A Fate Inked In Blood by Danielle L. Jensen ~ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was a great read but missing just a little bit of the wow factor needed for it to be an incredible read. Vikings, female rage, a strong FMC, a swoon-worthy MMC, betrayal, some surprising turns, amazing tension, and great banter can be found in the pages of this book. As the reader, you can't help but feel for Freya, our FMC who is unfated and blessed by the gods; but who is also controlled and manipulated by those [men] who seek to use her power. She is a strong female lead but sometimes acts brashly because of her distrust of everyone around her. Bjorn, our male lead, is a swoon-worthy will-burn-the-world-for-her Viking warrior. The romantic tension that ensues is fantastic. I did find that the plot was just a little bit too predictable. The use of the word "arse" bothered me (it was so frequent), and I was also a little disappointed with the fast-paced, cliffhanger ending. This fits the bill for romantasy and is much heavier on the romance side and a little bit less developed on the fantasy side. I love the Norse Mythology and viking influence. Sometimes the hardcover is better than the dust jacket. "The Unfinished Tales" is J.R.R. Tolkien's stories of the creation and history of Middle Earth which includes many of the stories found in the Silmarillion. It was edited by Tolkien's son Christopher and published in 1980. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I’m always sucker for a pretty book and a grumpy/angsty MMC. 😉 How stunning is this @fairyloot Special Edition of A Fragile Enchantment? Seriously, I can’t get over how pretty and whimsical it is!😍 Honestly, based on the mixed reviews, I went in with fairly low expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised! I ended up enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would. It had Bridgerton vibes, but with a bit of magic woven in. As someone who used to almost exclusively read Regency romance, but now reads mainly romantasy, I appreciated that this fantasy of manners book was a fun merging of two of my favorite genres. It also features some of my favorite tropes (see list below)! I was surprised that this book was able to touch on several heavier topics (classism, xenophobia, homophobia, alcohol abuse & recovery) while still remaining a fairly easy/light read overall. It is a standalone novel so the world-building and magic system weren’t super in-depth. That said, I thought they were thorough enough for the purpose of the story. 🤷♀️ The book features a sappy happy ending that will leave you with warm-fuzzies. I will say that I do wish all of the characters’ problems felt a bit more resolved by the end of the story, but that was my only minor complaint worth mentioning. Overall, it’s an enjoyable read! QOTD: Are you a coffee or tea drinker? I recently finished A Tempest of Tea by @hafsahfaizal ☕️ which is Six of Crows with Vampires. If you love heists, motley crews, found family and blood suckers, then this book is for you. It was beautifully written and gave me all the gritty feels of peaky blinders in a fantasy world. Arthie remind me of Kazz and i adored the concept of the tea house. The whole book centres around these criminals in a 1920’s style London who live double lives and need to save the home they’ve built. It’s got heists, secrets, romance and beautifully written characters. I had the softest spot for Jin and I loved how everything unravelled. Where it didn’t quite reach five stars for me was some of the terms used or the wording. I had to read some sentences over as I lost who they were referring to or who was speaking but it was minimal. Otherwise, this was such a great read and it’s made me now place a library hold on the authors previous series as I realised this is in the same universe as her Hunt the Flame duology. Book 39- Pretty Rings and Broken Things by Kat Singleton ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5? I think. This was a shallow, quick, fun read. I’m basing my stars off vibes and nothing else. Also, I’m finally able to fill in ‘P’ on my alphabet challenge! 📖 Winnie finds herself amidst a “scandal” and has to enter into an arranged marriage with her families rival. ⭐️Arranged marriage, “my wife”, billionaire, good tension and spice. ☹️ The “scandal” made me roll my eyes a bit. She had no choice but to get married based on that and it was just a really weak reason. 📖 BOOK REVIEW 📖 “The Woman At Number 6” by Matthew Farrell ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ 💫 📚I had such a great time participating in the @BookSparks book tour, and if you haven’t seen my unboxing video, check it out guys. It was so fun reading the book and looking for the clues in the picture above - I was able to find most of them 😀 In this book, Malcolm comes under police’s scrutiny after his wife Tracy goes missing and his mistress is found dead, both on the same day. 💭 I could not put this book down! It’s one of those stay-up-late-at-night reads where every minute you’re away from the book, you’re thinking about it. As I started reading, the biggest question on my mind was, what is Malcolm hiding? He and the doctor were my main suspects. I also loved the idea of two separate investigations coming to a crossing point and propelling the case to solution. The side story of Tracy’s disappearance gave me major Mysery by Stephen King vibes. It was dark and propulsive, but left me with some questions, such as why did Tracy’s sister hide the fact that Tracy called for help when every minute was crucial and they were, supposedly, “in it” together? I also had a somewhat hard time with Tracy’s captor’s identity. That twist was a little stretch for me. I would have liked to see doctor’s POV in this book as well. ⚖️ All in all, this was an original and a very entertaining thriller. Despite some loose ends, this book kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. 