General Motors Production Date: July, 1943 Serial #: 571,396 Summary: The origins of the Carbines creation begin prior to the U.S. involvement in the Second World War. The Carbine was to serve as the main rifle for support and secondary troops such as Artillerymen, Truck drivers, Radiomen etc. as many complained that the M1 Garand was too heavy and cumbersome impeding mobility. Designed as a middle ground between the Garand and M1911, the M1 Carbine utilized the .30 Caliber Winchester cartridge. Weighing in at 5.2 lbs unloaded and 5.8 lbs loaded, the Carbine originally intended for support and rear echelon troops would eventually become beloved by front line servicemen and the rifle was inducted as a front line service weapon. The Carbine would begin production in July, 1942 until the wars end in 1945. A grand total of 6,121,309 would be produced for the duration of the conflict. If you were a young man in 1944, it would be very likely that your opponents would be equipped with these. •German K98k with Walther P38 •Japanese Type 99 with Nambu Type 14 The K98k and the Type 99 are each contended to be the best bolt action of the war. Both include hard hitting calibers, both feature a stripper clip fed 5 round box magazine. The K98k uses open sights, the Type 99 uses a peep sight. Both are lightweight around 8.5 lbs, and both kick pretty good. Both are sufficiently accurate as well. Perhaps the biggest difference aside from sights is the cocking mechanism. Yesterday I had the HONOR of sitting down with 98 year old William Crommett. He was originally from Long Island, NY, and joined the US Army in 1944. He went in to train at several different training centers all over the States, before shipping off to the Philippines and joining the 139th Army Airways Communication Sysytem Squadron. (139th AACS). Bill was in charge of setting up communication in B-29 Superfortresses and C-47 Skytrains among other planes. He would go on to Tokyo, Japan on Occupation Duty and set up communication for American planes coming into the Japanese homeland. God Bless you for your Service sir! Wer kennt die Serie " The Pacific"? Sie ist das Pendant zu der wohl bekannteren Serie " Band of Brothers" und spielt während des zweiten Weltkriegs eben dort, im Pazifik. Mich hat #thepacific damals tatsächlich sehr beschäftigt, da es um einen Teil der Weltgeschichte geht, die wir Europäer nicht so wirklich auf dem Schirm haben. Trude Teige hat mit " Als Großmutter im Regen tanzte" bereits meinen Geschmack getroffen und so war ich sehr gespannt auf ihr nächstes Buch. " Und Großvater atmete mit den Wellen" ist nun also das Pendant, welches im Pazifik spielt. Juni Bjerke, die die Geschichte ihrer Großmutter entdeckt bzw. aufgedeckt hat, erzählt diesesmal von ihrem Großvater Konrad. Der landet als norwegischer Seemann in japanischer Kriegsgefangenschaft auf der eigentlich traumhaften Insel Java. Die Insel war bis dato unter der Herrschaft der Niederlande, weshalb dort zu dem Zeitpunkt auch viele Europäer lebten. Die Japaner, die die Herrschaft über den asiatischen Raum anstrebten, sind ebenso brutal, wie die deutschen Offiziere im 2. WK. Und auch auf Java gibt es Lager. Überhaupt spiegelt alles die Situation wider, wie wir sie aus Europa kennen. Trude Teige erzählt hier chronologisch den Leidensweg von Konrad und seiner ersten großen Liebe, Sigrid, die ihn als Krankenschwester gesund gepflegt hatte. Man erfährt, wie mit den Europäern und Kriegsgegnern umgegangen wird. Unerbittlich und unmenschlich ist das Leben in den Lagern. Nur wer nicht krank wird hat eine Chance zu überleben. Ab und zu erleben Konrad und Sigrid auch Zuwendung und Menschlichkeit, etwa in den Rollen von Gentleman Jim und Magnhild. Schwester Magnhild möchte ich an dieser Stelle hervorheben. Ihr Charakter hat mich sehr gecatched, von ihr würde ich gerne noch mehr lesen. Im Großen und Ganzen ist dieses Buch weniger aufregend als sein Vorgänger. Eher leiser, für manchen Leser vielleicht auch mit Längen, aber am Ende wieder so emotional!!! Ich verstehe, warum Trude Teige diese Geschichte erzählen musste. Zum einen als Erinnerung an ein kaum erzähltes Stück Geschichte, zum anderen widmet sie dieses Buch ihrem Vater, dem Kriegshelden. ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️

Nele, o personagem Merriell “Snafu” Shelton, interpretado por Rami Malek, aparecia pela primeira vez. O episódio mostra o soldado Eugene B. Sledge, interpretado por Joe Mazzello, se juntando à Primeira e à Quinta Divisão dos Fuzileiros Navais. Um dos primeiros soldados que ele encontra ao chegar é Snafu. Neste episódio, Sledge participa de seu primeiro combate com Robert “Lucky” Leckie e outros fuzileiros durante a resistência japonesa na ilha de Peleliu. The Pacific, produzida por Steven Spielberg e Tom Hanks, foi baseada principalmente em dois livros de memórias, “With the Old Breed: At Peleliu and Okinawa” de Eugene B. Sledge, e “Helmet for My Pillow”, de Robert Leckie. Nuestra comunidad aprecia muchísimo al legendario director #StevenSpielberg y tiene entre sus favoritas a su ya clásico bélico "Rescatando al soldado Ryan" con #TomHanks como protagonista mostrando la participación de Estados Unidos en la segunda guerra mundial de forma muy realista y cruda. . . . Avevo una curiosità enorme per “Masters of the Air” la nuova serie prodotta da Apple TV è il duo Steven Spielberg/Tom Hanks che ha già raccontate storie simili ambientante nella seconda guerra mondiale. Mi riferisco ovviamente a due capolavori assoluti, Band Of Brothers e The Pacific. Quindi non potevo assolutamente non guardare questa nuova grandiosa e di altissimo livello che va a “completare” questa trilogia seriale. Visivamente a dir poco splendida, emozionante e struggente si ritrovane tutte quelle caratteristiche forti e reali che c’erano nelle altre due serie. Personaggi caratterizzati benissimo, attori super in parte, azione, musiche, montaggio assurdo. 9 episodi capaci di riempire gli occhi dei propri spettatori di meraviglia e innestare in loro un senso di paura e angosciante tensione. La resa visiva dell’intera opera è talmente perfetta da bucare lo schermo. Un nuovo piccolo ma grandioso capolavoro per un servizio streaming che è a dir poco incredibile.
