🥦 Understanding Vitamins: Fat Soluble vs. Water Soluble 🥦 Ever wonder why some vitamins need fat to be absorbed while others dissolve in water? Let’s break it down: 🔍 Fat Soluble Vitamins: Examples: Vitamins A, D, E, K How they work: These vitamins dissolve in fat and are stored in your body’s fatty tissues and liver. They’re absorbed along with dietary fats and require bile for absorption. Storage: Since they’re stored in the body, excess fat-soluble vitamins can accumulate and potentially lead to toxicity if consumed in large amounts over time. 💧 Water Soluble Vitamins: Examples: Vitamin C, B vitamins (e.g., B1, B2, B3, B6, B12) How they work: Water-soluble vitamins dissolve in water and are absorbed directly into the bloodstream. They’re not stored in the body to the same extent as fat-soluble vitamins, so they need to be replenished regularly through diet. Excretion: Any excess water-soluble vitamins are usually excreted in urine, so they’re less likely to build up to toxic levels. In summary, fat-soluble vitamins need fat for absorption and are stored in the body, while water-soluble vitamins dissolve in water and are not stored, requiring regular intake. Remember to include a variety of foods rich in both types of vitamins for optimal health and vitality! 💪🥕 #VitaminFacts #Nutrition101 #HealthyHabits #conquerfitness

Vitamin A is a fat soluble vitamin 🥕 This means they are primarily found in foods containing fat. Vitamin A also includes beta carotenes such as carrots which are converted to vitamin A in the body Being fat soluble means that the body absorbs it better when you eat it with fats, hence why both pumpkin and sweet potato are better sources of vitamin A when baked with oil It has loads of functions in the body like 👇👇👇 •Important in vision - ever wondered why mum use to tell you to eat your carrots? 😏 •Essential for normal growth •Maintains epithelial tissue (think the tissue that your skin is made up of or the linings of your internal organs) •Normal bone development •It’s an antioxidant •and a bunch of other important roles The recommended dietary intake (RDI) is: Men >19: 900 micrograms/day Women >19: 700 micrograms/day #studentdietitian #dieteticsstudent #dietitian #nutritionstudent #studentnutritionist #nutritionist #dietetics #nutritioneducation #vitamineducation #vitaminaeducation #nutritionfacts #nutritiontips #vitaminfacts #vitamintips #vitaminafacts #vitaminatips #vitamina #vitaminafood #vitaminafoods #vitaminasources #vitaminsources

Could multivitamins lead your health astray? While the nutritional boost once seemed like a no-brainer, multivitamins have been at the center of controversy over the years, leaving many people questioning their health value. Our dietitians break down the buzz! 👇 What does the science say? In most cases, vitamins appear to have a neutral effect. One study shows no increase or decrease in risk of death from cancer or cardiovascular disease among people who took multivitamins. There have even been cases where vitamin and mineral supplements proved to be more harmful than helpful, such as beta-carotene supplementation actually increasing lung cancer risks in men who smoke! And some vitamins may also interfere with certain medications and medical treatments. Key takeaways: 💸 A daily vitamin is not harmful as long as doses are within the recommended range, but they don't provide much benefit. 🥕 Most people can get everything they need from food by eating a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean and/or plant-based proteins, along with some healthy fats. 👩‍⚕️ Always consult with a physician before starting a new supplement. #TheBuzz #VitaminFacts #NutritionMyth #DietitianAdvice #SupplementSafety #EatRealFood

🍊Whole Food Vitamin C vs. Synthetic: A Simplified Explanation You might be hearing a lot about whole food vitamin C being superior to its synthetic counterpart. Let's break it down: 🩺The Claim: Whole food vitamin C is fundamentally different and better than synthetic ascorbic acid. It comes with essential "co-factors" like minerals and enzymes that help us absorb it better. 💡The Reality: Chemically, they're identical. Both contain ascorbic acid, the essential part of vitamin C. 🫨What about those "co-factors"? While whole foods do contain other nutrients, evidence suggests they don't significantly boost vitamin C absorption. Some mentioned "co-factors" have low absorption rates themselves or act differently in the body. 🤔Absorption and Benefits: Synthetic vitamin C is actually well-absorbed, 70-90% at usual doses. Its benefits, like acting as an antioxidant and enzyme cofactor, come from the ascorbic acid itself, not any special "co-factors" in whole foods. 🧐So, why choose whole food vitamin C? It might be a good option if you want additional nutrients along with vitamin C. Some prefer non-GMO or organic sources, which are available for both whole food and synthetic. 🙌The Bottom Line: If you need more than 200-400mg of vitamin C daily (rare for most people), whole food sources might not be enough. For most, either whole food or synthetic vitamin C with sufficient dosage will do the trick. Choose non-GMO options if that's a concern. #health #wellness #nutrition #healthylifestyle #healthychoices #vitamins #vitaminc #ascorbicacid #citrus #fruitsandveggies #antioxidant #immunity #immuneboost #collagen #antiaging #supplements #healthyliving #sciencebased #debunkingmyths #factsnotfads #vitaminfacts #mythbusters #orangeaddict #nomorefads #supplementsmart #smartsnacks #budgetfriendly #informedchoices #nonGMO #organic #sciencebased
