💜Stopping storm clouds from invading my mind💜 Having anxious thoughts almost on a daily basis is hard to cope with most days. There are a few coping tools that do help me that I would like to share with you here that might help you too. One of the things that I like to use is a fidget cube that has a lot of different clicks and buttons when my anxiety is really high because it helps me to focus on that rather than what is intruding on my mind. The second thing that I like to do is to write it down. It mostly comes out in poetic form. I like to take my time with it to match the right quote for it too. It's probably why it takes me so long to share one because of the lack of time I have with my busy mom/work life 😞. It's hard to balance it all out, but I'm surviving 🙏🏻. The last thing I like to do (and maybe the most important) is to take a few minutes to just breathe and take some time for yourself. You have to make sure your cup is full before you can help anyone else. I feel like the rest of my day goes a lot smoother since doing this because it allows me to reset and focus on what needs to be done now so I can focus on the other things later when I have time. All of these things can be helpful, but you got to do what works best for YOU! Remember you are right where you need to be 💚. My Heart Belongs To A Tenderoni, and She's The Lady Dujour Who Brings Me Joy/ Act 2; Written by Abdullah Hassan I handed her my cellphone and watched as she stepped to the side to make her call. She began speaking in a language that I believed to be Hindi, so I just went back to working on my piece for the time being. When she finished she thanked me then asked out of curiosity what I was writing. "Oh, I'm just working on a poem for this open mic performance I'll be doing next weekend" I replied. She gave me another gentle smile. "That sounds so cool!" I nodded, then proceeded to ask her what her name was. "My name is Rishma," she replied. We chatted for about thirty minutes or so, and within that small frame of time I learned that she was in the process of completing medical school and about to earn her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, in the field of Neurosurgery. Rishma was beyond advanced because she'd already done her four year premedical education at a local college and now she was about to finish up her last year in medical school and she was just in her late twenties. Right before she said fair well I politely asked her if we could possibly keep in touch and how I'd love it if she came out to my spoken word performance next weekend if she wasn't busy. "Sure, I would love to ," she eagerly said. Since her phone was already dead I just wrote mine down on a piece of paper, the old fashioned way how we use to do back in the early 90's. "You gonna call me, right?," I inquired. Rishma gave me a convincing look. "Of course I will, plus I want to see you hit the stage and perform your poetry" She went further to explain how much she actually appreciated poetry and that one of her favorite writers was an 11th century Kashmiri poet by the name of Kavi Bilhana. Id never heard of the guy at all but I was still impressed that she actually took a liking to the art form. BOOK NEWS!!!!! 📚📚 So, HERE IT IS. The news! I have written a book – a poetry collection – and it publishes in June! I had #longcovid in varying degrees of severity between 2020 and 2023. This is my way of giving back to all the amazing people – both friends and strangers (lots of them right here on Instagram) – who were a lifeline during that period. I hope the book raises visibility for Long Covid. There are still MILLIONS of people suffering, from LC and other chronic conditions too.
