The so-called #Crown of Henry II is a medieval crown which came from the reliquary of the #SaintHenry II, Holy Roman Emperor (972–1024) at #BambergCathedral, though it is not thought to date from close to his lifetime. After the process of #GermanMediatisation, #Bamberg became part of the Kingdom of Bavaria and the crown was transferred to the treasury of the Munich Residenz, where it still can be seen today. This lily crown consists of six plates which are joined by hinges fixed with pins. Each of the plates carries a large fleur-de-lis. The pins are surmounted by praying angels standing on acanthus leaves. Four of the segments and all fleur-de-lis are adorned with precious stones while two carry antique cameos. The decoration of the frame with foliage work seems to be of later date than the frame. Due to fitting slots at the front and back segment it is possible to add an imperial arch and cross to the frame. He secured the faith in Germany, passed into Italy, drove out the Antipope Gregory, brought Benedict VIII back to Rome and was crowned in Saint Peter’s by that Pontiff in 1014. + It was his custom on arriving in any town, to spend his first night in watching in some church dedicated to our Blessed Lady. Blessed Memorial of St. Henry! St. Henry was born on May 6, 973, the son of Henry, Duke of Bavaria, and Gisela of Burgundy. Both of his grandfathers were kings. As a child, Henry was educated by the Bishop of Freising and later studied at the Hildesheim Cathedral. Saint Henry was born in 972 and bore his father's name. His father died when Henry was 23 years old, and he assumed the paternal title of Duke of Bavaria. It was at this time that he married Cunegundes, the holy spouse whom God gave him, and who like himself is today a canonised Saint. Trained in the fear of God, he ascended the throne with only one thought—that of reigning for God's greater glory. #OnThisDay in 1300, (the day after the Finnish episcopal seat has been moved from Korois and the Turku cathedral has been consecrated as the new episcopal seat for Finland), the relics of the Finnish national saint Henrik are also moved in solemn procession from the church in Nousis to the cathedral in Turku two kilometers away. Saint Henrik is most famous for his role in Christianizing Finland. He is said to have embarked on a missionary journey to Finland alongside King Erik of Sweden (known as Saint Erik) around 1155, converting many Finns to Christianity during this period. According to legend, Henrik was martyred in Finland, allegedly killed by a Finnish man named Lalli for personal vengeance. The story tells of Henrik excommunicating Lalli for his crimes and, in retaliation, Lalli tracked Henrik down and killed him on the ice of lake Köyliönjärvi in 1156. Henry was never officially canonized by the Pope, but local popular devotion led to his veneration as a saint. The Bishopric of Bamberg was another former German state. 1694, 1696, 1698, and 1700 were the years these 4 Kreuzer were minted out of silver. The reverse has an image of Saint Henry with a small 4 towards the bottom for the denomination. The words surrounding him say "Saint Henry Emperor." The obverse has the coat of arms of Bamberg with the date above, but I'm not sure what the initials GFN at the bottom of it represents. The words surrounding it are in reference to Lothair Francis of Schönborn who was the bishop of Bamberg from 1693 until his death in 1729. He was also the Archbishop of the Elector of Mainz from 1694-1729 and an Archchancellor of the Holy Roman Empire. This one is from 1698, with almost 1,382,000 minted in Nuremberg. Saint Henry (Finnish: Henrik; Swedish: Henrik; Latin: Henricus; died c. 20 January 1156) was a medieval English clergyman. He came to Sweden with Cardinal Nicholas Breakspeare in 1153 and was most likely designated to be the new Archbishop of Uppsala, but the independent church province of Sweden could only be established in 1164 after the civil war, and Henry would have been sent to organize the Church in Finland, where Christians had already existed for two centuries. Today we remember Saint Henry. Henry was king and ruler of the Holy Roman Empire. There is a lot to be said about this Saint, but what is notable was his contribution to reforms of the monastic life of the church. He assisted in combating the buying and selling of ecclesiastical goods and offices and promoted the celibacy of clerics. He also attributed to the liturgy by pushing to have the Creed said during mass. Henry did also have a side that was fierce and swift (from our modern lens too swift) in choosing to do battle. The main takeaways (in our opinion) from this Saint are the models of using power for beneficial reforms and that in our professional roles and all the noise that comes with it we can become saints.
