Yesterday's Trash Pickup Challenge at the Original Oyster House was a resounding success! 🌊 Can you guess how many buckets we filled in just one hour? We collected an incredible 85 buckets, which equals about 850 pounds of trash! 🌍 During Earth Week, we teamed up with #CleanCoasts and Green-Schools to encourage schools across Ireland to host cleanups as part of #SpringClean24. We're thrilled to see so many schools joining us in this important initiative! Happy Earth Day! I’ve been on a mission this month to pick up a piece of trash every day while Faye and I walk around the neighborhood. I am a firm believer that if each of the 333 million people in the US picked up one piece of trash, that equals 333 million pieces of trash! One thing can make a difference! Recently I was reading that if everyone in the country picked up 152 pieces of trash it would completely eliminate all the litter! Wow! So I decided today to bring a garbage bag and see just how much trash I could pick up on our normal route. 61 piece was my grand total today! It makes 152 pieces feel more doable when I got to 61 in less than an hour! But here’s the kicker, in a recent study from ecoparnersinc.com, 9 out of 10 pieces of litter are less than 4” long. Think about the little glint of shiny wrapper, the bottle caps, the pieces of something that was chopped up by a lawn mower, those all add up. And when those get missed, these are the smaller pieces making their way into the bellies of animals and birds and fish. So don’t pass up the trash! Keep collecting it and make sure it goes to the right place! Here’s some random stuff about Earth Day- Earth Day was first put into place on April 22, 1970 by Wisconsin senator Gaylord Nelson! Sen sijaan esim ruudeissa on luokkaa 1-5 p% ftalaatteja, usein vieläpä niitä ikävimpiä pienimolekyylisiä kuten DBP. Vapautuvat ympäristöön nopeasti. Ftalaatit vaikuttavat meidän hormonituotantoon. Niillä voi olla merkitystä lisääntymiseen ja lihomiseen (katso lisää THL). Myös ulltapikamuoti on usein käytännössä muovia ja sitä käyttämällä lisäämme ympäristön saastumista. МИМОЛЕТНАЯ КРАСОТА Представьте соотношение нашей жизни и какой-нибудь бабочки, которая живёт всего неделю. Взгрустнули? Такая красота, а такая мимолётная. Так вот с тем же сожалением смотрит на нас любая алюминиевая банка, брошенная на землю. Потому что она знает, что переживёт нас на 480 лет, а её подруга стеклянная бутылка, как минимум на 1000. Но это ещё полбеды то , что это самая банка увидит вместо нас, как выглядят наши пра пра пра правнуки. А проблема в том, что разлагаясь, она будет загрязнять землю и воду вокруг себя. Кстати, заметили, что я оптимист, так как в моем рассказе банка увидит наши следующие поколения. В принципе, я не думаю, что мы вымрем как динозавры, у нас достаточно неплохая система адаптации к изменяющейся окружающей среде. Просто когда мусор переполнит землю, человечество будет ходить по мусору, дышать мусором, пить мусор, есть мусор, смотреть на мусор. Поэтому будет чахленьким , не симпатичным и болезненным. Если у вас будет желание тоже самое прочитать научным языком, то погуглите «10 неожиданных мест, где нашли микропластик» Для большего эффекта, мне захотелось переформулировать притчу известного философа про сон. Получилась ценичная медитация для тех, кто все еще не может понять важность сортировки мусора. Прочитайте, а потом закройте глаза и проживите этот опыт, пустите в свой разум, пройдите весь цикл от рождения до смерти каждого образа. «Однажды мне приснилось, что я банка из-под Кока-Колы, во всех смыслах и целях. Вскоре я проснулся и снова стал собой. Теперь я не знал, был ли я тогда человеком, которому снилось, что я банка, или я теперь банка, и мне снилось, что я человек». Объясняю, для чего эта альтернативная современная медитация. Мы делаем то, что позволяет нам освободиться от будничного способа понимания мира. Это своего рода терапевтический скептицизм. Мы учимся видеть трансформацию вещей — как всё в итоге становится частью чего-то другого. Изучая окружающий мир, мы выходим за пределы своего ограниченного мышления и пробуждаем осознанное видение всех процессов во Вселенной. Вернемся на Кипр, здесь нет переработки мусора, только раздельный сбор, плохонький, но все же есть. Дальше выбор каждого.

I had my 🦺🚮KEITH COMMUNITY LITTER PICKERS (KCLP)🚮🦺 hat on and spent today out litterpicking in Keith. The litterpick was organised by the community champions at @chivasbrothersscotch as part of their SOS programme that allows 3 days of volunteering during work time per year. Our amazing cleaning team has been all over the city, and the numbers are in: ✅ We scooped up 2020 kg of PMD, 600 kg of wood, and 200 kg of plastic — talk about a haul! ✅ We tackled 300 kg of bulky items and a whopping 6.5 tons of general trash. ✅ Plus, we managed to recycle 130 kg of paper. 📄 ✅ And on top of it — at the Limassol Carnival, we collected nearly 5 tons of recycling materials! 🎭 We spent lots of time in some of your favorite spots like Kolonakiu, the Tourist area, Spirou Kiprianou, and Makariou. And yes, we finished a full sweep of Agia Fila—super clean now! Volunteers across Ireland are marking #NationalSpringClean's 25th birthday in different ways. For example, @enniscorthytidy decided to do something a little special to celebrate 25 years of An Taisce's NationalSpringClean. Collaborating with the excellent @know_howmediaagency they created a video to showcase the highlights of their clean-up that you can view by clicking the link in our bio! 30 volunteers joined the #SpringClean24 event, removing a total of 18 bags of litter. This year the group focused on circular economy and recycling, and in total, volunteers collected 1,077 items that were recycled, including 646 cans, 339 plastic bottles, 48 glass bottles, 34 vapes, 9 plastic cups and 1 battery.
