As the wheel of the year turns towards the east it’s time for us to welcome back the return of the light at the spring equinox which this year falls tomorrow morning at 3.06 am in the UK. The wheel of the year is based on the sacred turning of the seasons and invites us to live slowly and seasonally. Celebrating the festivals on the wheel strengthens our connection with nature as we are guided by the transition of the sun throughout the seasons. The spring equinox welcomes the return of the light as we have a balance of day and night helping us to find balance with the darkness and the light both in the outer world and inner realm of our psyche. It’s the midpoint between the dark, reflective winter solstice and the peak of light at the summer solstice and falls between 20th-23rd March. Our classes and sister circle celebrate the equinox this week a potent time to pause and realign finding inner balance and harmony as we step out from the dark, inward focused energy of winter into the light and the promise of rebirth and renewal that spring begins. A sweet ritual is to rise at dawn tomorrow and leave an offering to the earth goddess in the form of milk or water and as you pour it on to the earth consider what you wish to bring into the light in terms of new visions and inspirations And if you want to immerse yourself in a spring equinox there’s still a space on my Easter retreat next week for three nights away. This photo was taken exactly a year ago on St Catherine’s hill near Winchester. My favourite place locally to gain perspective and remind me of the constant changes as the wheel of the year keeps turning. I got married on this hill two summers ago. Our final yoga practices this year will be honouring nature’s call to slow down as we approach the winter solstice. In a culture that doesn’t stop and tries to banish the darkness making time for reflection is a radical act. Paradoxically as nature calls us to slow down most are speeding up in the frantic countdown towards Christmas. Solstice literally translates as “the sun stands still” and this time is an invitation to press pause. The Nordic and Celtic people believed that the wheel of the year actually stopped turning a few days before the solstice. (natural world around us). So when the wheel reaches Winter solstice it has historically been seen as a sacred invitation to stop and reflect on the year that has been before tuning into the coming year. The purpose of honouring the winter solstice is to pause, take stock and do nothing as we accept the invitation to rest and review and process of all that we have done over the year. It’s really important to create and carve out space for nothing and winter solstice is the perfect time for this as we nurture and care for ourselves in a special way. By doing nothing we can ensure that when we do take action it isn’t coming from the ego - pushing and rushing from a place of fear and panic but from the stillness of our heart so that the dreams and visions we manifest during the year ahead are in alignment with spirit. In yogic philosophy this area relates to our ability to show love, compassion and forgiveness towards ourselves and others. Anatomically the area includes the physical organ of the heart as well as the surrounding muscles of the shoulders. Focusing here also involves the respiratory system and our ability to breathe into every moment and situation. Our recent practices have focused on our lower chakras - how we root, create and express ourselves in the more tangible world whereas the heart chakra is a bridge to the higher more spiritual realm of insight and spirituality - the heart is the intersection where heaven and earth meet.The heart chakra is the seat of our ability to love deeply as well as to receive love - one of many famous quotes from Rumi is "your task is not to seek for love but to merely seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it". Henry T Ford famously once said “whether you think you can or think you can’t - you’re probably right” which pretty much sums up our manipura chakra - the energy centre located in our solar plexus. The solar plexus chakra Manipura - when balanced is the centre of courage and confidence if there is an imbalance here then we may feel disempowered, lacking in confidence and willpower. When we work in this centre it can restore vitality, helping us to feel brighter and more secure. Our first chakra was all about feeling safe and rooted connecting to the earth element whereas the second chakra was about our creativity and how we express ourselves connecting to the water element. This third chakra is how we bring our creative ideas into being as we tap into the fire element. Fire transforms and when harnessed manipura energy is transformative as we burn away our disempowering limiting beliefs. The expressions “fire in my belly“ or “butterflies in my stomach” both relate to this area where we store anxiety. The colour of manipura chakra is bright yellow. Both of them had been enduring the torment of chronic migraines, but to my surprise, they no longer suffered from this debilitating condition. 