I have a bone to pick with healthcare providers (I'm looking at you @iu_health) who are not making accommodations for disabilities like autism. I am so tired of showing up for appointments at offices that are not managed appropriately. Waiting for autistic children can be very difficult. Therefor, waiting for 30 to 90 minutes to see a nurse or a doctor is very challenging for our family. I'm tired of explaining to nurses that my child is autistic and has different needs and challenges when doing routine things at appointments. Two weeks ago, we thought Harrison broke his thumb. We had an appointment or place holder at an urgent care and still waited over 90 minutes to be seen. The doctor was lovely, but our experience was very frustrating. Healthcare providers should make accommodations for all disabilities if they want to build inclusive environments. They need to take into consideration the needs of individual patients. Just because it's not required by law or licensure rules, doesn't mean it shouldn't be happening. A 2016 tower addition at Indiana University Health's Riley Hospital in Indianapolis was designed with a large open structure to handle many daily visitors. This 10-color epoxy terrazzo floor has a vitrified finish for high gloss and ease of maintenance. People wonder why there is such distrust of the medical system by black people. This is Dr. Susan Moore, an African American physician who developed COVID. In this chilling and heartbreaking video before she died she speaks out about her mistreatment. Her last words were chilling. "I have to talk to somebody. Maybe the media." She was denied pain meds and additional doses of Remesedir. The doctor who cared for her was rude and wanted to send her home even though she required O2. The doc misread her chest x-ray as normal although she had lung lesions. She had to wait 4 hours for meds and the nurse argued with her. Her friends transferred her to another hospital because she didn't trust the care but unfortunately, it was too little, too late...she died. Her 19 yo son now has to care for his elderly grandparents who have dementia. If she had received proper & equitable treatment she would have at least had a chance to survive this. I am home and going to bed early. You all have seen my blue light display before, honoring the frontline workers during this global pandemic. I can’t begin to offer my amount of gratitude for everyone I came in contact with during my little crisis. Everyone I delt with from the initial 911 call, to the ambulance EMT’s, to the clerking staff at admissions to the 20 some nurses, doctors, techs, orderlies and other people that came to my bedside to make sure I was being taken care of first and foremost in the ER, to the staff and doctors that took care of me during my admission overnight to the hospital, to the paperwork release staff at Methodist Hospital in Indy... you are angels and amazingly held together people during this unprecedented time. Welke energie neem jij mee de ruimte in? Onlangs kwam ik deze post tegen van @iu_health Deze melding zou eigenlijk standaard bij een ingang van een Nicu moeten staan. Dan is de toon meteen gezet ten gunste van alle kwetsbare ‘open’ kindjes die op afdeling liggen. Maar dat is weer een stof voor een andere post 😉 Maargoed los daarvan is dit precies de reden waarom ik bepaalde keuzes maak omtrent Xavi’s extra zorg. Gisteren ben ik bewust niet met Xavi mee de behandelkamer ingegaan, omdat de vorige poli-afspraak nog op mijn netvlies gebrand stond (bloedprikken veranderde in een bloedbad van een uur). Gisteren kon ik met mijn samengeknepen- billen-energie niet positief bijdragen aan de huidige situatie. Gelukkig stond vader gisteren heel anders qua energie in zijn schoenen, waardoor de situatie voor Xavi niet gekleurd werd door mijn aanwezigheid. Hoe lastig ik het dan ook vind om hem op dat moment niet te kunnen geven wat hij nodig heeft, hoe fantastisch mooi, gezellig en liefdevol ZIJN (ziekenhuis) ervaring werd. Op deze wijze werd er weer een extra positief bouwsteentje gelegd in zijn moment.