🪻Queen Charlotte by Julia Quinn & Shonda Rhimes🪻 Dare I say, the show is better than the book🫢If you're looking to get back into the Bridgerton mood ahead of season 3 next month, I would recommend a rewatch of the previous seasons and connected shows instead of the books. When deciding to read the book of the prequel show, keep in mind that it will sacrifice the flashes to present Bridgerton timeline in favor of staying the past and just focusing on the young Charlotte and George with their burgeoning relationship and young Lady Danbury. While reading you to get the addition of minute details and insides to conversations not really given the time in the show. But there is nothing of the Bridgertons or the characters of the show in the book. The book is also unmemorable. The romance is better shown than read. It felt too insta-lovey with very little to explain the connection between Charlotte and George. I've been rewatching the show after reading the book, and seeing it acted out is superior. Whether that's the magic of the actors or Queen Shonda or both, it's much more emotional to watch than read here. And Lady Agatha Danbury is still the best part of both the book and the show but I do love the show more. Her fierceness and vulnerability is handled perfectly in the book but there is nothing like seeing it in action both from her younger self and the Lady Danbury we know and love from Bridgerton. And I truly love the friendship we see in the show with her and Violet Bridgerton in the "present timeline". "We are untold stories" is such a beautiful line in her monologue to Violet about the older women still having lives to live after they have lived their past. And from what i've seen in the teasers for Bridgerton season 3, we might just get to see those new stories start and I am so happy that it's being explored. Shakespeare sonnet 10/10 Shakespeares sonnets, er nok noget af det smukkeste jeg har læst til dato. Jeg har læst dem alle igennem, flere gange nu. Men jeg er på ingen måde færdig, tror dette vil være et livslangs eventyr. Shakespeares sonnets har skudt mig i en hel anden læseretning end jeg forventet. Jeg skal lære the bard at kende, fordi hvis du ikke læser Shakespeare hvad læser duuu så forrr og alligevel har jeg alligevel læst Shakespeare helt implicit. Da hans sjæl lever videre i mere eller alt litteratur. Men det er ikke nok bare at læse hans sonnets, hvis man virkelig ville forstå og sætte pris på ordene. Skal man interagere med dem på en utrolig dyb og personlig plan. Når du læser hans sonnets vil der være nogen som fanger din interesse, du ved måske ikke præcis hvorfor digtet snakker til dig, men der et eller andet ved det. Når du oplever det, så ber jeg dig om at lære digtet at kende. Læs det, men læs det højt. Det er ligemeget om det virker lidt fjollet. Stille og rolig vil du begynde at fange mere og mere. Efter du har lært digtet at kende, rimene, ordenes betydning, rytmen osv. Kan du overveje hvorvidt at du skal lære det udenad. Denne process er jeg personligt i gang og ja det er en anelse udfordrende. Men hvis du lær digtet så vil det være dit, du ville kunne vende tilbage til det i de mørkeste nætter, i livets største øjeblikke og det vil stille og roligt blive en integreret del af din identitet. Det er vigtigt at pointerer at man kan gøre det samme for alle digter og i virkelighed for al litteratur. Men jeg kan garanterer dig for at hvis du beslutter dig for at læse Shakespeares sonnets vil der som minimum være et par som snakker til dig! Maus: 10/10 Hvis du havde fortalt mig at en af de mest rørende bøger jeg vil læse i 2023 havde været en tegneserie havde jeg nok ikke troede på dig. Så da jeg begyndte at læse maus, troede jeg allerede jeg havde læst den på forhånd. Når man har hørt den samme historie gang på gang, så mister den desværre sin effekt. Det oplever jeg til en vis grad er tilfældet for holocaust narrativet. Overexposure har fået en så vigtigt fortælling til at blive en anelse kliché. Så jeg var blown away da jeg læste MAUS😮💨 jeg fik senere mulighed for at dukke ned i denne hypotese da jeg skulle skrive eksamen. Maus er ikke bare en fortælling om Holocaust, der er meget til den. Bogen indeholder faktisk 3 historier 1. Fortællingen om vladeks oplevelser under Holocaust 2. Fortællingen om hvordan de oplevelser har påvirket og formet vladek og generationerne. Derudover er det fortællingen om forfatteren og hans fars forhold. Det her giver i sig selv et helt andet perspektiv på Holocaust, at man ser hvilke nutidige konsekvenser deres oplevelser har senere i livet men også hvordan det påvirker deres børn. Alt det her er egentligt meget fint, men der hvor MAUS virkelig skinner igennem er i det tredje lag, nemlig meta narrativet. Den inddrager læseren i selve skriveprocessen og hermed takler nogle af de problemer som associeres med at skrive en Holocaust fortælling? Primært det faktum at han tjener penge på sine forældres værste mareridt, hvordan kan man nogensinde være det bekendt?? Men det inddrager også lidt dig i den her debat? Fordi er du ikke som læser også medansvarlig? Du har jo købt bogen og hermed ja idk. Aarghh det blev pludselig langt.
