After almost 7 hours of hiking, we finally arrived at Upper Grinnell Lake. The view.. what a prize. 🩵✨ Pictures don’t do any justice to this lake. It has mountains, glacial lakes, scenic drives, and amazing campgrounds! 🥾During our visit, we hiked the Grinnell Glacier Trail, Highline Trail (to the Loop), and Avalanche Lake. 🚗We drove the beautiful Going to the Sun Road through the park. ⛺We camped at Apgar Campground - just a short walk from McDonald Lake, Apgar Village (where we went out to dinner and got ice cream), and the Apgar Visitor Center (where we hopped onto the shuttle to travel deeper into the park). During our time in Glacier National Park, we went on a 10 hour hike and boy was it the HIKE OF MY LIFE. The Grinnell Glacier Trail saw us hiking through the woods, up mountainsides, high above lakes (the trail covers 4 lakes) and finally ending at Grinnell Glacier. The views were UNREAL. Along the way, we also encountered all kinds of wildlife like mountain goats, bighorn sheep and we even saw a grizzly bear!!! 🐻 I will never forget this hike, ever. #missgoobinusa 1. After a few hours, you get to Upper Grinnell Lake with views of Grinnell Glacier and up above, Salamander Glacier feeding the lake. From my Strava, I got 12.5 mi (out-and-back), 2,400ft of elevation, and 5 hours of walking. Grinnell glacier is one of the more popular ones to visit and with good reason, as it is one of the most spectacular hikes in the park! 🩵😍 It is a moderately difficult hike. 11 mile round trip with a 1700 ft elevation gain. 🥾☀️🌲 You’ll be rewarded with views of pristine glacial lakes and crystalline cascading waterfalls with stunning vistas of the surrounding peaks. 💦 At the trail’s end you’ll have a fantastic view of massive Grinnell Glacier and the milky turquoise Grinnell Lake, which is formed from the glacier’s melt. You’ll also see two smaller glaciers above Grinnell, Salamander and Gem. No dogs allowed and please always follow leave no trace principles. 1. Plan ahead and prepare 2. Taken from the Grinnell Glacier Overlook. The Grinnell Glacier was named after George Bird Grinnell, an explorer and conservationist who was key to the creation of Glacier National Park. It's a long difficult hike when taking the highline trail but so worth it. Anything from bears(have bearspray!), mountain goats, bighorn sheep etc. 🚘 Parking at logan pass gets full FAST. We're sharing our favorite long hikes this week! (over 7 miles) Today's hike: Grinnell Glacier in Glacier National Park (Montana) This might be my favorite hike! It has mountain views, beautiful blue lakes, waterfalls, and glaciers! We kicked off our visit to Glacier with a hike up to Grinnell Glacier. A really cool aspect of this trail is that you get to see Grinnell Lake from several different angles. There is the option to take shuttle boats across two lakes to shorten the hike, but we opted to walk alongside the lakes (adding about 2 miles each way). The total mileage for us was around 11 miles roundtrip with about 1,600 feet in elevation gain.
