When we pause, our brain shifts from the default mode network, often linked to mind-wandering and anxiety, to a state of heightened internal awareness and tranquility. Practical Ways to Practice Stillness: Scheduled Stillness: Set aside a specific time each day for stillness. It could be as brief as five minutes. The key is consistency. Use this time to sit quietly, away from distractions, and be present with your thoughts. Mindful Breathing: Focus on your breath. This technique anchors your attention and helps in quieting the mind. Observe the rhythm of your inhalation and exhalation without trying to change it. Nature Immersion: Spend time in nature. The natural environment induces a state of mindfulness and stillness. Itโ€™s finals season, and youโ€™re prepared this time around. You've heard a lot about self-care, but what's self rejuvenation? Self rejuvenation is a step beyond face masks and bubble baths. Self rejuvenation is a mindful revitalization practice to reset yourself from within rather than performing an action that gives temporary satisfaction. These steps are a part of every self-care checklist out there and youโ€™ve heard all this advice before, but hereโ€™s our personal self rejuvenation take on these common tips: 1. Sometimes we hold our breath without realizing it. We can cut off oxygen flow to our brain which can induce feelings of anxiety. There have been numerous systematic studies on the benefits of breath work. To re-center yourself, taking a minute to practice various breathing techniques. Follow a guided Youtube tutorial of your choice or ask a friend to breath with you. 2. Have a million things to do? Set a timer for 5 minutes and write out all of the things that need to get done. Break it down and select only 3 things from that list. Focus on those 3 things-- and ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ๐˜ญ๐˜บ those 3 things--today. 3. Take breaks! Rest those eyes, stretch out the muscles, and get some fresh air every hour. A regular physical reset will help with a mental refresh. If you need help focusing and timing out your breaks, I HIGHLY recommend the FocusPomo app. This app has helped me schedule out breaks every 25 minutes and it's helped me focus when I've struggled into getting into a flow. 4.
