Hi, my name is Claudia 🌻 I am 25 years old and grew up in Germany. I am one of the three girls who will talk about our neighbourhood and how it is affected by climate and social injustices. I grew up in a former working-class neighbourhood in Munich, Germany, which has become very hipster-like in the last decades. However, this is causing some problems and injustices, mainly due to gentrification, which refers to the process of wealthier individuals moving into a previously lower-income area, often leading to increased property values, displacement of longtime residents, and changes in the neighborhood's character. NO CLIMATE JUSTICE ON OCCUPIED LAND In response to the A15 global call for a coordinated economic blockade to free Palestine, climate justice activists in Naarm/Melbourne are calling an action at the BP office in Docklands, on the stolen lands of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Boon-wurrung peoples. We demand that the global oil giant BP stops fuelling genocides in Palestine, so-called Australia and on other colonised lands. In late October 2023, Israel awarded BP one of twelve oil and gas exploration licenses off the coast of Gaza, violating Palestinian sovereignty. 6 months later, after more than 30,000 people, most of who are women and children have been brutally killed by Israel, BP has still not rescinded these oil and gas licenses. This is despite worldwide calls to cut economic ties with Israel, and community actions in the UK calling on BP to stop fuelling genocide and cancel these licenses. Just as BP has been fuelling the climate crisis for decades, it is complicit in Israel’s genocide in Palestine. GROWTH She was tired of being strong, standing alone. Pretending not to mind if her thoughts, grey like clouds on a rainy day, kept pouring raindrops with a watering can on her heart, heavy and soaked with flower seeds. YESTERDAY 08.03.24 BINGLEY At 2PM yesterday, parents of students at Cottingley Village Primary School pulled their children out as part of a co-ordinated strike effort across multiple different schools across Yorkshire. Parents and children gathered on the corner of the Bingley based school to sing, chant and wave banners. Like at recent protests in the region there has been a strong focus on the future generation with children who are likely to inherit a world greatly changed by the current world events. The children braved the bitter cold to have lessons in Pro Palestinian chanting and flag waving. The kids really did seem to enjoy getting involved even if a few may have been too young to fully understand the significance of what is happening. As I walked around the protest I saw a young boy not involved in the action ask his father what the protestors were there for “it’s for a war going on in another country mate” he looked over at the protest longingly before heading off. A particularly poignant moment came as the demonstrators chanted “Millions cry, all of us die”. In general the protest went smoothly with only a couple of hostile interactions from other parents or those walking/driving past including with a man on a bike who after speaking to a protestor the police stepped in to separate. A heavier police presence than expected was present. There were no arrests. Perhaps more telling than the police presence however was 4 members of the council, including 2 enforcement officers, these officers were watching those who parked up and immediately ticketing those parked on double yellow lines. I was told that they don’t usually turn up at this time and that it’s something that has happened at recent protests. I spoke to one of the enforcement officers, who had served a ticket on one of the protestors cars, and he stated that he had given the protestor advice on how to appeal and genuinely seemed quite a down to earth person. He said to me something along the lines of “we go where we are told” which makes me think this may be part of a greater policing/enforcement strategy from those in a position of power. #schoolstrike #palestine #bingley #school

School Strike Soundsystem for the Youth Climate Movement A solar-powered bicycle soundsystem for the youth climate strikes to amplify voices in street demos protesting for inaction by global governments on the climate emergency. I designed a built this portable soundsystem which features a 6th order band pass bass bin with mid, top, d-class amplifier, scooter battery with foldable solar-panel. Mounted on a bike trailer that can be towed through the crowds with a handsfree bluetooth mic attached to the rider. The speaker casing was made from upcycled PVC hoarding panels from a Greenpeace campaign. Northern Ireland strikes: Unions asked for special schools exemption. Trade unions have been asked to allow special school staff to come to work during upcoming strike action which will close some schools for eight days. Support staff including bus drivers, canteen workers and classroom assistants will take part in the strikes over pay. The Education Authority (EA) made the exemption plea and union Unite has agreed to meet the EA over the issue. However, unions have turned down the request on previous strike days. Parents have told BBC News NI about their serious concerns over school closures. Ann Marie O'Neill, whose 10-year-old son Eoin has a rare genetic condition, said he is being forgotten. Glenveagh School in Belfast, which Eoin attends, has said it will close on the eight strike days due to the "degree of staffing deficiency and associated risks". Ms O'Neill said the disruption will have a "massive impact" on Eoin, who is heavily reliant on routine. "Once again it's the children with special needs who are disproportionately impacted," she said. "The mainstream schools are, at most, impacted for a day but the children who are the most vulnerable are just not being seen and we feel like we're not being heard and that our children don't matter. "If this was impacting mainstream schools people would be shouting from the rooftops and it wouldn't be allowed to happen." Emma Morgan, from campaign group SEN Reform NI, said her she was aware of parents who "burst into tears" when they heard about the closures. "People are trying to keep jobs, manage other caring responsibilities," she added. "Many children with additional needs have significant behavioural problems as well so they can be taken out on the parents at home." With special schools particularly reliant on support staff, some have said they will be forced to close during the strikes. It has led to the EA asking the unions for exemptions for special school staff to come to work.
