Dann kann sie genau dies erreichen. DER HADESPLAN trifft eine politische Aussage zu einem sehr aktuellen Umweltthema. Er bietet am Schluss der Geschichte eine Lösung zur Vermeidung der finalen Katastrophe an, die im Moment noch Science-Fiction ist. All For Blue had the pleasure of attending the 12th TEDxAUEB of the Athens University of Economics and Business, which took place on Saturday, 27/04, at the Athens Conservatoire. Our team organized and presented a Workshop on the importance of the oceans and the modern dangers that threaten them. During the event, we tackled global challenges, including the perilous situation of marine species like sharks and the detrimental effects of single-use plastics on the aquatic ecosystem. We also explored the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 14 (Life below water). L'anidride carbonica (CO2) prodotta dalle attività umane è il principale fattore del riscaldamento globale. Per questa ragione l'Unione Europea guarda con interesse alle soluzioni in grado di ridurre le emissioni di CO2, primi responsabili del cambiamento climatico in atto. In questo senso la missione della startup lecchese Limenet è rivoluzionaria: trasformare l'anidride carbonica in una soluzione acquosa di bicarbonati di calcio, con potenziali effetti benefici per l'ecosistema marino. Per farlo ha messo a punto una tecnologia innovativa che permette lo stoccaggio del carbonio in forma di bicarbonati. Semplificando, questa tecnologia funziona così: da carbonato di calcio (presente in natura in grandissime quantità, si pensi che è il 7% della crosta terrestre), acqua marina ed energia rinnovabile, Limenet è in grado di trasformare l'anidride carbonica, raccolta dall'atmosfera o da altre sorgenti, in una soluzione acquosa di bicarbonati di calcio. In questo modo è possibile ottenere una soluzione di stoccaggio di CO2 duratura e stabile (per oltre 10 mila anni) all'interno di mare e oceani. Questo processo offre un duplice beneficio: da una parte, trasforma l'anidride carbonica in bicarbonati di calcio contrastando il cambiamento climatico, dall'altra, dissolvendo i composti carbonatici nell'acqua marina, ne aumenta l'alcalinità, cioè la capacità di resistere ai cambiamenti nei livelli di acidità, con potenziali benefici per l'ecosistema marino. Proprio ai Paesi in via di sviluppo ha dedicato parte del suo intervento introduttivo il "padrone di casa" Pichetto Fratin, indicando tra priorità la "cooperazione in particolare con l'Africa: costruire, secondo lo spirito del Piano Mattei, partenariati di tipo non predatorio, sostenendo i più vulnerabili nell'adattamento agli effetti del cambiamento climatico e favorendo quell'accesso all'energia pulita e sostenibile che oggi è negato al 43% degli abitanti del continente". Le giacche outdoor per bambini, comunemente acquistate nei negozi oppure negli store online, in molti casi possono contenere PFAS - un vasto gruppo di sostanze chimiche con diversi gradi di nocività per l'organismo umano - in percentuali superiori a quelle fissate dai parametri dell'Ue. Uno studio condotto da Bund, associazione tedesca per la protezione dell'ambiente e della natura, insieme ad altre 14 organizzazioni di protezione ambientale, infatti, ha rivelato che il 63% del campione di giacche selezionate contiene PFAS, acronimo di sostanze perfluoroalchiliche, molto diffuso nell'industria tessile, per rendere i capi di abbigliamento resistenti all'acqua, al grasso e alle macchie; ma queste stesse sostanze sono usate anche per imballaggi alimentari ed utensili da cucina antiaderenti, tra cui le pentole. In realtà, già negli anni Cinquanta, è iniziato il ricorso ai PFAS, ma con la diffusione globalizzata di capi di abbigliamento venduti a prezzi sempre più low-cost, l'utilizzo è divenuto massiccio, con conseguenze importanti a livello ambientale, proprio per la loro forte resistenza ai processi di degradazione naturale oltre alla tendenza ad accumularsi negli organismi viventi. E questo è il segnale più inquietante, ricollegandosi allo studio tedesco sulle giacche a vento destinati ai più giovani. Infatti, si legge sul sito del Ministero dell'Ambiente e della Sicurezza Energetica, che "l'accumulo dei PFAS nell'organismo umano ha effetti tossici e può essere correlato a patologie neonatali, diabete gestazionale e, in caso di esposizione cronica, formazione di tumori. Alcuni PFAS sono stati classificati anche come potenziali interferenti endocrini". I often feel like the whole world should take a patience pill. No big goals are achieved overnight. No real change happens through just one viral video. Not all things are ruined just because one thing failed. I've lately been thinking about the concept of being "A Lifer", something I read in a Georgetown University's article by Sadie Morris. It refers to the idea that many important changes and movements take several lifetimes to actualise. Things like equality, ecological sustainability and world peace require so many synchronous developments from so many groups that real change can take decades - or even centuries. However this doesn't make out actions insignificant, quite the contrary. We can be the catalysts for change in our time. Look at movements such as #metoo #blacklivesmatter and #fridaysforfuture. They've achieved meaningful change yet they were started by a small group of people. It's a real talent to aknowledge both our potential to create change and the realities of our limitations. Yet, I believe the ability to do this makes us more empowered and hopeful and helps us sustain our energy in the long run instead of burning out. Meaningful change is never a sprint. It's a marathon across challenging terrains. 🥴 Das Timing könnte kaum schlechter sein: Während das Karlsruher Urteil zum #Klimaschutzgesetz aus dem Jahr 2021 heute dritten „Geburtstag“ feiert, weicht die #Ampelkoalition gerade eben jenes Gesetz auf – so zumindest der Vorwurf vieler Akteur:innen. Zur Erinnerung: 2021 zogen Aktivist:innen von Fridays for Future Deutschland vor das #Bundesverfassungsgericht, um die Bundesregierung, damals bestehend aus CDU, CSU und SPD, wegen unzureichenden #Klimaschutz-Bemühungen zu verklagen. Das Gericht entschied zu Gunsten der Klagenden (und des Planeten 🌍), die Freude (auch bei uns) war riesig. Das Ergebnis: Ein deutlich verschärftes Klimaschutzgesetz. Und 2024? Da einigen sich die Ampel-Koalitionär:innen gerade auf das Ende der sektorscharfen #Klimaziele, was vor allem dem Gebäudebereich und Verkehr zugute kommt, die traditionellen #Klima-Sorgenkinder Deutschlands. 💔 Aber nicht alles an der Novelle ist kontraproduktiv, so begrüßen wir beispielsweise, dass der Prognosezeitraum, an dem der Erfolg der Maßnahmen gemessen wird, von 2030 auf 2040 erweitert wird – und mehr Voraussicht ist ja immer gut.