🤷‍♀️ Curiosity piqued, I delved into their stories to uncover the secrets behind their newfound relief. Patient 1 experienced a life-altering divorce and a change in employment, which miraculously led to the disappearance of their migraines. 💔💼 On the other hand, Patient 2 bid farewell to dairy and soy, and like magic, their headaches vanished into thin air! 🥛🚫 Who would have thought that migraines could be so cunning? It appears that chronic pain can be triggered by both mental stress and the state of our gut health. 🌟The power of beliefs! 🌟 Recently, I had a patient who came to me convinced of a permanent intercostal inflammation condition. But as I dug deeper, I realised that the source of this belief was questionable. 🧐 Curiosity got the better of me, and I asked her about the cause of her ongoing inflammation. To my surprise, she couldn't provide an answer. Only that she had a "historic rib injury" and was told she had intercostal inflammation at the time. This got me thinking, if her rib injury had healed, what could be causing this inflammation? 🤔 As I delved deeper into her medical history and the language used in the past, it became clear why she still held onto this belief. But here's the plot twist! 👉🏻A recent scan revealed NO signs of inflammation. And guess what? As the days went by, her pain started to fade away!! 🤯🤯 She’d held on to this belief AND the discomfort for ALL THESE years .. 😲 This experience truly highlights the incredible power of beliefs! It's mind-boggling how our thoughts and beliefs can have such a profound impact on our well-being. 💭✨ So, let this be a reminder to all of us. We need to question and challenge the narratives we hold onto, as they can shape our experiences of pain and healing. It's time to unleash the power within us and embrace the possibility of healing from within. 🌱 Remember, our minds are powerful tools, and by questioning our beliefs, we can unlock a world of healing and growth. Picture this 👉🏻a patient walks into my office, hunched over on one side, afraid to straighten up because of the excruciating pain shooting through their shoulder. It's like they're auditioning for a role in a horror movie titled "The Hunchback of Shoulder Pain." ☝🏻But here's the thing - it's not just physical pain that's causing all this drama. It's also the nervous system going into full-on fight-or-flight mode, screaming at every movement to stop and stay safe. I mean, who can blame it? Nobody wants to experience that kind of agony. ✋As a bodyworker, my job becomes an interesting challenge. I have to find a way to create an environment where the patient feels safe enough for their body and mind to let go of chronic pain and fear. It's like trying to convince your friend that roller coasters are totally safe while they're clinging onto the nearest tree for dear life. 🪄But hey, with some patience and gentle persuasion (and maybe a few magic tricks), we can gradually coax their nervous system out of its protective shell. We'll show it that it doesn't have to be in constant fight-or-flight mode anymore. We'll teach it how to trust again, like a relationship counselor for the mind and body. 🧠So next time you see someone hunched over with shoulder pain, remember - it's not just physical discomfort they're dealing with; there's a whole psychological battle going on inside too. Ladies, Who feels overstretched and tired? Who know they need time to themselves to decompress, de-stress and put themselves first yet struggle to find the time? Who is worried that this will only be more of a challenge during the 6 weeks holidays? Well I’m here to help 👇🏼 The thing is exercise doesn’t have to be time consuming to be beneficial. In fact, it is said the greatest benefit comes from the first 60 minutes of exercise in your week. This doesn’t mean that exercising more than this isn’t beneficial, just that the first 60 minutes is key. If you’re short on time, this can be looked at as only 3 x 20 minute workouts a week. 20 minutes is less than 1.4% of your whole day. Don’t worry I know you sleep as well and even with 8 hours sleep, which is way more than most people average in our technology filled sleep deprived life, that’s still only 2% of your ‘awake’ hours. Knowing that your workout will take up such a small amount of time away from your children whilst making you feel better means NO MUM GUILT! The second huge cake of the pair, this one, the ‘blonde’ is a lemon sponge filled with zingy lemon curd and lemon buttercream, topped with marscapone cream and decorated with pistachio meringue kisses, dried lemon slices, English strawberries and rose petals. 🍋🍰🍓

The first of two huge cakes I was asked to make for a very special birthday party to be held in the secret garden @winchestercathedral A good example of my bespoke cake service, there were many elements to prepare: black cherry jam which I used to make black cherry buttercream, chocolate ganache, marscapone cream and meringue kisses as well as the elements for the second cake. The idea was that there would be a chocolate cake and a blonde cake which was lemon - Snow White & Rose Red - this, the latter decorated with meringue kisses, rose petals and fresh cherries. 🌹🍫🍒
