Lately I was wondering why the gentle little pink daisies are called Cosmos, and I connected that to the idea that so much of our growth as human beings takes place where no one sees — in darkness, underground so to speak. The horoscope app on my phone tells me that reality is not permanent. Day after day, I skim the flimsy guidance passing as divine providence, considering the evidence of my stars. Am I destined to always live in a shifting world of change? Is life simply an erratic series of greetings and farewells for which my heart is never prepared? And behind my eyes, the light in my dreams has dimmed. Shadows collect in my shallow awareness between here and where we go when we sleep. It is there I see every fear I keep. A radio clicks on in an abandoned car, playing "I'll be seeing you." I smell his cologne on the wind. A dark figure follows me into the hollow of my lungs and makes a home there. A red clock blinks in threes while I scream and bleed simultaneously. I reach for you and you're not there. I wake up. I reach for you and you're not there. And I startle awake. Reality flooding in with the sun through the tilted blinds I refuse to replace because they still let the light in. Just as you let the light in. And I reach for you. And thank God, you're there. for #NaPoWriMo day 30, i broke the rules (i think??) and used an @amykaypoetry prompt from day 18: what should be. inspired by: ‘there should be flowers’ by Joshua Jennifer Espinoza & ‘one last poem for richard’ by Sandra Cisneros — in this season, there should be participation badges for getting out of bed. there should be red ribbon cuttings at the beginning of the week, as if to say: i am beginning again, too. our fanciest candles should be burning; our good plates on the dinner table. so many of us leave ourselves in the winter— there should be mailed invitations, QR codes and RSVPs to celebrate returning back to our bodies. in this season, there should be time to unthaw. there should be softening. there should be no clear difference between where the river ends and we begin. until then, there are love letters from the universe in the form of sunsets and flowers and children learning their birthdays. until then, there is hope.

A very fitting title if I may say so myself. This is the last of the #amykaypoemaday24 prompts. Today we had to write a poetry about leaving. I have a tendency to write from a first person POV, so I am actively trying to change that by forcing other perspectives (much to the delight of my poetry tutor). The main reason for doing this is to avoid any overt sentimentality that might detract from the poem’s effect or power. What do you think? On a different note, this feels incredibly well timed because with this poem I finished my poetry journal. This is the fastest I have ever completed one. I started it Jan 5th of 2024, and now 183 pages later, it is finished. Onto the next one 🙂↕️

Extremely late for Day 26 @amykaypoetry #amykaypoemaday24 prompt ‘Three Lives’ after ‘If I Had Three Lives’ by Sarah Russell. Many of us writers yearn to be remembered for our words. This is just that desire to be freed from the clutches of the rat race and be reborn again (a whimsical desire to be larger than life) and to leave our legacy of words behind. I've used the Ouroborus symbol, which is the cycle of life, death, and rebirth. Poem 30/30 of @amykaypoetry’s #amykaypoemaday24. With NaPoWriMo concluding, today’s prompt feels fitting. To write about leaving. I didn’t need to look far for inspiration. As my photo albums are littered with photos of planes leaving from the airport to various destinations. It’s all part of an emotional cycle. It starts with confirmation of the booking. The excitement builds leading up to the date. Euphoria takes over on the day of departure from getting to the airport, to checking in for the flight and going through security. A sense of ease follows once the plane takes off. The clock starts ticking upon arrival. Time has a funny way of accelerating when In tourist mode. Finally, melancholy hits knowing that the trip home is near. After the tears and sadness subside, the memories remain. For all the times that I’ve been sad about travel ending, I’m reminded time and again that the next trip is always around the corner. Jedva čekam da se putovanje u Hrvatsku dogodi u listopadu! I can’t wait until the Croatia trip happens in October. But until then, that’s a wrap for Poem A Day and NaPoWriMo! I’m bummed to press share here, though.
