mention, my husband is still alive. With eternal gratitude to the @nhsengland for the care, drugs and surgery @bowelcanceruk for the online community of support I needed for emotional support and information that got us a second opinion @bowelbabe (for her efforts in campaigning to get Encorafenib & Cetuximab/Beacon available on the NHS just months before my husband needed them, and all our friends and family who rallied round us and gave support (those NCT mamas really stepped up and I feel so thankful we chose to buy such awesome friends 🫶🏼) He goes for scans every 3 months and the recent ones show no evidence of cancer at this time. Interestingly to get us through the challenges we’ve faced we used many of the tools Hypnobirthing taught us; getting educated to make informed decisions, affirmations on the fridge “cancer does not define us”, a positive attitude, using relaxation and breathing techniques and listening to guided meditations when it was difficult to sleep. I’ve always told him he just needs to hang in there long enough for the cure to be discovered which I am certain will come. 🤔 How many gruas does it take to tow a broken down electric car in Mallorca??? The answer is 3 gruas, 3 days, and at least 3 - 5 hours of angry phone calls to the insurance company. Turns out when there is no power, there is no handbrake 🫠, no way of locking it and no way of moving it either!! None of them knew how tow it without breaking it abs our poor car had to be abandoned on a dangerous bend, unlocked and on yellow lines all weekend last weekend !! 🤩 Here is the hero that came all the way from Inca to eventually save us 🥰 This legend finally arrived on Sunday, and, after watching lots of others scratch their heads and arses in confusion... 🦸♂️This expert showed us how to access the emergency back up battery, start it with a pair of old fashioned jump leads, and the car had 40% battery once again... So we could access everything once more. Who knew they all come with a back up like this? 😁 What a fiasco!! Perhaps we should have got a hybrid! Had a long day of apts in the city this week but enjoyed EVERY SINGLE MINUTE of it with this happy guy! I struggle to put into words how it feels when his smile returns after a long period of hardship. It’s as if my world, which has been engulfed by a deep dark cloak of solitude and despair suddenly opens up to a bright blue sky full of puffy clouds and rainbows. I think I cry even more in the weeks post darkness because all the pent up stress and worry and survival can finally pour out of my soul in the form of immense and indescribable joy and gratitude for the return of the light. What a week (few weeks) it has been! Missing our family time with having to be in doors to rear and not spread sickness. My confidence level on a regular day - 8 or 9/10 Today it’s around 2-3. Loving my body on a regular day - solid 8/10 Today, we are hovering around a 1. I despise how my makeup turned out today (hence the black and white picture). My stress levels are PEAKED for no apparent reason. That smile ⬆️- 100% NOT in line with how I am feeling. That’s me forcing myself to smile in hopes that it will make me feel better. Do I know it’s temporary? Yes. Do I know that it’s a bad day and not a bad life? Yes. Do I know that I can turn it around? Yes. I live a pretty amazing life. I get to choose how I spend my days. I have 4 children that don’t give me a moment of grief. I have a grandson who brings me pure joy. I have a comfortable, warm home and a place to lay my head at night. I can goto the grocery store and buy whatever I want and not even think about it. I have a supportive partner that always has my back and yet, here we are 🤷♀️ Life is a journey of ups and downs. There isn’t anything specific that is causing me any of the above. I actually feel guilty over the fact I feel this way 🙄 Ridiculous, I KNOW this. I have all the tools to pull myself out of this funk and I am super grateful for that. I will return to my regular confident, positive self before the afternoon is even over - I’m sure of it. Why bother to share? Because regardless of what you see IRL, and on social media, it’s not always real. If I am experiencing a bad day, it’s likely that one of you is also and if I can make one other person KNOW that it’s NORMAL and that they aren’t alone, cool ✌️
Don´t let others or situations dim your light. I know it´s hard but try and shine your light. Move on like you don´t notice those subtle looks and glares. Dance through life as if everything is a beautiful melody that only you can hear. Make them wonder what makes you so happy. And when the time is right you move on and chose your own path. Down 2 pounds exactly for February and in my own house now with a wall of mirrors hahaha could be a great tool, or my worst enemy 😅. Please don't come at me for my room, it's a work in progress and ryder loves to pace back and forth against the side of my box spring for the good scritches. 3 moves in 3 months has been insane, but now I can finally unpack things that have been boxed up for over a decade and start customizing this house as my own. And when I say unpack things that have been boxed up for over a decade, lemme tell you, it's not just literally. I was going thru some boxes the other day that had been packed up in 2008 and all the triggers and emotions came flooding back and found myself crying, snotting all over myself, wanting to go buy a pack of Camels and bottle of Rum and get stupid. This life changing move across country, back to a place I once ran from has been a Rollercoaster. The new people I've met have been wonderful and the community very welcoming, the business has been actually making profit from day 1 which is like a unicorn, and i have my own house for the first time since 2007. I am happy, most of the time. But then I pass a street, or hear a song, or open a box and I get anxious and want to throw up and hide and revert back to my old, unhealthy ways. I have blood family here, I didn't directly reach out and tell them I was back, except my kids, but I know the others know by now thru mutual friends and go back and forth between wanting to reach out and wanting to leave that chapter behind. Everyone I come across is so nice but I find myself extremely lonely, thank God I have Ryder and Sky my 2 dogs cause I talk to them constantly and when I find myself in the black hole I use them to drag me out and take them for a walk or something. Anywho I'm rambling and this isn't directly involved with weightloss journey but it all connects in some way so there it is. I haven’t posted in a while because I’ve been busy living life. The last 3 years have been rough to say the least. For a very LONG time I prayed and asked God to put me where I needed to be emotionally, physically and financially. I prayed in specifics! I never doubted Him. The roller coaster continues… I haven’t slept properly yet and here’s a thought from a very sleepy JD. Yesterday was an interesting day. Two close friends spoke to me about how tough things are for them at the moment and another who has an unwell family member. I also found out my uncle had passed away. I had to be mindful not to detract from them by NOT doing the thing that everyone seems hardwired to do/say when talking to each other. “I know how you feel, this happened to me”. We so often forget to apply this one simple rule; to just listen. I’m fortunate to have the skills and education to remind myself not to detract from others when they come to me with their life events. Do your best to avoid projecting your own emotions and events on to others and take every effort to just be there for them and listen. Of course I’m sad about losing another family member, especially given how many terrible events have been going on for me lately! That said, I’m fortunate to have a great circle of friends and will talk to someone else rather than firing back at those who need me for other reasons. The classic examples: “I’ve had a tough day” or “I’m tired” Instant response and de gratification “Me too” Think about it. Life definitely feels like a rollercoaster these past 8 months. This past Monday it hit me with another bump. 🎢 I'll be going into surgery again on Friday. Definitely NOT in my plans!
